Hi, I?m a 10th grader who has been an avid fan of games since I was 5. I scored a 98% on the critical thinking portion of the PSAT.
What was your point again?

Oh, and videogames are an addiction? Please reconsider that, as the evidence for video game addiction was declared inconclusive by the American Society of Addiction Medicine two years ago. Source: http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN2425415820070624
Just because there are addiction centers for something does not mean it is medically an addiction. It?s called ?taking advantage of the populace to make money.? It?s a pretty common tactic, as though of us who spend a significant amount of time reading the news know(Besides gaming, I?m also a hardcore speech and debate nerd, specializing in Team Policy and Extemporaneous speaking, so the news isn?t really news to me anymore.)

Woah, you just blew my mind.Char-Nobyl said:Let's pretend for a moment that videogames had been invented...100 years ago. They met some opposition early on, but quickly became a popular pasttime. Highschools had videogame teams, parents encouraged their kids to be the best they could be, and colleges offered scholarships for those exceptionally skilled.
Then, circa 1980, football (or rugby, either works) is invented. It takes the world by storm, with usage of videogames dropping dramatically as many kids just start playing football (American).
Suddenly, simulated violence becomes real. Concussions and broken bones are commonplace, and even Death rears its ugly head from time to time. The nations' parents begin to panic as their kids regularly come back with cuts and bruises from another session of their friends having fun hurting each other.
The scary part? This world makes sense. Why would parents embrace watching their kids beating the hell out of each other in real life if for a century they'd enjoyed 'sporting' from the safety of a game system? That's the scary part, but here's the funny part: parents *did* react this way to the growing 'menace' of football. It was no better than a bloodsport to them, because that seemed like exactly what it was.
Ya, people have been saying this for years. "Back in my day, kids were all rocket scientists before they reached age 7, and now they just sit there eating crayons."Greg Tito said:All you have to do is ask any teacher about his or her students' critical thinking skills these days and you will hear a TORRENT of horror stories about kids who have lost the power to think.
Jeez you must have sold your soul to the devil to pull that one off!FightThePower said:Yeah, I guess me playing videogames the majority of my life has rotted my mind. Which would explain why I got straight As at A level and got into one of the top 100 Universities in the World. Wait...what?
I just don't bother arguing with these people anymore, they never present any sound evidence to support their argument.
I refuse to be patronized as a brain dead, or a devil worshiper. Who is she to judge my gaming habits? If she really was a christian she would accept differences in people who choose to live their lives in a different way than hers. She makes me look bad because people will hop all over that shit and go "LOOK CHRISTIANS HATE VIDEOGAMES!!!!11!!!!!!!" and make me guilty by association.plastic_window said:I'm glad she's reading The Escapist.
To channel the Frumpy Mom directly, I'm going to state this:
This woman is beyond saving. She will never change.
Move on with your lives, people, nothing to see here.
