For the older gamers (10+ years of gaming), what is your GOTD (game of the decade)?

I've been playing games since I was 6, back in 1993. So, I certainly qualify. But, I don't consider myself a "gamer". I can go like half a year at a time without touching a game. But I can also blow through like 5 games in 2 weeks. Quite variable.

Hmmm...

I tend to lump things into "series". It's much easier. I usually just say "The Half Life series" or "the Deus Ex series" etc...

But if you insist on me picking just one game (dick!), I'll go with Mass Effect 2.

... and Half Life 2.... and Deus Ex Human Revolution... and Starcraft 2... ugh. My real answer is Mass Effect 2. Yeah. I think?

PC: The Witcher (2007)
Console: ICO (2001)

Just scratching the surface. It's been a fantastic decade for gaming.

Game I liked most out of the decade: Fallout 3.
Me too, I just couldn't pick a GOTD because there are so many brilliant games out there. But the most enjoyable for me was Fallout 3.

For me? It has to be Halo CE. Halo changed my life. It made me a hardcore gamer and through getting invited to lan partys simply because i had an xbox, it made me friends for life I wouldnt have had otherwise.

The memories from that game, from a sort of camraderie with my mates and a lot of laughs, are unforgettable!
Pretty much this, I had much the same experience being one of the lucky ones to own an Xbox shortly after release, Halo 3 probably was the biggest game overall for me though, because it provided everything from CE and added a really brilliant conclusion to the human-covenant war, given that story is most important to me in a game, the way it played out really hit me.

If not a halo game then I would have to go with Deus Ex, because that game is the reason I am in university now

Would Probably have to break it into categories.

RPG: Final Fantasy IX was released in 2000 so I would think that counts at last decade. FFX-2 would be close 2nd (and no I'm not kidding).

FPS: Halo 3 or Modern Warfare 2 would be the ones I have spent most time with. Honorable mention Tribes 2.

Online: Diablo 2 (again in 2000) or World of Warcraft. More time spent in Warcraft, but I remember Diablo more fondly.

RTS: C&C Generals easily.

It's difficult to pick just one. I'd have difficulty just picking a top ten.

Arcanum of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire, World of Warcraft, Portal, Civilization (any of them), InFamous, Dragon Age: Origins...

It's been a good decade for video games, I hope the next decade is this good.

I'm going to go with Little Big Planet 2, I spend hours on there just messing around with logic to make crazy contraptions, then when I'm done I play some levels other people made.
Plus it has 4 player support and not very many games have that anymore...

My #1 has to be Metroid Prime.

The whole Trilogy is Amazing, with my other Top-5 being:
Shadow of the Colossus (Haven't played Ico yet)
Halo: Reach (Entire Series)
Mass Effect Series (Best DLC's)
Perfect Dark

I'm gonna go with Ninja Gaiden Black. Great action, awesome music, lovely graphics (who knew Team Ninja could do something other than make softcore porn? :D), a decent storyline with an awesome plot twist, challenging gameplay with sensible methods of making the game more difficult as you progressed... an all around great game that still holds up even if it moves a little slow by today's standards.

Man... how could Team Ninja fuck up that badly with NG2?

Rock Band

This is an easy question for me actually. Playing the drums gives me a great sense of satisfaction as I gradually improve and become more consistent over the years. It revitalized gaming with other friends and I've put more time into that game than any other ever made.
I'd side with this. I love how much of a pick up and play it is (for me at least). I like how I can play for just a few songs and go back to something else. I love the game, love the series.

Pretty much says it all up there. What's your favorite game from the last 10 years?

For me to consider your opinion "valid", you have to have been gaming for at least the last 10 years.

Me? I'm going to go with Red Dead Redemption. The game is pretty much the perfect western. I still play it to this day, and will for a long, long time (even if a better sequel emerges, Kind of like how I feel about Mega Man 2). I often just put the game in, ride out to a nice spot, and let the screensaver camera kick in while I do stuff on my computer or cook food or what have you.

So, yeah... what's your game of the decade?

EDIT: 2001-2011, for clarification.

Also, don't pick a list. You have to pick 1. That's the challenge, and in that challenge, the fun.
I agree with you, RDR is an absolute masterpiece. However, my favorite (two) games of the past 10 years would be Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. For many reasons, on many levels. To me, its the Star Wars of video games, and the Star Wars movies are my favorite movies of all times. (The Original Trilogy)

Been gaming for about 20 years now, and its really hard to say what game is my GOTD but I think I am going to go with World of Warcraft. Its probably the only game I have ever played for 4 years straight and that I couldnt get enough off. There are many games that I have played that completely blew my mind like Half Life 2, the Halos, the Elder Scrolls, the Metal Gear Solids, the Grand Theft Autos and Mass Effect but none ever kept me so absorbed and enthralled so long like WoW. Sure the game has becoming boring to me now after so much time but it will easily be the game that influenced me the most, and will forever be the game that I will remember long after I stop playing video games.

Simple: New Super Mario Bros on the wii. I've never had so much fun playing a videogame with my friends. (And isn't that what it's all about?)

It's been 20 years since I got my NES with mario and duckhunt, and what a journey it was.
Looking hopefull to the future, especially if they surprise us with another "mario bros wii" sometime.
