I felt the same way, at times. With the 'nonexistent' prequel triology, I always wondered what was so bad about the Separatists.

Yes I often do root for the bad guys. One example is in game called Gears of War. I root for the "Bad Guys" because there only defending there planet from who? Humans of course. There is no way around it that Humans are the bad guys. Wait, does that mean I am rooting for the good guys?

I would just adopt the Joker of the last dark knight movie if it's okay with you people (yeah I know the actor is dead R.I.P., but we're talking about the role of the bad guy).

And probably for agent Smith (in matrix 2) when Neo still didn't get the "Mr. Anderson..." clue when Trinity was captured by him and asked agent Smith a few times who he was.

I frequently root for the bad guy. The best example in my mind was in Avatar, when I actually thoroughly disliked all of the heroes.

Ever seen the movie Wall Street? They're all bad guys, and yet, gotta love them all.

Frequently. I hate how the good guy is usually portrayed as some lawful good voice of reason sort of thing. Plus the bad guys always look so cooool.

You know it'll never happen in a Hollywood film, but still. There are some villains who should get their own films.

Oh, and I wanted the villain in Saw (the police, duh) to win, just to finally put an end to this stupid series.

Very often esspecially when the bad guy is more interesting than the hero.

Appart from in Death Note I was completely confused about who to root for!

Now that you mention it, I don't really get that either. If we disregard the prequel trilogy, we just have the word of a few characters to go on that the empire is evil. Ok, they murder a bunch of ewoks in the last movie, but I really can't blame them for that...
Seriously, where the hell are the firing squads, slave labor, death camps, gestapo-esque secret police, and massive amounts of propaganda? A sorry excuse for an evil empire indeed...

OT: I usually do. I mean not when the bad guys are just mindless killers (although I always root for the monsters in those movies), or idiots, but I do on all other occasions...

Personally, I just watched the film Orphan for the second time and it centers around a young girl who turns out to be a psychotic murderer (don't worry, I'm not spoiling anything big) and I just thought the whole time "I really want her to get away with this" mainly because the enitire family she was trying to kill were a bunch of idiots.
Hey, Max was alright because she was the strong silent type...sort of.

I agree that I wanted her to succeed until I found out her secret, then everything became a little weird and she had to lose.

OT: I found that in the Sergio Leone "Man with no name" trilogy I found myself cheering for the bad guy, mainly because there isn't really a good guy.

I absolutely adored the entire Books of Magic miniseries... except for Tim Hunter.

I was always rooting for Mr E to strand him at the end of time. (Though it's kind of debatable that Mr E is a villain. Just depends on your point of view.)

The demon from paranormal activity. Please kill these idiots.

Actually, this is a perfect chance to introduce what I like to call Harman's Law. 99% of the characters in horror movies are "stupid white people": people who inevitably go into the house, try to hide the body, go off by themselves with the serial killer around, or open the box containing the unspeakable evil. .99% are black people who always die because horror movie villains are racists. The other .01% of horror movie characters who make all of the right decisions but still get screwed in the end. I call those characters "tragic heroes"

In the interest of science, I am offering internet cookies to anybody who can give an example of a horror movie with no "stupid white people" moments.

I do quite often if the good guy(s) annoy me enough. Usually the bad guy is more cunning so I'm like "Oh but you put so much work into that plan, you deserve the win".

Clyde of Law Abiding Citizen.

The Empire in Star Wars. (Come on, the rebels were freaking pathetic)

Avatar, the humans. Fuck the blue smurfs, and fuck Sully. It was all just escapism for him, even though he was getting his legs back through the military if he actually did his damned job.

Voldemort in Harry Potter. Seriously, Harry is that "Holier-than-thou" kid whom inherited all his capabilities from his parents (really, "love" saved him? Talk about cliche!) and the scar he got from Voldemort, and flaunts himself around like nothing. I was angry when he got Golden Fire slammed into his face in the end of the Seventh Book, damnit!

Have you ever been watching a movie, reading a book or playing a game and found yourself hoping the villain succeeds? Be it due to you agreeing with the morals of the villain or just that the protaginists are complete dicks or douchebags, have you ever just wanted the bad guy to get away with it all?

Personally, I just watched the film Orphan for the second time and it centers around a young girl who turns out to be a psychotic murderer (don't worry, I'm not spoiling anything big) and I just thought the whole time "I really want her to get away with this" mainly because the enitire family she was trying to kill were a bunch of idiots.

So, Escapist, am I the only one who sometimes roots for the bad guy?
Read some marvel comics, I don't know if I necessarily root for the villains always but I'm definitely not against them and would often be in the exact same shoes. I also remember watching X-men evolution (Basically all X-men characters as teenagers, which is a bit bullshitty but I still enjoyed the series) [semi-spoiler incoming] and when Apocalypse was introduced and instead of wanting to destroy everything as is his usual apparent purpose, he simply wanted to convert every living human into mutants... though many would die. And I couldn't help but turn to my brother and say "well that's not really THAT bad, is it?" cause no matter how immoral taking the sacrifice of peoples lives may seem, I still couldn't see it as evil.[spoiler ends]

Also in the recent Alice in Wonderland movie, I simply hated that benevalant ignorant *****... Made me so damn angry.

Um... you realize the Locusts are the ones invading the humans' planet, right?

Anyway, probably Sho Minamimoto from The World Ends With You. Not because I don't like the protagonists or anything like that, he's just too awesome to not like...

During Gundam, I always kinda sided more with some of Char's opinions more than any of the 'good' sides (Earth Federation, and so on). His biggest mistake was when he finally lost patience in Counter Attack, and tried to force the changes he wanted. But I can understand his why of seeing it, and that's what I always liked about him.

Plus, no one has as much charisma as him. lol
