So, JK Rowling has set up a "female"-only rape crisis advocacy center, Beira's Place, which supports only cis women and trans men (because I guess a bloke with a beard isn't gonna trigger a traumatized lady because she'll sense he never had a penis or something, the logic escapes me) and not having an actual plan on figuring out how to tell who is who is kinda not the biggest problem, somehow. (Though I'm certain they're gonna toss out their fair share of butch ladies)

Their actual potential biggest problem is that one of the gals running it used to run a female prison, and *badly*

It's getting to be a tad cartoonish, if I'm honest.

Add in Rowling straight up naming the place after a cruel winter crone goddess...

I mean, she's fanfictioned up some new meanings for the god she's named it after, because of course she did, but like...extremely cursed vibes

What makes the tweeted version more real than other versions?

From what I can find Scottish and Celtic mythology does not contain a figure named Father Winter. Beira herself was the Queen of Winter. She was also, it seems, the mother goddess, which strikes me as an Odin/Zeus kind of position.

Counter point, you should absolutely not name a crisis rape center after Zeus, and trying to fanfic Zeus as a benevolent god of hospitality and compassion while doing so would be laughable

I am not saying that you should.

I am saying that it seems that Beira was the mother of all gods or was seen as a mother figure.

Just like Zeus was the father of the Olympian gods and Odin was the father of the Aesir.

And you did not answer my question. What makes the tweeted story any more real than other myths containing Beira? The tweeted story has a character that does not seem to appear in Scottish mythology and has a name that does not fit with the naming conventions seen in Scottish mythology.

What other myths regarding Beira, specifically ones that would make sense for a rape crisis center?

Because I couldn't find any. Just because all the other goda came from one god doesn't make it, y'know, a benevolent god

While I, personally, have not found any tales or myths, this article says there are tales that depict her as a guardian of life force who would find and nourish buried seeds. It’s in the fifth paragraph down.

A deity that protects and nourishes life, and is linked with rebirth kind of meshes with the idea of trying to help victims heal and recover.

You still have not answered my original question. What makes the tweeted story with Father Winter (who doesn’t seem to appear in Beira myths and whose name doesn’t fit the naming conventions) more real than any other myth or depiction of the goddess?

After dying, sure. Not a great vibe unless you're running an indoctrination center though

It's literally the story of Agnus and the Bride, which is further up in the article you posted

Maybe making the namesake of your rape crisis center the patron deity of hungry winter wolves is a bad plan

Yet again. What makes the Angus and Bride myth- the one you linked and the one from the earlier tweet, which is the same one- the "real" version over any other version of Beira. I have not seen a Scottish or Celtic figure named Father Winter. Father Winter does not fit the naming conventions of Scottish and Celtic mythology.

There are plenty of mythological characters that have multiple versions and interpretations. Some negative, some positive. Why do you think that this negative portrayal of Beira is the proper one and the non-negative portrayal is fake?

Death and rebirth is symbolic. It is making something new from the ruin of something old. Like stitching up a torn teddy bear, patching a ripped pair of jeans or gluing a broken bowl/vase/dish back together.
https://traditionalkyoto.com/culture/kintsugi/- This Japanese art form is a version of death and rebirth
Being raped and traumatized is the death. Recovering and healing from the trauma is the rebirth. A rape crisis center is the perfect place to try and help rape victims heal and overcome their trauma.

Man, "survival through fear and destruction" is *very* TERFy, but probably not actually the best option

I mean, appropriate if it's gonna be run by an abusive jailer though. Have the women cower in fright until it's safe for them to come out, just like the deer in winter. Selectively hunted with permission.

You still haven’t directly answered my question as to why the story with Father Winter is more real than other versions.

Though I will say your implication that the name has TERFA connotations does shed light on the subject. As does your refusal to see any positive aspect of the mythology surrounding Beira, which is mentioned in the article you linked.

You utterly hate JK Rowling and will always see everything she does in the absolute worst light that you can construct regardless of probability or possibility.

If she funded a book-mobile or personally opened a soup kitchen tomorrow you’d somehow work it out in your head that she wants to kill all transpeople.

That is the same style of thought and blind hatred that MAGATs use.

...she put a rule in place to specifically exclude trans people. If she funded a book-mobile or opened a soup kitchen and specified that trans people couldn't use it, then yes, I'd probably conclude she's being trans exclusionary.

Lmao, you got me. I think the women's shelter that specifically excludes trans women and includes trans men "because they are really women" while employing a jailer whose main claim to fame is running a prison whose staff abused the women in their care *might not* be on the up and up. Keep whining about the name though, complete with singular kind of example about seeds maybe, ignoring every other legend, including the one *that they allude to themselves*
from her announcement said:
Beira (pronounced By-ra) is the Scottish goddess of winter. She rules over the dark side of the year, handing over to her sister Bride when summer comes again. Beira represents female wisdom, power and regeneration. Hers is a strength that endures during the difficult times, but her myth contains the promise that they will not last forever.
I'm not a billionaire feminist author, but if I were going into detail about why I named a rape crisis center, I wouldn't bring up the legend where my namesake was hounding an innocent woman all winter before running out of steam in the spring

What's the 'good light' on her appointing a woman known for her publicly stated anti-trans sentiments?

This may be the first thing you've ever said with any sense to it.
"Nothing in my viewpoint takes any issue with people who would challenge or dismiss societal gender roles .. now form your entire social identity based on my subjective interpretation of your ability to reproduce or submit to brainwashing."

Cool, nice talking to you.

The entire practice of trying to "reclaim" pre-modern deities as representations of some ancestral ideal of womanhood is some borderline TERF shit already.

Being raped and traumatized is the death. Recovering and healing from the trauma is the rebirth. A rape crisis center is the perfect place to try and help rape victims heal and overcome their trauma.
People who end up in a rape crisis centre will never overcome their trauma.

Like, of all the stupid bullshit around this, the most offensive thing is that these TERFs clearly haven't given any thought to the actual condition of the type of person who ends up being referred to such a service (even assuming they will be eligible for referrals, which I actually doubt because mental health workers in my experience tend to be above this kind of bullshit). People don't get raped one time and get referred to crisis centres. People who end up in those centres have been raped many, many times, probably beginning in childhood. Many of them will have serious addiction problems, a lot of them will have been forced into sex work. They are all suffering from some kind of dissociative disorder, which for many of them will be dissociative identity disorder (what used to be called multiple personality disorder).

A person simply doesn't recover from DID. At that point, the evidence clearly points to it being a neurological difference in the structure of their brain. They can learn to live with it more healthily, but they will never recover. In fact, they will probably become less capable as they proceed through treatment because they will start to remember more. Treatment times for them are measured in decades, and they will need lifelong care, which they almost certainly won't get unless they can find a non-abusive partner willing to look after them because frankly the health system is shit at acknowledging that trauma disorders exist, especially the more serious ones. They will probably struggle to even get a diagnosis unless they go privately.

A crisis centre isn't a place people go to recover, it's a place people go to not die. It's a place to keep some of the most mistreated people in our society alive for a few weeks during particularly horrific episodes in which they might be in danger from themselves or others.
