I'm a little concerned by the whole "timing" thing. What, exactly, do they mean by "timing"? I hope it's not the frantic "hit-the-button-at-the-exact-right-nanosecond" timing like games such as Clive Barker's Jericho and Dante's Inferno. That type of thing is almost impossible for me and frustrating to the point of not being even remotely fun (I gave up on Jericho at the opening sequence after more than 100 failed attempts to get the guy past the pit). I REALLY hope Skyrim isn't going that route or I'll have to count myself out of this one.

Just hope they don't cut away the open lock spells. They really saved me on many a Dark Brotherhood quest. Anyway, it sounds cool. I like how they dare changing the old system for a more challenging one. Even if I'm quite sure I will ragequit a few times before I get it. One of my complains with Oblivion was that all the destruction magic seemed samey in effect and appearance, but Skyrim seems to take a hold of this and I do like.

So preordering this game.

I hadn't really thought about improvements to the combat system that much. I always did want something a little more than just the slashing, like location damage (similar to VATS, only without the game-pausing). But this looks like something that I honestly would give my right lung to play (luckily, I don't have to).

Brutal and frenzied melee combat? Hell that sounds awesome. Now if my Nord can grow a damn beard in this game I'll be happy. I figure I'll make a Beowulf esq character for this game, the setting sounds perfect for it.

I really don't know what I'm going to do until this game comes out....thank god Dragon Age 2 is out in about a month, or I just might go insane.

Yay for better stealth system. I hated how they always knew where I was when they couldn't see me.

And it just keep getting better and better!

Dear Bethesda,

Your game seems to be more awesome than god himself, do you take cheques in advance? Because I might as well give you my money right now! Definitely getting this game!

Tom Goldman said:
Bethesda head Todd Howard told Game Informer that Skyrim adds a "brutality" to the Elder Scrolls melee combat system that makes it feel more dangerous. Striking and defending must be properly timed, as holding down the block button in Skyrim will make the player perform a bash move that knocks opponents off balance. Players can also lose their footing when striking at the wrong time or blocking improperly, which will leave you exposed. Backpedaling won't suffice as a replacement for timing, as the speed of moving backwards has been greatly decreased. Bethesda added special kill animations, staggering effects, and camera shake to make everything feel more hectic.
So pretty much the system Oblivion had.

I mean, if you blocked you could disarm them with the right skill with a "bash".

If you hit them when they blocked you lost your footing and couldn't move back.

The only difference I see is the kill animations and the timed blocking, which I did anyway. PAH.

Hopefully they make it better than in oblivion. Mabye it was just me, but I didn't like how on the preset dificuly your sword swings were like the gentle brushes of springs first winds on the face of a new born babe. (Cookie for refrence)

This is as good as its going to be bad.. Alot of people used to Oblivion's fighting style are going to find it difficult to adjust, thinking they're going to be playing it like Oblivion. But it'll also be highly interesting. As an avid Oblivion player I kind of like the sounds of this myself.
Especially as the bow and arrow stuff sounds like my cup of tea, and sneaking xD

On the one hand, this sounds really, really nice.

On the other hand, Bethesda has an ugly tendency to improve things at the expense of other areas in their games. If we got a game with this depth of combat and a strong story, setting, and set of characters (and not just five well-developed characters along the main quest - side quests and flavor NPCs too), I would be really happy. That said, I'm not really holding my breath. I would rather have a small, polished and compelling world and crappy combat than some underdeveloped huge expanse with great combat. Bethesda games are at their best when they put a lot of focus into making the characters, plot, and setting unique and interesting, not when they try to make the fights cool.

Why does it seem that every time something gets released about this game my pants get a little damper? . . Oh that's right, because they DO.

I kid (or not)

Will having full athletics and acrobatics and jumping at an enemy with full Blade still be an instant kill with insane amounts of strength? (just how i like to play, with god mode on and my strength in the caps)
And add back spears, they kicked ass!
And Crossbows, and make it so that not every material type fits for every single weapon type, I dont want a dwemer katana along with my daedric katana (and all 5 of each other weapons)
And broadswords, sabers, slowfall, jump, divine intervention and everything else you skimped out that was awesome from morrowind!

...I've been playing morrowind alot.

Sounds like it could be interesting...if they do it right... it sounds like that system might be hard to implement properly. It will probably be overpowered or just broken.

Still, whats with the captchas are they really necessary? I have never seen spam on this site before.
