Wow... she's like Jack Thompson, only nobody gives a flying shit about her and she has no pull or resources to campaign with.

I just love how she deleted a vast swathe of comments across all her posts, claiming they were obscene and mean (including a few polite anecdotes about what happens to the children of overbearing but well-meaning mothers when the children finally escape her grasp), when most of the ones she deleted were neither >< Even worse, apparently the New York Post published her original article. So... how much money do you think she made from that transaction? *sigh* I fear it is time to heed the call others have put out and ignore the obvious troll trying to drum up her page views, so they can go back to an average of 0-6 comments per blog post.

this lady needs to shut up. I think the reason people are getting more stupid is because of weed and sh!t. Video games dont really slaughter brain cells like she claims
Excuse me stop the ganja hatin. I have a 3.8 gpa and i regularly smoke weed and drink. As well gaming has improved my reading skills if anything.

Has anyone stopped to consider that MAYBE by flooding her e-mail and website comments with insults and name-calling to the degree of verbal assault (or visual assault? I don't know) they are validating her idea that she should keep her kids far, far away from videogames, and people who like videogames? I don't like her and I know the kind of person she is when I live with one of those controlling moms, but there is an astounding logic gap in some of the community here.

I'm sure most of us are simply average and keep up with school and friends and don't inhibit themselves by playing excessively, but I've definitely noticed a lot of younger kids these days are spoiled rotten and don't want to do anything except play on their XBoxes in their basement on their huge TVs, whereas I'm sure most of us in this community didn't have that kind of luxury (or technology, for that matter) until we hit our teen years. It's not even really confined to gamers. Media in general has dumbed down so much that whether or not you play games is not the issue. Partisan news with narrow opinions and the tendency to sensationalize every story shape parents, and parents develop paranoias that keep them from letting their kids do all the cool shit we used to do as kids in addition to playing video games.

The opinion article written by this woman is just parenting in general by someone who wants her kids to live balanced lifestyles when other parents don't set modest restrictions for their children. Her real concern is that her kids in her neighbourhood don't enjoy anything else other than staying indoors and playing games which LEADS to lazy kids who don't enjoy mentally challenging tasks (and let's face it, games are typically far easier today than they ever were 10-15 years ago). Some of her points are obviously uninformed; Games can and often do stimulate the brain, and people who work in the game industry as programmers and artists do truly enjoy the media. The gaming addictions she points are are mostly a phenomenon of MMOs because of the social community and are more of an addiction to the security of anonymous friendship. She makes a huge misconception that video games are mostly played by children whereas the most ardent fans are usually in their late teen's and throughout their 20's, etc. We know. We are this group of people.

Anyway, this has been a long ramble but for the tl;dr crowd:

Stop representing gamers as a giant angry mob when faced with a dissenting opinion. It might be a dumb opinion, but you just got trolled by a single mom into proving her point.

They should just call her column "The Fat *****." It accurately describes the writer and the length of her drivel.

As a response to what she is saying, I am a twelve-year-old living near the other Orange County: Orange County, NY, and I am not at all a mentally retarded piece of shit. Yes, I'm generally antisocial IRL when I'm not talkin' about nerdy stuff, but that's because most of the people that I'm forced to socialize with have an Intelligence Quotient (IQ) of at least 25 points lower than my own, with the exception of my fellow nerds. Most hardcore gamers are nerds, and, thus, your referring to hardcore gamers as mindless idiots, you pretty much angered a large portion of the people that, since the rise in popularity of the internet, pretty much control the world. Mr. Gates, Mr. Jobs, Mr. Stringer, and Iwata-san ("-san" is the Japanese equivalent of "Mr.", in case you didn't know that, and you don't) wouldn't approve.* Oh, and insulting movie geeks, as well? Are you trying to invoke the wrath of George Lucas?* And Television also supposedly rots your brain? Okay, bad TV, maybe but good shows, like most classic cartoons, The Simpsons, Mythbusters, most stuff on the History Channel, National Geographic Channel, and the Science Channel is pretty awesome, and in the case of the last four, is actually good for you. And the internet, well, hey, it's the ultimate socialization tool. You see, the internet is a worldwide thing, meaning you can see it from anywhere in the world. They could be conversing with someone in Australia, England, Canada, France, the Netherlands, or anywhere else that doesn't have harsh laws regarding the internet. Much better than making them watch lions mating, right? Oh, and you seriously named your son that you supposedly picked up on a safari in Africa "Cheetah Boy"? What kind of racist are you?

*Dramatization

If you own all that stuff you must be affluent, with a reasonable disposable income. I hardly think this issue needs racism brought into the mix.

(You could of course have a job, but I doubt it strongly)

You know, if we ignore her, she might go away. There comes a point when arguing legitamizes an opposing view when the appropriate response is dismissing it.

I cannot begin to explain how wrong this poor, technophobic woman is.

Also, I sense some irony in this thread. This woman has been misinformed, but let's not prove her right, hm?

Am I the only one who noticed that while she keeps bantering on about the growing-fat arguments, she's actually morbidly obese herself?

Okay I know se's obviously not going to look at all the posts but I'll address it to her anyway. "Frumpy Mom" I'm 16 and I have higher than average (like above the 90th percentile in every subject) scores on the plan (pre ACT test); I am also a gamer. Now I'm not saying gaming has helped me but it definetely has not hurt me either.
