The controllers look cool, but I don't know why you'd sacrifice them for a keyboard and mouse. It's just like having a Wii mote + Nunchuck, and speaking as someone who owns a wii, and at many times has played CoD games on the Wii, there's nothing special about it, especially with CoD when it is really hard to control.

Either I'm paying the same for less for someone is paying the same for more.
What part about them paying a $100 for the game the rest of us will pay $40 for is paying the same?
Probably less too, considering it will likely be on Steam for five bucks, come Christmas.

What?

People who don't buy a special controller aren't as important as people who do?

This new content takes dev time from the rest of the game, but I still pay for it and can't get it unless a buy some new piece of shit?

Am I the only one who see's something wrong with this?

Surely that new content should be DLC.. developed after the original game, so that the money that 'I' pay pays for what 'I' get, and not for some extra free content to be given to someone else.
Erm, not exactly. See, if you brought portal 2 and enjoyed it without knowing that some people have an extra few levels, it wouldn't matter.

You only care because "I could have more, but I don't". It doesn't matter, you're just being greedy.

It's like complaining when you get the console version that you should've paid less, cuz the folks on PC got modding capabilities as extra. You don't pay for development time, that's ridiculous. Duke Nukem Forever isn't going to retail at £200.

It's content designed to show off the motion-control's stuff... it's probably not meant for keyboard use anyways, so you wouldn't use it even if it came in the normal package.

And really, it's not much different from a "deluxe" package, but at least the gimmicky included piece has some use.

Motion controllers are a fad and aimed only at casual noobs....

OMG! Valve has motion control gimmicks for Portal 2! DO WANT!

No, but it will need more sales to break even, due to cost of time spent in development.

See how that works?

Looks at least like a well thought-out system - a pair of analogue controls with buttons that you don't have to move your hands to press - it's already better than both standard console gamepads, imo (as neither of those have all the buttons beneath your fingers).

The aiming of the right part to aim in game is interesting, but presumably it's the same as a joystick in interpretation - turn faster the larger the angle - with all the limitations on accuracy that that entails. If it's not, and it's a turn-by-factor-of-degrees then I'd ask 'how do you turn all the way around?', but it would be more intuitive for aiming.

Dipping motion seemed to lack response and detection on that version - see where he tries to crouch and it takes a couple of goes, and again as he stands, overshoots and jumps - no so great or fluid.

Sony should be taking notes though - that looks to be the way to implement the Move into a mainstream, 'hardcore' shooter.

This looks pretty much exactly like wiimote controlled fps on pc, i actually played through episode 2 and some other fps's this way. Somewhat harder to control but refreshing.

Shape of this thing seems much better for controlling fps's and em field instead of ir camera might be better, otherwise it was done years ago with wiimote.

I am so sick of motion controls. I jumped on the Wii bandwagon on launch day, dreaming of revolutionized gaming and the best FPS's the world has ever seen. It was really cool for a few months and then the novelty started to wear off. The limitations of motion controls started making themselves painfully clear. To be frank, they fucking suck, and I'm fucking sick of them. They ruined otherwise good games. Developers keep trying to use them and end up creating awkward, bastardized versions of their own games.

Motion controls were a worthwhile experiment. The wii ultimately failed. We don't need every fucking platform to try their hand at a fundamentally flawed idea. Kinect is fantastic, awesome, technology being totally squandered under the guise of being a game controller. Move is exactly the fucking same as the wii making it totally pointless. This thing is pretty much just like the wii as well. Stop it. We don't need or want this shit. It ruins everything. It's why we can't have nice things.

The fact that Valve would make exclusive content demanding the use of this thing is frustrating. Time they could've used to build another level that everyone would get to see is squandered on people who pick up another fucking wii rip off. Not cool Valve, not cool.

On wiimote it was like joystick for normal games without special modification. Accuracy was enough for single player on about one difficulty level below mouse for me.
There was intresting mod for hl2 wich had sort of hybryd systed - wiimote acted like aiming cursor wich started to turn screen at some distance from center of screen.

well, i seems to be able to compete agains a mouse in a fps game...

im interested in this
It looks accurate, I just think it is a little slow. I am sure, a slow paced but accuracy requiring game like Call of Duty (yes, i really just said that) it would work in. But something like the Unreal Tournament games, the lack of an effective turning radius might have some problems. Looks promising though.

Given the accuracy and the response time (they had it down to 40ms last time I checked, they said they would work on getting it lower) of the controls they really do interest me.

I need to get Goldeneye on the Wii and see how that system works - I believe it uses the last one you mentioned - aiming around the centre, with the edges for turning. Not heard good things about it though...

Wait, you can use Wiimotes on the PC?!

I have to say that that controller actually looks plausible for a lot of shooters.

I have one question though, what if you quickly need to turn 180 degrees? They never showed that in the video.

I've had nothing but a blast with Goldeneye on Wii. An excellent revisioning of the title, the storyline rewritten and all around better than the original, well designed levels, and the controls were excellent. It wasn't perfect, but the best FPS experience I've had on a console in a very long time. I even enjoyed the online multiplayer battles, performing very well with the Wiimote.

For being a motion control they sure aren't moving this thing very much.

Hell, mouses require more movement than this thing does.

I still refuse to believe that this will improve upon my mouse.
If this is the reason Portal 2 got delayed I will be super pissed.

Very good then, I guess I'll have to get it! Is there four player split screen? Know if it takes gamecube controllers?
