Gamestop with its over priced crap and retarded used game sales beat STEAM? Lord of all Discounts? Not a chance.

Gamestop was ok but STEAM doesn't only have convenience on them they have a universal network for communities, thousands of games GAMESTOP refuses to look at. Sorry but no it won't.
Gamestop could offer faster download speeds and cheaper prices. They simply have more capitol to toss around, and a sales volume.
Faster downloads? Not meaning to sound like a fanboy here, but I've never had my connection with Steam ever go slower then my connection's max.

Steam is good, but it's not perfect. Their DRM is horrifically intrusive.
All I know is that you need Steam running to play some games (I have Stalker, Thief, and Call of Duty that I don't need Steam up to play). It doesn't sound so horribly intrusive to me.

This coming from a guy who obviously lost Impulse to a takeover by Gamestop. Do you think if Impulse was that good, Brad would have handed it over to Gamestop? Do you think Valve would have sold Steam to Gamestop?

Steam didn't invent game sales but they did invent STUPIDLY STUPID GAME SALES of OLD GAMES and entire PUBLISHER'S CATALOGUES. They also invented cross platform ownership of games. They did not just invent Steam. They are currently coming up with new things. Things that Gamestop would not dare try unless approved by investors who probably don't know much about games.

Valve hired a psychologist to give them an insight to how buyers and gamers would react to certain "suggestions". Yes they're that crazy. And Brad must be talking to the wrong people when they did their survey. They should ask the people who would rather be on Steam than anywhere else. These are the PC gamers and converts who have been around when Steam started. They'd tell you one thing and this is the difference between Steam and Impulse and Gamestop.

"We trust Valve."

This token aspect intrigues me...new game purchases in the store will award tokens, maybe pre-owned game purchases will give you less...and these tokens can be used on impulse to trigger 10% off deals, maybe trade a bunch for a free game...

Then again, this is gamestop we are talking about...they'll probably mess it up with greed. But if they don't, then it would put Steam in a difficult position...Steam after all only applies to pcgaming where was being tied with gamestop would include something for the consoles...

Steam is easier and cheaper, and with GameStop's pricing history I see absolutely no way they could beat Steam. GameStop price gouges everything in their stores, while Steam underprices everything. I just can't see GameStop being willing to drop prices enough to even compete with Steam, much less overtake them.
That's region Dependant, where I'm from both are absurdly expensive (presumably due to the publishers, as valve developed games are priced the same as they are overseas). Small retailers (admittedly not gamestop) import their own stock and charge rrp for PC games ($50us~$49au), where steam typically charges $80-$90 for a digital copy of the same game (and for the extra charge you get slapped with the extra layer of DRM).
Gonna have to call bullshit on you on that. Steams average price is not 80-90 dollars. Ive browsed for hours their catalogue. While it does not come down as OVERLY cheaper than other places, it DEFINITLY does not come over as overly pricier. The average price for their games is 50 dollars, wich is the average price for games that come out anywhere. And im speaking WITHOUT counting the unsurmountable number of sales, wich you will NEVER see in any store out here, except maybe D2D, but D2D just says FUCK YOU to anyone who is non american. i hate them for their poor deliverance of international service.

Also, what intrusive DRM? :/ Pardon the question, i really have no idea what...intrusive DRM youre talkin about.

The only thing i have to do is i have to have the platform turned on to play a game. And while a few years ago, it was a HUGE hassle, Steam is fairly smooth and easy now. OH, and i did have games i took from steam that COULD run without it. I popped Dragon Age 2 on the other day, with Steam Uninstalled, and it ran fine. I know its another layer of software between you an your game, but i doubt its the evil people tell it to be. Somethings have to be done in computing to make sure evth is safe.

Yeah, sure. In the what universe? I'm pretty sure AAA games for $3 beats Gamestop.

He's actually correct. The Australian Steam Store has a $20 surcharge plus an international transaction fee as well as a conversion. But the ridiculous sales outweigh that.

Considering GameSpot is pretty much unknown in the UK, their marketing must suck. Not to mention, I think a lot of people would prefer a company who are actual game developers and have shown some care about the community above a faceless company made up of purely businessmen and businesswomen.

Steam haters have some things in common:

They are not aware that most Steam users don't mind Steam DRM. They don't think about it as a restriction at all.

They believe that computer games are physical objects. Packaging, manuals and cards are physical objects while the games themselves aren't. If you can create copies of a product out of nothing, then it means it is not physical. Games were essentially physical in the past because then current technology required that they were bound to a physical medium in order to be used. I guess those same people would be carrying around their phonographs on their backs instead of iPods then.

They are Xbox gamers and thus have a different impression of Microsoft and their recent contribution to games. For them, good service is when they get to feel like they're on Xbox while on the PC.

Note to Australians:

Make friends outside of Australia to gift you games you want. Yes it's a ridiculous workaround but it's a workaround the regulations of Austrlia on Steam and not the other way around. Beautiful country though. At least you earn enough money to pay overpriced stuff.

Agreed. I've jsut started using steam and I love it. the random discounts of the day have gotten me to impulse buy stuff that I normally wouldn't.

Gamestop will not surpass steam. At least not in a VERY long while. Hell wasn't it jsut last year where they wanted to SUE steam because "We literally cannot compete with the deals they offer! NERF STEAM!"?

He should be happy if they could pull off beating games for windows live, which is one of the worst out there.

So wait, Impulse will be cheaper because I'm also buying XBox games from Gamespot? No I'm not, I can't even recall the last time I was in a Gamespot and I'm certainly not going to purchase games for a console I do not own.

If Gamespot wants to seriously attract my attention their holiday sales will be better than Steams. I still have several games I purchased on Steam during their holiday sales that I haven't gotten to yet. Of course if Impulse has even lower prices they aren't getting all that much money from me are they.
