Somebody tell the Escapist editors they accidentally left off page 3, where Yahtzee talks lovingly and in great depth about Saints Row The Third.

Cutscene-heavy Skyrim trailer? The one I watched, entitled "gameplay trailer" featured mainly gameplay, Yahtzee.

You can crow about Halo if you like, but no one EVER said Halo was ending. Bungie never said it, Microsoft never said it, no one ever said that Reach was the LAST HALO. They said it was BUNGIE'S LAST HALO. Note the difference. The studio taking over was established and running long before Reach's release.

Right now you're the loudest rooster who's crowing shit that EVERYONE ALREADY KNEW-A-DOODLE-DOO. Might want to dial back the cockey a notch. Wait... forgot who I was talking to.

Never mind. :p
Three words dude. Finish the Fight. Reach didn't say it was the last Halo, Halo 3 did - they only got by it by making prequels and interquels.
Which means that the Chief gets to start another fight! and he can just keep fighting!:p

But being serious here, "Finish the Fight" referred to handing the Covenant their asses', and now that that's done, you have to deal with the "Legendary Planet". 343i's franchise director Frank O'Connor had already heavily indicated that they wanted to follow up with Master Chief's story, which I presume will end in either his epic death (fat chance) or a triumphant return to human civilization with the crew of the UNSC Spirit of Fire from Halo Wars and the humans that got trapped inside the shield world of Onyx in "Ghosts of Onyx". For the grand prize, it would end in his epic death while simultaneously insuring the safe return of the aforementioned people.

And just so you know, I am trying to be wary about this, and hope that they actually make this a worthwhile cash-in continuation, rather than a shitty cash-in continuation. If it sucks nuggets, I and likely many others will declare that it does not actually exist.

Have to agree with Yahtzee on every point, especially Assassin's Creed: Revelation. I was hoping that we'd get to play someone new this round, maybe even Desmond, but no, it's another game with Etzio (and supposedly Altair). Feeling a bit strung along now. Even AC:B had the Brotherhood component. This just has ziplines and some new bombs. Waiting on the Used bin for this one, or an Amazon Deal of the Day at the least.

Halo 3 did finish the fight that had been going on. The Flood were defeated and the Covenant War was ended. Going forward it's a new fight and from what I've gathered on Halo fansites, it's one we (Halo fans) are eager to experience. The next chapter of Master Chief's story was even teased at the end of Halo 3 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yygn_vlH5a4].

It was well publicized that 343 Industries were taking up the Halo mantle from Bungie post Reach. So Yahtzee crowing about it is silly and naive. If he (or anyone) honestly expects that MS would walk away from a franchise game that sells millions of copies, they aren't paying much attention to the way the world works.

And then there was my original point that no one ever said Reach was the final Halo, only that it was Bungie's final Halo. Gamers SAY they want originality, but if each sequel didn't sell better than the last these games would not get made, plain and simple. It's one thing to lament this fact as a critic, it's another to crow triumphantly at something that anyone paying even a little bit of attention was already well aware of.

Wow, I didn't really mean to ramble on this long. Sorry about that. Guess I'm in "overly-verbose" mode. :p

"what I've always liked about it is the way it encourages sneaky stealthy thoughtful approaches to quick surgical strikes before slipping off into the crowd. So when the trailer depicts Ezio having a big old crazy scrap with like a hundred guys, my fingers grope for my temples."

AC was only about stealth in the first one. The other two are about Rambo with a sword, and the dev team seems to think its a good direction.

OH GOD IS THIS THE EMOTION YOU CALL JOY????
Whoa, Yahtzee! What happened to your pledge of pessimism? Although it does seem interesting.

Skyrim. Mass Effect 3. Rage, possibly.

After the StarCraft 2 expansions, the 'games I'm looking forward to (and are coming)' list is empty.

Halo 3 did finish the fight... the war against the Covenant. If Halo 4's tagline isn't "Start Another Fight" I'll be really disappointed.

See the red text in the lower right corner? It says Serious Sam 3.

All the devs did was improve combat so it was possible to actually defend yourself. You can hack guards up with a sword if you like, but that's the player's choice. AC gives you a lot of freedom in that respect.

Ooooh, I see.

And here I was hoping that it was a monster for Skyrim I hadn't yet heard of.

This was surprisingly positive and realistic (I know Yahtzee turns up the snark for his reviews, but still after reading David Wong's fifth "THE INDUSTRY IS DOOOOOOOMED" article, you kinda get used to the doomsayers), but I think we're kind of ignoring one of the main issues: this sequel hunger is our fault as consumers. I'm not placing myself above this, but how many people reading this REALLY take chances and buy something new and different when the safe and known is also staring them in the face. There's a reason games like Call of Duty or even Legend of Zelda games sell so well: they're familiar to us. We as consumers don't make it worth the developers' time to take chances on new IPs with new gameplay hooks. Building an all-new engine from the ground up is not only time consuming, it costs tons of money and the results are often not very high-quality in their first few outings. There aren't any simple solutions, and this isn't JUST a videogame industry problem (basically every single entertainment industry is being swamped by remakes and sequels (yes, even literature). There's no escaping it: safe sells.

Wait a minute... You prefer a silent protagonist?? What about Issac from Dead Space... I thought I recall you detesting having a mute character player.

I mean Serious Sam isn't mute... Well he expresses his badassery at particular times in the game, mostly during the first level in the first encounter and in those "so called" hidden telephone booths.

Me personally. I prefer a talkative MC, who is willing to show us he has a character and emotions. The best example I can give is The Darkness (on of my all time favs). You had first person combat and third person communication with other characters. Also really loved his narration and explanation during the cutscenes and loading screens.

Wait Yahtzee is feeling a positive emotion! Quick, see if Ludo and the Anti-Yahtzee have finally gotten married. Oh and get your ice skates and all that.
I literally bust out laughing when i read this part.
Always good to make obscure references.

Besides, this coming from David Jaffe, David "Twisted Metal, Twisted Metal 2, Twisted Metal Black, Twisted Metal Head On: Extra Twisted Edition and Twisted Metal Again" Jaffe, smacks a little of a five-year-old faecal artist trying to blame his older sister for not tattling on him fast enough.
Jaffe has released all of those games over the course of what, 15 years?
That's to say nothing of the fact that the genre of his titles is pretty damn niche'. It'd be like blaming From Software for releasing all of their Armored Core games; they only do it because they are the only ones in their business who care at all, and if they didn't that genre wouldn't even exist.

Apart from that, there wasn't really anything at E3 that kept my attention besides the WiiU (and not for good reasons either) including anything on Yahtzee's little list there.
Well, ok, except for Skyrim. I haven't seen this much undeserved hype and praise for a title we know fuck-all about besides "It has dragons." and "It's mainly for consoles".
