Why is it that EVERY SINGLE TIME Obsidian makes a follow-up game they tend to be buggy and less original than the first?

KoToR 2
NWN 2
FO: NV

Whats next...?
Alpha Protocol wasn't a follow up and they still fucked that up.
It was pretty much Mass Effect in spyland...
Not really.

Conversations were far less prevalent, it was far more light-hearted (although sometimes it was overtly serious without warning), you could play stealthily (well, you couldn't because you got ambushed every time, but you were supposed to), there were no party members, mission zones were handled differently, skill points more obviously affected shooting, etc.

That's why I wait for the GOTY edition!
Yeah like Fallout 3 GOTY which was the buggyest of them all and on top of that there was no official patch released for the GOTY. It was a nightmare to get the GOTY working properly, it's a good game when it works though.

Wow, Fallout Vegas has serious bugs in, I could not have called that

Yeah, I too will wait until all the programmers have exorcised their limited knowledge and have released what patches they can before buying it.

I think they should keep that one in just for lols, makes you wonder about how scrambled your brain is. I'd buy it now but need to sleep tonight.

now, if only bethesda could fix fallout 3 so I can play it on my pc *insert staring eyes*
Quoted for truth.

What a shock, many of the old TES4: Oblivion pc errors crop up in New Vegas. As for Bethesda "working on a patch", I'll believe that when I see it (over 2 years now and still no patch for the memory leaks or multi-core crashes on PC).

A company known for making the same poor quality game over and over and over again should never have been allowed near the Fallout license.

Been playing it for 3 hours yesterday and so far i encountered only a few bugs ,mobs stuck in the terrain and the game crashed on me 2 times. And the game lags more than it should considering that the engine is kinda old and games like mafia 2 works just fine on best graphics ,well i downloaded some fan made patch for that ,people claim that the game runs atleast 2 times better with it ,didnt have a chance to try it myself.

An Obsidian game on a BETHESDA engine buggy on release? No, that can't be true! Surely they wouldn't release something to let the public do their testing for them. Even so I'm sure they'd continue to support the game for a long time and not drop it after a modicum of shoddy patching was done.

Here's a fucking clue:

Fix it before it's released.

Why are we thanking them? People should be lighting torches and grabbing their pitchforks.
Because it's OBSIDIAN
Your reply doesn't match anything I've said, unless you're answering the "why are we thanking them?", although it's not like they've ever done anything for gamers particularly so I doubt it.
Despite the occasional shitty and/or unfinished game (See KotOR 2, Alpha Protocol), and the godawful buggy state of most of their games upon release, I can't help but love Black Isle/Troika/Obsidian to bits. They are the complete antithesis to boring, shitty games developers churning out mind-numbing crap that sells. They are never afraid to risk doing something THEIR WAY, and fuck the rest. Yes, their games often release in a fucking terrible state, but I can't hate them for that.

Great things Obsidian have done for gaming, either as Obsidian or as Troika/Black Isle:

Fallout
Fallout 2
Planescape: Torment
Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
The Temple of Elemental Evil
Vampire: The Masquerade ? Bloodlines
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer
Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir
As Obsidian, all they've done is fuck up.

You can have all the ambition in the world, but that doesn't mean shit if you're too lazy/incompetent to bring it together.

Neither of these games was fucked up. Mask of the Betrayer is excellent... SoZ is very good.

But stick to your opinion, you don't seem to want to be open-minded about it. I guess you got burned with Alpha Protocol, lol. I sent mine back to Amazon.
No, with KotOR 2. Then NWN2. Then Alpha Protocol.

I've played enough Bethesda games to take the bugs as being part of the charm. It's not like I could do a better job.

...okay, the fact that I'm willing to make an excuse as lame as that is probably good evidence that I've become a bit of a fanboy. FOR SHAME.

I can handle super mutants and other nasties, but that... that is just too much! I guess it's time to bring out the silver bullets and whatnot.
