I got bored in Mania. Too unlifelike. Yeah, it was cool at first, but I found it hard to take it seriously.Novs said:Morrowinds oddity is what make the game good. Morrowind was an Oddity and not something that encompasses Elder Scrolls. The world of Tamriel isn't some alien place and if I was to be frank, I'd say Morrowind sticks out like a sore thumb. As for a colourful work of art as you seem to think it is, you may have forgotten that most the land of morrowind is a charred wasteland. Oblivion had a hugely varied colour palette to the point of obscenity. It seems skyrim is toning back the colour palette as it was far too cartoon like in Oblivion.Novs said:Morrowind had good art direction. More colour than oblivion, but also alot of strange and otherwordly things, and a nice handcrafted world giving it some sort of soul.Brotherofwill said:I agree that Morrowing and especially Oblivion where lacking in the concept art and art direction department, but this looks pretty good so far. The nordic focus, full of runes and inscriptions, as well as the environments and all the like look good to me. I mean I'm not blown away, but it's a vast improvement over Oblivion. The yellow-red forest alone is already better than anything Oblivion achieved in terms of scenery.Novs said:HEY GUISE HASNT ANYONE NOTICED THAT THEIR COLOUR PALETTE CONSISTS OF BROWN,GREY AND GREEN? AGAIN.
Seriously bethseda l2art.
Why?
Because weve all seen those shitty generic grey, brown, and green fantasy landscapes with forests castles and knights. How fucking boring.
Oblivion did not have colour variety. It was green everywhere, with grey towns, and brown parts.
And lol Oblivion isnt cartoon like at all. WoW is cartoon like, Fable is cartoon like, and oblivion is nowhere near those 2 games.
Oblivion art direction is amateur and generic.
Novs said:Its not alien landscapes that i think will make a game good. Whats wrong with a pretty interesting and unique color scheme within a game? Why does it have to be boring grey brown and green. The terrain design looks better though, instead of the boring flatness that was oblivion atleast now there seems to be some sort of decent enviroment design...Thyunda said:I got bored in Mania. If I wanted lurid, alien landscapes, I'd take LSD. It's hard to have an epic quest when nothing seems to be the right colour...try playing Mass Effect with the colours inverted.
Bright bizarre colours. Look at me everyone, I'm unique. People make too big a deal about the colour schemes in real world/future-based games. Truth is, there aren't that many natural colours. You could set it in a jungle...then it would just be green.Novs said:How boring of you.Thyunda said:Novs said:Its not alien landscapes that i think will make a game good. ...because landscapes are generally grey brown and green? I shall look out of my window. I see green and brown fields. Grey sky. Brown trees. Brown leaves.
What possible colours could you want? One reason I prefer Western RPGs over Japanese ones is because the locations feel more real, and less pretentious.
Im not even sure why you call it pretentious... that doesnt even make sence.
That's why I said white was a shade of grey.Novs said:But confusion is interesting and fun, because why should everything be straitforward and boring? Variety is what makes things interesting. And yes, I realise that my post could be construed as me being boring. But to be quite honest, if I played this expecting the Skyrim talked about in Oblivion, and got some purple and yellow bumblebee buildings, I would be confused to fuck.
Besides, it's all just white. Not brown, green and grey. Well, the forests are green, and white is a shade of grey...I guess. There is no winning with you.
Being a resident of the british isles, i could go off a visit a castle and that makes buying oblivion redundant.
White isnt a real colour. Neither is black.
No, Tolkien wrote that he based LOTR in The Black Country of England. Staffordshire and the Moorlands. They couldn't film here, so they filmed in New Zealand, because it's similar and easier to film in.Novs said:No, that would be if you lived in New Zealand.Thyunda said:That's why I said white was a shade of grey.Novs said:But confusion is interesting and fun, because why should everything be straitforward and boring? Being a resident of Staffordshire, that makes watching or reading The Lord Of The Rings redundant.
Lord of the Rings has other elements worth reading and watching it. But its also got good design and effects for a movie.
But games being mostly visual experiences is a diffrent thing.
dont be such a downer D:Eldan said:Meh... more standard generic Fantasyland, just shinier. Nothing that looks really pretty (as opposed to polished but standard) either. If I want to see snowy mountains and pine forests, I can go outside.
Also, no way that was all ingame footage. The breathing, the facial expressions and so on in the dragon fight? That's the Oblivion trailers all over again.
Gimme some more Babylonian dwarves and Japano-Egyptian elves, please?
