For the older gamers (10+ years of gaming), what is your GOTD (game of the decade)?

I am going to have to go with Metal Gear Sold 2:Sons of Liberty. Its my favorite of the series, and the series is my favorite game series so yeah it is my game of the decade.

I think it would have to be GTA: San Andreas. No game kept me more entertained for so many hours.

Probably Oblivion or the various Pokemon games.

Only started playing Okami recently, but i'm starting to think it might be joining my short list of favorite games soon.

Morrowind, easily. For me, no game is as endlessly replayable. It would take a ridiculous amount of time to do/see everything once, and it really never lost its fun factor for me so replaying the same pieces with different characters is still enjoyable. Technically it's obviously not special anymore, but the world and creatures they created are still great looking in their own way. And mods can make it look amazing if you need that.

It's the game that got me into RPGs, and the gold standard by which all new RPGs are held to.

I'll probably be playing it forever.
I'll add another vote for Morrowind.
Also an honourable mention to Saints row 2 for just being hilarious and fun to play.

Well if you shifted the decade back by a year, the one and only Deus Ex by far.

Since 2001 is past that...I would have to say probably Half-Life 2. It was simply mind-blowing when it came out. Still a damn good game, even now.

Easy choice: Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.

Honorable mentions go to Portal, Batman Arkham Asylum, Pokemon SoulSilver, Assassin's Creed, the entire Ace Attorney franchise, and The World Ends With You.

Shadow of the Colossus. Simply unforgettable.
Part of me wants to go with this, and another part wants to say Portal. Thank Jebus Deus Ex came out in 2000 or I'd have an even larger problem on my hands.

Deus Ex misses out by just 1 year (2000) and that's my favourite game of all time.

I'd probably have to say Half Life 2, got it when it came out and it really blew me away, such a giant leap for FPS without any of the stuff that made Halo (the other revolitionary shooter of the time) boring imo.

I have to give some honourable mentions as well.

Portal: Every human being should play this game
Metal Gear Solid 3: I was fucking hyped for like 2 years and it didn't disappoint
Unreal Tournament 2004: Best online shooter ever (I only wish it still had as strong a community)
Timesplitters Future Perfect: Best multiplayer console shooter, just a shame the PS network at the time sucked balls, I'd love to have it re-released in HD with good servers running.
Demons/Dark Souls: Best RPG gameplay ever imo.

I'll vote alone and elect Banjo Tooie as the best game by being the all time greatest sequel ever, bar none.

A game that was everything that made the first game good with an amount of additional content greater than the entire first game.

This is how sequels should be. Not like most games that start the sequel with none of the item/abilities from the previous games.

It had tight gameplay, imaginative set pieces, charming characters and fun.

Fun seems to be what a lot of games lack these days without drawing from the multiplayer bucket.

There are many contenders for that title - Fallout 3, Assassins Creed 2, RDR, SC2 and some others. But I think the game that I derived most pleasure from this last decade was definitely:

Civilization IV (2005) - it wasn't impressive at first, with some balance issues and a weak AI. The Beyond the Sword expansion (2007) addressed most of those issues and while it still is not perfect it is in my opinion currently the best game in the series. Not to mention all the amazing user made mods for the game (my favourite, the dark fantasy total conversion Fall From Heaven 2). And many of those mods spawned modmods, which had their own modmodmods etc.
I guess the game can be criticized for being sloppily made - it is needlessly resource hungry and inefficient, turns take ridiculously long to load in the late game; also, to get the best experience out of it you need to be using unofficial mods to improve the AI, the interface and speed. But even with all its flaws I love it more than any other!

Well, would love to say Final Fantasy IX; first game I loved and it made me who I am today, however it came out in 2000/early 2001 so technically not within 10 years.

So this decade I would say TF2, 2379 hours played with many more to come I'm sure.

2nd would go to Kingdom Hearts II, only big game I ever completed 100%.

I guess I would give this to either Tales of Symphonia or Tales of Vesperia. Either is awesome.
