Favorite game that tanked in sales

Okami and Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. Not like I haven't seen any of those listed here before, but they're the most obscure games I have that I really like.

I think the problem with Okami was that it was released the same year as Twilight Princess, and not on the Wii until two years later. People who wanted Zelda-like gameplay were probably looking for it on the Wii, and Twilight Princess overshadowed it in hype (it WAS the realistic Zelda that people had been looking for, after all).

Sooo many of my favorite games tanked in sales and later became cult classics.
Eternal Darkness, Vampire Masquerade: Bloodlines, Planescape: Torment. Just to name a few.

I don't think it "tanked" per se, but one game that didn't get as much attention as it would have deserved was World in Conflict. For a multiplayer based game like WiC, the player base always was too small to sustain a community over time.
I played the demo and wasn't too impressed, but I really liked the concept of the game. Maybe eventually we'll get an 80s USSR vs NATO tactical RTS in the Men of War engine or something.

Anyway,
- Ace Combat Zero sold pretty well in Japan, and I don't suppose it really tanked in the big picture, but its sales in the US were unimpressive enough to Namco that they brought the franchise over to the 360 for the next iteration. This was probably the right decision, but Zero was Ace Combat's stylistic apogee, and a rather under-appreciated game.

- Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction was a really great game that doesn't seem to have sold nearly as well as its contemporaries. Which is kind of a shame.

- Warship Gunner 2 wasn't exactly a great game, but holy crap was it addicting. I don't know for certain it tanked, but I can't imagine it sold well either in Japan or here in the States.

Psychonauts, ICO, and Disgaea (though I could probably just list all the games I've played by Nippon Ichi) come to mind almost immediately. Out of those three, I'd say ICO for sure.

I've always wanted to try Earthbound (Mother 2), too. The problems are, because of lousy sale, the SNES cartridges go for the ballpark of $100, I'd still have to buy an SNES console to play it even if I could find one, and most people don't think the game will have a western release again (for both the poor original sale and potential copyright issues).

bloody roar: primal fury
Another person who knows the endless joy of a fighter that is actually fun. I had such a blast playing that game with friends, and yet the recent Soul Calibers and Tekkens bored us to tears.

Oh where is bloody roar when we need it?

Nier.
Can't think of another game that did as poorly as Nier did but was simply amazing.
Unfortunate that the studio actually went out of business due to it. Wonderful game.
and once again you ninja me...<.<

Yes, I really liked Nier... probably my favorite game of 2010...

I second the opinion's of people saying Lost Odyssey. That game deserves a sequel and more importantly not to be in a £5 bargain bin.

Other than LO, Nier is definitly a good one (granted the combat wasn't excellent)

But the one which I would say got me most value for money despite the low sales figures is Bladestorm, that game could keep you playing for hours and as in my opinion still one of the best hack and slash games on the Xbox 360.

EDIT: And now ive been ninja'd, such a harsh cycle!

Pretty much anything by Treasure (especially ones like Mischief Makers and Astro Boy: Omega Factor).

Grabbed by the Ghoulies or Jet Force Gemini on N64. I think JFG might have sold OK though. Don't remember.

Also, Sudeki on Xbox. LOVED that game. Still play it every now and then.

The entire Call of Duty series. Shame there's nobody to play with online, guess it never took off.

Timeshift.
Okay, it's pretty bad going by the standards of 'actual completed game', but it was worth playing through, and there were certainly laughs to be had due to time shenanigans.

I'm not sure how the sales were but Kameo: Elements of Power. I've played that game a lot but never heard anyone talk about it.

War for Cybertron x1000000
I'd still be playing the amazingly fun Escaltion and King of the Hill mode to this day if it didn't run out of players. Best shooter since CoD 4 by far. Dark of the Moon obviously had much less funding and time, and is x10 worse. Still sort of fun for a week or two though.

Seige of Avalon
Did we play the same Siege of Avalon? :/
I would assume so. I really liked the story, even if the combat was a tad lackluster.
Ah, liking the story makes sense. Though I would personally change "lackluster" to "completely broken". It may have just been my version, but it was basically impossible unless you were a mage and just fireball'd the shit out of everything
