Its time Fallout left the U.S and based it somewhere else instead
YOu do realize that the entire feel and purpose of Fallout revolves around the fact that the setting is 50's era cold war paranoia. It simply would not work in any other country.
The cold war and the 50s only happened in the U.S ?
Cold War participants US v USSR; On the sidelines are the rest of the world. Everyone was crapping bricks over it and taking sides (sort of), but the main participants were the US & the USSR.

Another factor to the Fallout Universe is that nobody knows what the world outside the states is like. It would be a huge change to the series to be set elsewhere, but I feel that the games' setting is starting to get a bit stale in the USA.
yes, other nations were all on the sidelines. nations like Germany, Greece, Korea, China, Cuba and Vietnam hardly had anything to do with the cold war at all....
Seriously, look up sattelite states and say that again.

OT: whil i agree it might be difficult to retain the fallout feel somewhere else in the world, i'd like to see some more actual postapocalyptic civilisations. new vegas had the legion but they were just'the evil faction'. it'd be great if they introduced some factions with more interesting conflicts than evil slavers/fascists vs. NCR/brotherhood

Oh come on, this is just pedantry.

The title would be less succinct if it had to be "Fallout 4/5, the one after New Vegas we mean".

Everyone understands what is meant by Fallout 4 I think - the next instalment in the series.

I think either way I will be picking it up - New Vegas left a good impression on me.

Well, I just bought the GOTY Edition of Fallout 3, so I'll see how I feel after I play it. Then I'll see whether or not I will be looking forward to FO4.

That would be so if game numbering worked that way in the games industry.

Look at other series, GTA, Resident Evil, and Halo, just to name a few.

A game that comes after a numbered game and doesn't have a number in it's name, isn't counted in the numbering when the next game comes out that the company decides to give a number.

No one wants a new Fallout, they are just wasting time to make the wait for the next Elder Scrolls painfully long.

Let's just hope that Bethesda has no part in making it. For a good change to a year, let's hope their Bethesda has no part in any of their other successful franchises. All of their projects and resources should get outsourced to development teams with talent, coupled with a publishing group with a genuine love for games. Ahaha what am I saying, there's no way that would ever happen.

It wouldn't matter either way, because the majority of gamers, namely their target audience are so low-maintenance that they wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Sad, but true.

what the hell do you have with bethesda they have alot of talent skyrim is a huge hand made game world you need alot of talent to make something this big by hand
and about the "wehhhh its full of bugs argument" its impossible to make a game this big and have no bugs.
but if you want a linear bottom smacking sight seeing tour with no bugs your looking in the wrong place

oh and about zenimax they are actually some of the best publishers around
why?
because 1 they are a private company so they can do as they wish and when
after bethesda had nearly gone bankrupt after redguard and battlespire
who saved the day?
zeni max and after that when todd howard the leader of a games company that had been losing money hand over fist and had been making retarded business decisions
came to them and said he needed enough money to fund a 100 person dev team to make a game over the span of 3 years for a franchise many taught was dead zenimax somehow agreed

and when morrowind was done todd howard said he wanted even more money to make an even bigger game and take 4 years to make it they agreed again.
instead of forcing it into yearly releases.

and id software themselves trusted zenimax enough to AGREE to be acquired by them

It's being made by Bethesda, so I don't expect any awesome characters, incredibly gray factions, awesome quests... Just a wide open world and nice graphics.

i want a new fallout and just so you know the improved rpg elements from skyrim were made possible by the lessons learned from fallout so if fallout improves the elder scrolls improves
the lessons from one improve the other.

Well, since they have mentioned this about Chicago: "Some time after the defeat of the Master in 2162, the Brotherhood of Steel constructed airships and dispatched some of its soldiers East, to track down and assess the extent of the remaining super mutant threat. However, a great storm broke the main airship and flung it far from its course.
The mighty airship was badly damaged. The meteorological disturbances were so intense that sections of the craft were wrenched free of the ship and lost, leading to casualties among those onboard. Even the leaders of the expedition were not spared, with many of them being lost, including Paladin Latham. The survivors managed to keep their battered ship aloft, but eventually they came down on the ruined city's outskirts. Those who made it clear of the wreck eventually formed an organization called the Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel, which diverged greatly from the ideals of the original Brotherhood of Steel. In time, they established a harsh rule over the towns and villages near Chicago, controlled from the Bunker Alpha. The sky over the city is always dark and stormy, and the city seems to be completely deserted. However, there are suggestions that the Enclave maintains an outpost within the ruins."
Yep, Chicagos next I would like to say.

They should set it in Texas, We have a 9-1 gun to person ratio, Mountains, Deserts, Forests, Rivers, Cows, Cowboys, and a bunch of football stadiums that could be converted into Gladiator arenas.

That's the backstory to Fallout: Tactics, which was a real-time squad-based combat game released some time after Fallout 2. Fans still occasionally wage minor wars over its status in the canon of the series.

Fallout 4 is being made by Bethesda sadly :( Okay well I still trust that they'll make an amazing game, its just i liked New Vegas more than 3.
Still, hopefully they've taken a few pointers from Obsidian, and with the Creation engine the game should look and play much better.

I actually dont know what I expect in the next one, I mean most of the big threats to the wasteland have been dealt with, The Enclave is utterly destroyed, Im assuming the NCR winning at Hoover Dam is going to be the canon ending so no Caesars Legion. It would have to be out east again im assuming due to the NCR having dominated the Midwest. Of course they could always do a game set when the NCR is finally collapsing due to over extending its reach, and breaking down into warring city states. I could see that being very interesting
now I could be wrong, but I thought they said it was being made by Bethesda SOFTWORKS, the publisher, not game studios, so it stoll could be made by Obsidian

Yes the cold war was predominantly US and USSR but let's not forget that Fallout has an alternate universe in which I'm pretty sure other countries would've got involved. Making a less 'stale' Fallout game should be easy enough while being canon at the same time.

Actually, there is still very much a Caesar's Legion. It controls all of Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico. So any eastward expansion is going to be very difficult indeed.

Being a Texan, I'd love to know how my state is doing in the apocalypse. Maybe set the game around the Gulf Coast, or close to the former US-Mexico boarder.

With the Skyrim engine, I have high hopes for a Fallout 4.

Though, I also secretly hope they'll have J.E Sawyer and Chris Avvelone do the writing.

Like many others, I hope for sweet mounts. Maybe a deathclaw. Or a yao guai. Or an eyebot. Or an imported model of Joshua Graham.

Mentioned in a conversation in Fallout 3 by Scribe Jameson and Scribe Rothchild about fighting super mutants.
Mentioned in Fallout: New Vegas on a recording found on ED-E during the quest "ED-E My Love", hinting at an Enclave outpost located there.
Mentioned in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Lonesome Road, when the copy of ED-E is telling the Courier about Whitley and his journey to Navarro, to which the Courier will reply, "What's a Chicago?"." So yeah, this is all I know.

It will definitely remain in America, I imagine.

[As many other people have said before, what makes the Fallout series stand out or at least the pack leader in post-apocalyptic RPGs and now-in-the-direction-of-a-full-blown-FPS is it's exclusive use of the aftermath of a retro-future society that borrows heavily from US 50's/Cold War culture and parodied Americana. No, we haven't forgotten about Europe, China or the Soviets; It's just that the McCarthyism and "Best Generation" mindset is only really effective and relevant as a theme in North America.

Because Interplay, the original creators; and Bethesda, who try to remain (arguably) faithful to the theme of the series; are American themselves I figure another reason they would be reluctant to do a Fallout outside the US would be due to the lack of familiarity with a foreign culture. I can only guess that it's much more ballsy to parody and comment on the former pop-culture of a nation that they are not natives of. Especially since any attempt to do so would probably be regarded as pretentious and ignorant by everyone in the country of mention - seeing a foreign developer's take on their past iconography plastered all over a fictional future.]

It will probably use an upgraded version of the Creation Engine. They always change, tweak or mod the engine for each new game.

Because Bethesda will likely be working on it, I'm less certain of the location. If this were Obsidian, I'd predict that they would stay west or southwest as they have of all the games of true fallout canon. Bethesda though makes me unsure both of whether they will keep in the the Eastern US and keep within their own canon or try and sync better with the established line.

Of course I also heard some rumors of it having something to do with Japan, so who knows?

Hope they apply some more mods into their games (marts mutant mod, DC interiors) and keep the sprinting from skyrim. Also that they polish the gun-play, AI, and damage; but my guess is that it will be glossed over, being that neither of those are Bethesda's strong suit.

It's not terribly unlikely. If they keep progressing forward in the timeline, then it'll be quite a stretch of time in between the events of Tactics (the broad strokes of which are generally accepted to be canon, and I know I'm risking dismemberment by saying that). Enough will have changed that Bethesda will be able to get their setting development on (or, in the event that Obsidian develops it, get their linear story progression on). Same thing happened with a few locations in FO1/2, anyway.

Even so, the fact that it's been used before reduces the likelihood that it'll be used again. Ashur from The Pitt name drops a few places in his speeches that sounded more likely to me for some reason known only to the gods. Personally, I'm thinking the Commonwealth if it's Bethesda and Texas if its Obsidian.
