Hopefully this is a sign that people are getting sick of EA's terrible business practices.

Maybe EA'll have a change of heart and not act like twats anymore, but I doubt it.
Come on, Daystar. What is this, a Disney movie?

At any rate, I'd say I'm happy but honestly, I doubt EA is gonna realize the reason why they've lost so much money. I also doubt they'll care. Being the dicks that they are, some poor saps will get fired and they'll keep doing what they're doing. And we'll keep buying their games anyway.

Yes! Thousands of people have their jobs at risk! That's what they get for working for a company I don't like! They deserve to lose their job!

Am I doing this right?

EA's not going the way of THQ.
One can hope though... One can only hope.

It probably wont happen, yeah... but it's nice to think it will.
And put a bunch of talented people out of bisness?
better to put them out of business than to have them work for EA.

If EA falls, it won't just evaporate, everyone will be scrambling to pick up the pieces.

I'd rather EA learn from their mistakes.

And, seriously, it's hard finding jobs in this economy. I'm one of them trying to find work in the game industry, but the competition is SWAMPED with qualified people all vying for the same few open positions. It's a nightmare situation I wouldn't wish on anyone, let alone people working at studios under EA. I hope they keep their jobs. I hope they HIRE for more jobs. I want to work for EA if it means I find employment in this medium.

Ramen noodles quickly lose their flavor.

Shit marketing or shit economy. YOU DECIDED.

I wonder will this end up with more cutting the good stuff and edges off already round sphere or trying to make something new and innovative that doesn't make customer a criminal everytime he buys their product.

Also ORIGIN is still illegal as platform in Finland, they got a warning from CRB already and still haven't changed the contract to comply with Finnish law! After 2 years!

So I wonder does practices like these continue elsewhere. And if they do - no fucking wonder they are falling down the drain pipe in a maelstrom is so strong it would suck the universe with it.

Oh, the economy is definitely stronger (trust me, i do reports on economy for work), its just that your games havent gotten any better, and finally people are actually stopping and thinking: hey, if we got game x that is great, and then game y that is great from same company, why are we still buying this EA crap?

Then again, EAs slogan is challenge everything, and lately they seem to be challenging us and common sense a lot, so i guess they do stay true to thier nature.

Maybe they should stop hiring people to stick their fingers in their employees ears... you know... kill two birds with one stone

I find it hard to believe that anyone at EA thought that Warfighter was going sell a reasonable number of units.

I hate how people rush to be gleeful at the sight of EA floundering. Many people, including a close member of my family, make their livings working for EA. They feed their families and pay the mortgage working for EA. They get up every morning and put in a full day's hard work working for EA.

Don't like EA's games? Don't buy them, no-one has a gun to your head forcing you. Just be mature enough to have cast the vote with your wallet, and refrain from smugly declaring 'wel its cos their dicks arnt they LOL'.

You make the strike against EA by not buying the games, and maybe that will cause a change in their practices. Gloating over what will probably result in a load of layoffs? That's just cold.

You can absolutely go bugger yourself.

It isn't the fucking market's responsibility to feel sorry for all the poor wittle drones that might get the boot when a fucking awful company that does fucking awful things gets the financial lashing it so rightly deserves

I hear this fucking non-argument every god damned time there's news about a company losing money, and it never ceases to piss me off.

Yes, we get it, you've found a way that you can feel smug and morally superior to everyone else, that's really nice, now please shut your fucking gob.
All right. As long as you stop acting smug and superior to EA, saying they deserve to go out of business completely because they make games you don't like.

You mean for the same quarter that the US economy shrunk slightly? Because the quarter that EA is reporting for wasn't a great economy.

Also I think people need to put some things in perspective. Video games are a luxury product, they're one of the first things to go when belts need tightening. Especially the AAA releases that EA thrives on.

I'll talk loudly so you can hear me from your high horse.

1. It's nobody's 'responsibility' to feel sorry for others. It's called empathy, and when we see people who might lose their jobs, it's a valid response to say 'that sucks'. Get the hell over yourself calling hard working people drones, and place the blame where it actually lies - with the people who make the decisions. If someone who makes absurd decisions and pisses people off loses their job, then that would be justified. But that never happens.

2. It's not a non-argument, it's just one you don't like and disagree with. It's perfectly valid to say 'this is bad news for this reason'.

3. Again, empathy. We have it. It seems like a conspicuous snipe from you about moral superiority, as there was no mention of that from our side - seems to me that someone's aware he's being spiteful, and is lashing out at us 'smug' people.

Wallet ? Dude, be resonable. Half of these whiners are voting by "MOM, CAN I HAVE THIS ??", or are sitting in theirs parents basement, unemployed pretending to be cool on the net.

I simply don't believe any true adult would speak such nonsense like 'hating EA'. Seriosly. You hate them because they've bought some studios only to close them ? Well, welcome to the real world kids, it's called "takeover" and it's been around... like forever. Nobody forced previous owners to sell, so take your rage to them. What ? You think i.e. Bioware was lacking funds before EA era? Or just owners got greedy and sold the company to have a new lambo or two ? Whose fault is that ? EA's for buying ? Seriously guys, Game industry is INDUSTRY, deal with it. You don't like what EA produces - don't buy from them. End of story. I don't like Starbucks coffee, but I don't go and rant about it every time I see the damn thing.

so US is the only place where EA sell games?
Games are also a cheap entertainment option. People tightening belts may rather buy a 60 dollar game than go on a 600 dollar vacation if money becomes scarce. Videogames have the highest hour/dollar rate of all entertainment and as such it is the cheap mans luxury item of choice. drop in luxury consumption does not always mean drop in videogame consumption.

For someone who supposedly studies the economy you sure don't seem to know that much about it. You also didn't answer my points so do that. Hint: the US is a quarter of the global economy.

Games are also sold predominately to the under 35 population, namely the people who have been having an absolutely terrible time in the current situation.

Seriously, how do you loose that much money!? Most people won't see that much cash in their lives, and EA managed to piss it into the wind.
