I have to agree here. Yahtzee needs to stop shitting on games simply because he didnt like them, or in this case, shitting on games that haven't even been released yet because he doesn't like the series. I felt like he was just basing his paragraphs on the series as a whole, rather than just the trailers, yeah okay, compare, that's fine, but don't base your entire opinion on related influences.

I mean Serious Sam isn't mute... Well he expresses his badassery at particular times in the game, mostly during the first level in the first encounter and in those "so called" hidden telephone booths.

Me personally. I prefer a talkative MC, who is willing to show us he has a character and emotions. The best example I can give is The Darkness (on of my all time favs). You had first person combat and third person communication with other characters. Also really loved his narration and explanation during the cutscenes and loading screens.

Seriously though, it works differently in different games, like DN wouldn't be the same without his bad ass voice acting, hell the only reason I sat and watched my friend play that game was to hear more funny one-liners.

I think he meant, if it's not a loveable or particularly cool player character, make them silent.

I'm excited for Sonic Generations! Not only is there going to be close to classic physics like Sonic 1, 2 and 3&K unlike 4 where Dimps were lazy fucks and used Sonic Rush physics AND Dimps is doing the same thing for the 3DS version of Generations. There is new renditions of classic levels, updated music, and a bunch of cool stuff. There is no way this game can be bad. It's basically going to be the second good Sonic game in a row following Sonic Colors.

I agree with yhatzee's view on serious sam 3, however he seem to have forgotten a important game: the new sly cooper game, which is probably going to be awesome.

A silent protagonist is a bit annoying, but its also annoying when they speak nonsensical crap.
A Protag with a decent passive dialogue and active dialogue would be the best in my opinion.

To answer this question before it is asked, Passive Dialogue is the things your character says when just moving about or in response to something in the environment(like in point and click adventure games where the character says this is x or x looks funny or what have you verbal flavor text basically). Look at bastion for the best example of what I mean, granted that's external narration and not the character speaking but the idea is the same.

I for one would love to hear the thoughts of these game characters as they encounter obstacles, enemies or just weird crap strew about the scenery, for example the bloody handwriting on the walls and floors in the medical wing of Rapture; the first time I saw that stuff it was very disconcerting all the violent imagery and the sense that the person who wrote/did this is truly insane and is lurking about in the shadows and crannies of this slowly self destructing tin can under the ocean and I need to find this nutjob before I can GTFO.

If the Character expressed similar concerns it would have been a more immersive experience

I am pretty shure he will shit over ss3 if it sucks when it comes out. Thing is, he nealy pissed his pants because yhatze really enjoys oldschool shooters where you don't have to hide like a panzy, and can carry a ton of guns, the experience which duke nukem failed to deliver, and whit that tagline it just seems like the people making the serious sam game really gets what the target audience wants.

Killing everyone shouldn't be rewarded, it should be the other way around! And no map? I used to sit for 10 mins studying the map and peoples walking paths before making a move.

also tomb raider seams to go in a interesting direction. just hope they will not make fighting like hell as a survival skill.
at least in some news i read that you have to look for food and water. go hunting etc. i really hope this will be true.

Yahtzee's comment on Skyrim makes me doubt if he's qualified to comment on the other stuff. He basically admitted to seeing the one trailer they released months ago. Either it's lazy writing or he just hasn't bothered to see the G4 game play demonstration, or the 7 minute long game play video posted a while ago.

I'm willing to bet $100 that Halo 4-6 is gonna suck. (What it means to "suck" is completely subjective) Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim have my preorder.

The actual footage at E3 was pretty fucking cool, actually. Just walking amongst the herd of mammoths and giants was enough to bring the world to life for me, and the game's not out for months.

I could be wrong, but the new footage looks pretty fucking incredible, and a good deal better than Oblivion was.

No mention of the new Hitman? I thought that was one of your favorite games, Yahtzee. I also think that Skyrim will be epic, the gameplay footage I've seen looked amazing. And I agree with the comments about Mass Effect 3, I was really hoping they would ditch Shepard for ME2 and they ended up keeping him/her for the third installment! Bioware has built up a whole galaxy of races, cultures, cities, and characters and we are still seeing just this one dude the whole time.
