Knights of the Old Republic 1&2 and in general anything Bioware ( and now Obsidian aswell ) produces.

and a really underappreciated game that was the last thing Troika released before going bankrupt, a great game that truly deserves to be played and that is Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines.

LE : I'd also like to add the entire Shin Megami Tensei Persona series.

Easily Morrowind+expansions+mods. Yes children, bethesda are a lot of the reason why I prefer gaming on the PC, Mods are the greatest! (though the vanilla game was unbeleivably awsome, especially bloodmoon).

Actually, having thought about it for more than a second Morrowind wasn't the best by that far, but I've sunk far more time into it than I have any other game (except for multiplayer stuff). I suppose Vampires the masquerade deserves an honourable mention for the sheer awsome, though I found it to be buggy (must be a pretty fucking awsome game if I endure it through several gamebreaking bugs).

Ever played Legend of Dragoon on the PS1? It had a combo system, loads of playable characters, a good story and came over three discs. Sort of went under because Final Fantasy VII leered it's spikey blonde head.

Shame I can't find a copy now. Legend of Dragoon is about £80 now I think.
LoD was epic. I had a friend who traded in his copy at one end of the country, then decided he wanted to play it again so searched for a copy at the other end of the country. He found one - the same damn one. It's that fucking rare nowadays!

Probably Fallout 3, which is surprising really since I hated Oblivion with a passion.

I suppose it just shows how much the background story of the game can help make a game better. It's a shame really that the main reason Bethseba made such a great game was because of someone else's IP combined with decent if not brilliant gameplay.

Skies of Arcadia.

Not a lot of people played it but it was and still is one of my favorites. It came out on the Dreamcast as it was dying and then had a second wind on the Gamecube. Seriously, pick it up if you ever need some good ol' turn based RPG action. Plus it has airship battles.
100% agree. That game is one of my all time favourite games.

Honourable mentions:
Phantasy Star Online
FFX
Tales of Symphonia

Goddamnit, ninja'd.
If it abssolutely positively has to be a game, I think I'll go with Kotor 2. Not as good as the first one, and many other games are better, but it was the first RPG I ever played.

I never did get Bloodmoon or Tribunal...
Do it, I think my little brother picked up the GOTY edition for something like $15au a few years ago. It's so very, very worth it (though starting a new character having played through morrowind previously may be a bit shit, I only ever played through it with one character).

Neverwinter Nights provides more quality (and original) game play hours than most other RPG's combined. Several of its player made modules surpass many of the games being sold for $50-$60 a pop.

The Javelin.

OT: Fable 2, as it's the only RPG I've played. =(
Even calling Fable II an RPG is pushing it.
Wiki says otherwise

Fable II is an action role-playing game developed by Lionhead and published by Microsoft Game Studios for Xbox 360.
Wikipedia..I cant take you seriously.
You know you can't edit wikipedia without PROPER permission, right? You sound like my history teacher. (who knows nothing about history)

So many times I was at the GAME store where they had it for $20, but I just never had cash on me.
I just dont think I could get into it though, I could never get back into Morrowind after roaming Cyrodil for 300 hours.
Yeah, bloodmoon would work independantly of the main story, but tribunal is heavily linked and installing it before finishing the first campagn is flawed (I won't go into why for the sake of spoilers, but it isn't meant to be played that way). still though, if you're bored or short of games it's definately worthwhile, both expansions are set off of the vaardenfall mainland, so it isnt strictly more of the same.
