Counter-point. The first step towards taking care of your body is to like it.

Why take care of something you hate, that you're ashamed of?

OT: It it bad that I like the Tifa one? Looks like she has more muscle. Considering she didn't get the "super-strength twig arms" like the Shinra SOLDIER folks and she punches robots to death, she probably should have a bit more muscle.

...Really? We're stooping to mudslinging levels that are THAT low?
What?s this ?we?? I?m me; I?m not a part of a ?we.?

As far as mudslinging? I personally don?t see it as mudslinging. If you consider that comment mudslinging, then you should admit they drew first blood. I was just defending American women by saying that that the average American woman is NOT as fat as these female character adaptations are. The photoshoppers are insulting American women by insinuating that these fat figures represent the average American women.
What should be understood however, is there is a HUGE difference between " being overweight" and having a different body type. Simply because someone is an endomoprh or an apple shape does not mean they are fat. The pictures are not actually of overweight women, they are just different body types. Not everyone can be an ectomorph, or an hourglass figure regardless of how much weight they lose. You can be underweight and still not have a flat belly due to your natural body shape. The idea that some think someone is fat simply because people have different body types does not mean they actually are, it is only showing ignorance of the human form. I personally would like to see more body types included in gaming. nhaving a variety of different heights, races, body types and personalities would be great.

More of this:
No. I'm willing to put actual, real US dollars down this. If the altered Helena, Riku or Cortana went into a reputable doctor, the doctor would give them a nice long chat about how they're very, very overweight.

Almost all of these characters were perfectly fine beforehand, or only need to be slightly bigger to present a "reasonable" image.
LMAO.. WHAT?!! I certainly hope you do not actually believe that. No, they do not appear to be overweight by the pictures provided here, just different body types. This may be helpful to you:
Except Helena and Riku are easily 200lbs, if not more.
LOL no, they would not be, not unless they were giants.. ROFL.
This may help you visualize as a reference:
I don't need a reference.

Two women, one who is basically my height (6ft) and another who would barely come up to my chest, both of who suddenly ballon'ing up to be 2x-3x my size around are going to weigh AT LEAST what I weigh (205lbs) or more. It's sheer size at that point.
Apparently you do need a reference, as the pictures you are going on about are not even overweight, and unless they are well over 6ft they are not going to be over 200lbs in that picture LOL

Yes, muscle weighs more than fat, but that would have to be a lot of muscle to make them weigh that much and look like that.

For example, she has more muscle than they do and does not weigh over 200lbs:

Even all that muscle only weighs 138lbs..
On the point of Riku--she isn't a polejumper or a weightlifter. She's a nimble thief and an on the fly grease monkey. Most grease monkey's I know (Marines usually) are thin and are swift as opposed to stocky. Riku in that altered picture does not line up with what her profession is namely since she is extremely active and "go go go!" personality that cannot sit still for more than a minute. And frankly if you pay attention to her in game she hardly ever eats anything meat based and has a diet that revolves mainly on fruits and vegetables. Meaning doesn't get protein for muscle mass increase most likely. (This would make sense since she lives in a desert society where meat would be a rare commodity given that's a harsh environment for most edible creatures to survive in droves.)

Riku would be a small and thin lady and it makes sense as fat or too much muscle would weigh her down. The fact that she fights with short blades also shows she wouldn't be a heavy set person in muscle as there's not much mass she's swinging around.

My biggest issue is that all of these things betray what their professions are. I'm sorry but you are not going to have a paunch if you are dedicating your life to your agility and skill at hand to hand combat. Namely if you are an acrobat, mountain climber, repelling specialist, and infiltration enthusiast like Laura Croft is. If this was meant to reflect the average american woman then yes, they are correct but that's nothing to be proud of as the average american has a sedentary lifestyle which promotes energy storage in their bodies--i.e. fat gain.

To a point, that's what some of the bigger people have said has been a part of the motivation for their weightloss is actually, despising their body and what they were doing to themselves by allowing it to be as big of an impact on their life as it was.

I could be wrong, but Boogie on youtube's gone through alot of stuff to get himself down to a more reasonable weight(though he's still very much aware that it's disappointing for him to have let himself go as long as he has and he still has a long way to go), and he's said that was one of the things that finally got him to go through with it, in addition to meeting his wife and being successful for the first time in like ten years.

I've always been very much of the mind that you don't do much by tearing down things if you don't have something better to replace it with.

As for Tifa, I like her waist area for the most part, though it could honestly have alot more definition to it,it just looks squishy, but her arms still look like twigs in proportion to the rest of her body, and it just looks worse because she appears to have skin hanging off of them as opposed to them being strong. It just doesn't look right.

Though honestly, most of the games are very much anime-inspired things, where since the 90's strength's never been one of those physically obvious things, but more by the actions and feats able to be accomplished by them. Sure you get some muscled exceptions, but most of the time there's not all that much muscle visible with most characters in comparison to the things they do. And I just think it's sorta funny because of that with the choices they made here.

In what way would muscle weigh her down? Like it weighs these ladies down?

You do realize that this woman and many other body builders are vegans don't you?

Yes, a vegan from birth...
I have no idea what you are going on about...
Female mechanics:

I have yet to actually discuss "average Americans" I have been discussing " exceptional women" the women we consider in top form and should aspire to. Top form is not too skinny or too fat.

Add to it, that Christie character from Teken 5 actually looks like she's anorexic, I can see her freaking rib cage!
It's a real life capoeira practitioner, and you can see her rib cage and she's blatantly not anorexic.
You're overcompensating, don't do that.

erttheking said:
These women aren't obese. They're normal sized.
The average height of an American woman is 5 foot 5. A healthy weight for a person of that height is betweem 8 and 11 stone. The average weight of an American woman is just under 12 stone.
In America normal is overweight, that is not something that should be encouraged. Hell you only have to bring it up to 13 stone at the same height to literally fit the definition of obese, and some of the photoshopped women in question look like they might meet that milestone.

erttheking said:
I don't see what the problem is. Some people in the world are fat. The point of this was to display how women in the real world actually look. It'd make sense that some of them would be fat.
Considering they're almost all martial artists, no, it doesn't make sense that some of them would be fat.

Lil devils x said:
And part of the problem is people have been exposed to unrealistic female images for so long, they actually believe that is what women should look like. This thread alone shows people actually thinking the images were fat, when all they did was show different body types.
Helena Douglas is 5 foot 7, so the average American woman's weight does make her overweight.
Rikku is 5 foot 2, so the average American woman's weight does make her obese.
Some of these adjusted characters are just displaying different body types, but some of them are objectively and factually fat.

OT: I'm all for a larger variety of realistic body types, but let's keep them to the games where they belong. Not the games where special forces agents fist fight lightning gods, or where martial artist's punch giant robots so hard the disintigrate into atoms.
Unless they want to do it in a comedy type way
That could work.

Look, I get what bulimia.com were trying to do and frankly it wasn't that bad of an idea. Really shitty execution though, really shitty execution.
Look at your first picture and take measurements of that fighter vs the fighter you were comparing her to. They are not even the same shape, the bones are not the same lengths.

They didn't actually make her the average womans weight, nor " overweight" or " obese" in the picture. They really just changed the body shapes moreso than anything else. Weighing them in they would not actually weigh the "average american woman's weight" that is just click bait wording, not actually reflective of the pictures themselves. If you look at Rikku's belly, it isn't even protruding over her skirt. She has a wider waist, but that does not necessarily mean " overweight" that means different body shape. You can actually still see her ribs in that picture. Looks like they gave her an apple body type, so that if you simply scaled that down, she still would not have a waist the size of the original. They changed her actual body type, to what appears to be an apple and endomorph, one of the least desirable body shapes, but that does not actually mean " fat".

This is an apple body type:

Certainly is a shame that "Average American Proportions" means fat.
That isn't fat. Half of the girls up there are average sized for women in 1st world countries in general. The others are chubby at worst.

Christ I always knew that media had a tendency to set unrealistic expectations for bodies but I didn't know it was THIS bad.

While there may be some disagreement about whether or not the women presented are fat, "Average American Proportion" does mean fat, with the average American BMI being 28.7 (http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/series/sr_11/sr11_252.pdf), and I'm pretty sure that the extra weight usually isn't muscle.

My point was that being able to see someones rib cage is not an indicator of anorexia or even an unhealthyly low weight. That by saying "she looks anorexic" Err the King was basically thin shaming.

Doesn't matter what body shape she is, she's fat. The fact the photoshop sucks so you can still see her ribs (bear in mind that seeing ribs and apple body shape are not compatable in any way) and her overweight status isn't relfected in her clothing doesn't change the fact that in this example Rikku is obese.

At her largest she's 222 pounds, at her smallest 134. The picture of Rikku we're discussing clearly resembles the second picture along most. Assuming that's an equal split of weight lost that would put her at 200 pounds, over 14 stone. Which again, is the definition of obese.

I'm sorry, but your assertion that these images are only displaying different body types and none of them are overweight is just wrong, anyone who's applying any kind of common sense to this can see that.
No, it would not put her at that weight, No where near that weight. ROFL. She has the same figure as the model I added to the post above. 200 lbS? DId you not see the picture above of what 200lbs actually looks like? HAHAHA

The original picture of rikku has her skinnier than me.. I am 110lbs and a size 1 in juniors, I am 34D 23 34 (inches) measurements and the original picture of Rikku actually even looks smaller than I do. People are always trying to get me to gain weight, including my physician.

Your "idea" of what is fat and what is not is part of the problem here. The 200lb woman in this thread looks nothing like the altered picture of Rikku:

This is the body type of the altered Rikku:

Compare how there is NO protruding belly on either? Yet there is on both the picture you presented of an overweight woman and the 200lb woman here?

Uh.

They need better photoshop people, one. Secondly, couldn't they at least recognize what some of these characters do and are? Cortana is literally a created image of a woman, and so, would generally not be chubbs in any way, it's just the way most drawn/animated characters tend to be. Including our reality, so, yeah she totally makes sense.

Secondly, could we give some of them some muscle or detailing to reflect what they do asides just changing their proportions.

Also can I say this can also be taken sexist as the males have similarly unrealistic but aren't being shown here as well? I mean, I can be petty too, right?

Well you would clearly be wrong then.

The side by side comparison makes that much obvious, you can see quite plainly that the photoshopped version of Rikku looks to be 50% larger than Kate Upton in the picture you provided. Kate Upton weighs 140 pounds so that would put Rikku at 210 pounds. Although I think you already knew that, considering you've resorted to "HAHAHA" and "ROFL" in lieu of any points or reasoning.

And if you cloned yourself, grew the clone to full size and then ate the whole thing in one sitting. Then you'd weigh as much as the photoshopped version of Rikku
Notice how both Rikku and Kate do not have protruding bellies and the photo you show does? Kate and Rikku have the EXACT same shape and proportions, the other picture you show does not. No it does not look larger than Kate.. not at all, even their thighs look to be the same diameter. ROFL. They gave Rikku Kate Upton's body and people are flipping out.

You're REALLY, really trying to bend this to your side, but it just isn't working.

As someone pointed out, altered Helena is 5'7, which is only 3 inches shorter than I am (6'0). But she is more than twice my width and depth; so if I weigh 205lbs, altered Helena must weigh AT LEAST that, if not noticeably more.

Just looking at Riku, its fairly obvious she is way overweight for not only her frame but her height. There isn't a way you can bend this to your side without looking like a fool. You are certifiably wrong. And if you want to continue trying this, as I said; that bet from before is an open offer.

There's just so much wrong with this post and mindset if you truly believe this...
And now you know why people have a problem with certain posters in this thread declaring that the female body type that just so happens to be the one they themselves are attracted to and the one that is devoid of any and all fat is the peak of human health.
Who said that...Most people I've seen in this thread have said that this is just swapping one extreme for another and applying American standards to non-American characters with non-American lifestyles. I don't find any of the characters sexually attractive all that much at all, at least not since I was a kid, big boobs aren't really that appealing to me personally, and neither are arms that don't have definition, but body's been secondary with the exception of eyes and smile for years. Heck, you wanna keep going that route, I can just as easily say there's far too many people that like soft fat girls in this thread and that's a bit unhealthy considering...But let's not, shall we?

And nobody said they were so much the peak of human health so much as they are the peak of human FITNESS, two very different things there. I'm healthy, have a resting heart rate of 58, hard working around 128, thirty second inhale/exhale cycles(I thank band for this more than anything) with a pretty reasonable amount of strength considering I can do about a couple dozen pullups without stopping, and if it weren't for my damn knee I could run something around a 4 minute mile(but that's gone and done, I can't run that well anymore), but I'm a bit overweight at the moment for a variety of reasons, most of them revolving around me working all the damn time and not sleeping much for 10 years and as of about three hours ago, working on getting towards a second decade. But I am in no way FIT. Healthy can be a side effect of being fit, but being fit is not a side effect of being healthy.

If I was fit I would be about fifteen pounds less, better flexibility that isn't the result of my stupidly loose joints(like seriously I have to shove my shoulders, a finger, and at least one rib back into place at least twice a day, shit's tedious as all hell, wonderful when your back is tight from sleeping on the ground though, so at least there's an upside), and a physique that didn't remind someone of a soda bottle.

And seriously, your last two posts were solely about blaming guys and that mythical male gaze(female gaze exists just as much dude, so maybe we can just stop it and call it the Human Gaze?), and if you seriously believe that's as much of a thing as those posts imply, I weep for you as well as in your general direction.

Some people like heavier soft fat girls, nothing wrong with that, but some people like smokers as well(I know I do, I find the scent of good burned tobacco fucking amazing for whatever reason). And while I know the two can't always be compared, soft fat is not something I want to begin with in a partner, it's always been a symbol of people getting close to me for whatever other reason in addition to being a potential health "risk".

I know I may not be making sense, but honestly I'm having trouble understanding you as well.
