I am sorry to my European friends, and Canadian friends. There is no winning when you're fighting with the US. Biden, and the democrats kept kicking the can of Russia, and China down the road.
Canada may be a free country independent of US control de jure, but not de facto. They can complain all they want on TikTok, Red-note, and X alongside turncoat American influencer. Still, they cannot solve the reality on the ground that there are 10 Americans for every 1 Canadian, and that the US has the better military, and economy. China won’t help Canada; they are currently tariffing Canada. They can’t help Canada any more than the US can stop a Chinese invasion of Myanmar or Mongolia.
Europe/EU too won’t be helped by China, whom my mother regards Europe as having not changed since decades ago/is slightly backwards/undynamic. They have failed in maintaining bloc unity/reactiveness. China is competing with Europe in EV sales, and consumption of goods/trade. Europe itself has nothing to offer but people as the EU lacks the geography, and natural resources to give in exchange with China. They should have joined with Russia, which had a smaller population but a larger number of natural resources, that is a fact. The George Bush admin was afraid of the EU surpassing the US, but the EU, if they were rational state actors, should have done that when they had the chance, and now the chance will come back in decades where Europe will face another few lost decades.
China, and the US both have good GDPs, and are continental powers, but China needs more resources vs population, and the US has too few population vs resources given they have Alaska which is sparsely populated. The Canada plan was to toll road the Northwest passage in the Arctic, something the Americans wouldn’t have let happen, and are driving a hard bargain about right now about. Also, Canada was unwilling to step up its military and surveillance platforms to prepare to deter Russia in the Arctic near its north as Greenland and Denmark. They wanted the US to do it, but every US asset there is one less of us asset in the Pacific, which leads to US lives lost and increases the probability of a US battlefield defeat by a non-zero amount. Same with Russia/Ukraine/Europe.
POTUS Trump may be an outsider, but he is not anti-American, anti-western, or even pro-Russian. He sent Javelins to Ukraine; he warns Europe and forced a rethinking on EU spending on the military. A pro-Russian president would have let the Europeans not rearm and would have stayed silent. He is German British, VP JD Vance is Scots Irish. He also didn’t stop ALL intel sharing with Ukraine, only offensive related intel sharing. I don’t think the war is winnable for Ukraine, and the moment the US sends troops to win in Ukraine is the moment Xi in China attacks Taiwan, Guam, Japan, and possibly South Korea.
As a US citizen I didn’t vote for Trump or the Libertarians or any other idiot third party. But Biden didn’t get Europe to rearm as fast, he didn’t campaign as well as Trump, he offends corporate America too much domestically and should have gone easier on corporate regulations on his first term who were going to Super-Pac/donate to his opponents - him to political death, and Obama didn’t sanction enough or even react fast enough to Ukraine vs Russia. He let the Iraq War go on too long and didn’t leave Afghanistan as he campaigned on, he may have been great domestically but was awful on foreign policy.
