Goodness me, but there is some large amount of BS in this thread, all fun joking aside. What those gamers did was very stupid, almost as stupid as the thugs who were on record there. Sure, you could have speculated in that situation that there wasn't a knife or handgun in the thugs possession and called their bluff since they were already using violence at fist level anyways, so if they had the better threat it would be plain they would have used that to demonstrate their willingness to make good on their threats of violence for their intimidation checks. Ugh, I do not want to read another statistic because a out of shape gamer thought they would be a hero and got knifed or shot, so either in the hospital or in the morgue.

If any of you are serious about your nerd rage potential, even a minor bit of PT and martial arts will hugely improve your chances, simply by better being able to objectively assess a situation rather than just relying on your adrenaline to put yourself in a bad to worse situation. Stay safe, please, and bum rush the guys as a group from multiple angles next time with a take down and arm isolations and grab some blunt weapons for reach and shielding. Use that gaming mind to your advantage, adrenaline isn't enough.

As the story proves, the attitude about some people being born losers is all a sham. One guy against two, later three, and he was fearless. I highly doubt it was about the DS.

Instead I think it was about the disrespect. I think everyone in the room hesitated not because of fear, but because of unwillingness to be violent. Our types just prefer better emotions - to be better people - than that. But force us to the act, and you find that we are just as capable as anyone else - possibly more so, as we aren't in it for a mere power trip. Once past the crossroads, we're in it to win, and that puts us a level above those who are committing violence just for the feeling of power it gives them.

With that in mind, allow me to say - there are no "nerds" or "geeks". There are only people. Some are able to find rewards in purely mental activities, some in mixing mental and physical efforts, some in purely physical activities.

And some find their rewards in abusing others. In some way, they feel lame or weak, and they to hide it from others or deny it to themselves by using some advantage - physical, social, whatever - to put others down. It's the only way they can feel good about themselves.

And the more people they can get to sign onto their bigotry (I'm looking at you, Hollywood and TV), the more successful they feel.

No one here is a second class citizen because you can play video games or make computers work. So let's not use words like "geeks" or "nerds". Adopting the agenda of people who can't feel like winners unless they're portraying others - us - as losers is not how to win equality.
