I live in Richmond, VA and felt it a little while ago. I was weirded out more then anything because my first thought was is that an earthquake... not this strong in VA. Then after I thought about it I was like oh i'm on the 5th floor maybe thats why it feels so bad, nope it really was almost a 6. The tv wobbled but overall nothing to freak out about, I didn't even leave my apartment till 10 minutes after it stopped shaking then walked outside to see half my apartment outside. Like oh... we where supposed to evacuate.

The epicenter is near louisa where my friends are and one is working at a daycare full of kids... god help her, hopefully they have plenty of juice boxes.

Still hearing more fire trucks and safety vehicles in richmond btw, more then usual.

My friend is in DC right now, and when the quake hit he told his friends '5.9? That's nothing!' and they looked at him like he was crazy. I am from Christchurch where we had a 7.1 and a shallow 6.3 that killed about 250 people.

Apparently it was here in Gettysburg, PA, but I was on a Football turf field and didn't feel it.

They're based in North Carolina. Raleigh, I believe.
Slashdot's front page made it out to be fairly minor in Raleigh.

Actually, their offices are based in Durham, North Carolina, IIRC. Still, that was close enough for their servers to be affected.

On topic...
I'm not in DC now, but DC is my hometown, and I'm totally surprised. In all my years living in DC, never thought there'd be an earthquake this strong. Tornadoes, hurricanes, cicadas, sure! But an earthquake? Wow...

I'm from Charleston, WV and although I didn't feel anything, our mailman said he felt it and a few things got knocked down. I realize that its not a big deal to many that deal with earthquakes a lot but around these parts its pretty rare so there is a lot to talk about.

I actually live in Louisa county [where it was centered.] and it wasn't that bad. Granted I had never been in an earthquake before. My house shook pretty hard but nothing fell.

Seems like my whole family felt it aside from the one's living outside the US. The most damaged it caused here was a shampoo bottle fell off the shelf and into the tub. Gotta get a lot of insurance money for that hefty damage

I'm in London, ON and was just sitting there playing games when the couch swayed back and forth. What we felt was very minor I'm sure, but kinda interesting that we felt it here, like 350 miles away.

Overreacting much? 5.9 is nothing guys . I know you have no earthquakes in that zone but this is so silly . People scared , telling other people where they were when it happened like it was some kind of a disaster . Only way someone could have died would have been from a panic attack or something .
What he said. This has been nothing but a sad display of overreaction and fear mongering from the media. CNN actually broke off contact with the goddamn raid on Gadhafi's compound to report on this non-event. These are common and NOTHING HAPPENED!
