I don't hate it, I think it's actually kinda amusing.

When, in all actuality, it's pretty much Halloween - minus scaring the hell out of infants and all of the candy.

That's the way I've always looked at it. And who doesn't love Halloween?

In 2008 I was at Videogames Live in London. There were all manner of half-arsed costumed people wandering around, and then this guy walked in and the place went mad!

I've only ever cosplayed once and that was as Orihime from Bleach. I made my own costume because I'm pretty good at working with fabrics and I'd say it turned out pretty well.

The only reason why I've never cosplayed again was the fact that I got hit on by so many nerds. It was actually kinda creepy. They started telling me that they would fuck me as long as I was in costume and if they could refer to me as Orihime. As much as I love nerds, and as nerdy as I am, that just creeped me out.

I think it's okay. 90% are pure shit, but it's not really about that though. It's about the people having fun making the costumes showing them off, looking at others, and maybe finding a really great one. I'm completely not opposed to it.

In case you don't know, cosplay is basically dressing up as an anime or video game character.

Basically you answered that by saying what it is. Dressing up like japanamation/videogame characters just seems wrong and kinda creepy to me. I guess I'm more on the side of programming/web dev/game creation nerd than the anime/manga/cosplay obsessed side. The only time I saw it and didn't think something negative (actually thought it could be fun), was when I saw some thing on here or Kotaku about STALKER cosplay. Looked more badass then geeky.

Usually western cosplay looks crap because it would take a lot of time/money to get a good outfit (although that Fallout one in Russia did look awesome) and Japanese tends to be better, but it's anime, and I hate anime.

I naturally am just not too fond of ANY fanatic of anything.

Also my girlfriends brother is into cos-playing and he had spent something like over $200 for a good costume (I forgot which one, but I think it was from Death Note). And to me, thats just a huge waste of money. But I know, I know. Its their hard earned money, and they can do whatever they want with it.

I don't hate cos-play though. Its just a hobby. I would never do it though. And when done right, it looks pretty damn sweet. And not JUST the girls who do it. I saw some pretty kick ass Pyramid Head ones.

I can see why people who aren't into anime or video games don't like it though.

I would love to cosplay sometime, but I've never really gotten the chance. Tekoshocon was here a couple of months ago, but I was broke and anime, for the most part, isn't my cup of tea. I have a Tank costume though. Have to wait for zombie walk 2010.

It's not that I don't like it, it's that I personally can't ever see myself doing it. I always love it when someone has a really well crafted costume, it's an art after all. It's just something I can't do, I guess. Too much attention maybe.

It's unnecessary unoriginal behaviour that contributes to nothing. Why try to look like someone else when you can dress up in a fashion style you like?
