What are you guys talking about, sure he was a dictator but thats why he could lead Libya to such prosperity, he was a great ruler of his country 90% of people were happy under him, but he never wanted to let outside influence in, thats why he had to go and be replaced by puppet government made up of traitors who will now roll in money for few years and leave the country devastated but thats all right since by then no one will talk about Libya.
Yes 90% of the people were happy under him that's why they had a full scale revolution.

Well, if this is true, then he should of gotten a proper trial and imprisonment.
That was never going to happen, even if he was captured someone would've sneaked in and put a bullet in his head.
He died from his injuries after an airstrike

I reckon they would have wanted to capture him alive, it would have impressed potential allies.

Hopefully Libya can start sorting itself out now.

not trolling.

gadaffi was instrumental figure in the non-aligned movement during the cold war. There are plenty of countries that are thankful for this because the non-alignment movement allowed many countries to remain independent as opposed US or USSR plaything.

And for all the horrible things he, libya still has better welfare than the wet dreams of many wall street protesters. education is free, healthcare is free & housing is heavily subsidized. All of those things gadaffi introduced.

Of course he was a horrible person, but that's not all he was
Sort of reminds me of a Mayor I once had. Buddy Cianci. Went to prison twice, once for beating the guy his wife was cheating with with a glass ashtray, and once for corruption, still did a lot of good for my city. The funny thing is that people would probably vote for him today in spite of all that.

40+ years of Stalinist tyranny, and the first thing people in the west do when he is killed is to bawl their eyes out that the ragged rebel militia didn't send him on a luxury holiday in Europe with all expenses paid while they figure out how many millions a year he would get to live in a mountain resort.

Briliant.
No one is bawling their eyes out or disputing that he shouldn't have been killed. Its also an invasion of the United Nation's human rights documents.

You cannot take away someone's right to live without due process. That is a basic human right and had it not been done to Gaddafi and instead on someone good or someone you support, you'd be in an outrage.
Someone apparently forgot to remind Gadaffi of that then didn't they. He had no problems slaughtering innocent civilians. He reaped what he sowed and the world is a better place for it.
Ya...I know he killed people and the UN knew he killed people. That's kinda why they wanted to arrest him and try him as a war criminal. To say he had it coming doesn't make a difference. Our society is built on these basic human rights and if just ignore said rights whenever it is convenient to our cause, we become no better then Tyrant.
The UN didn't seem to be that bothered considering they have been trying to kill him and his sons with airstrikes for months and months.

Libya had a better life standard than the USA. It started going downwards after the USA started "fixing" their problems by bombing them. Bombs of democracy will bring peace. Hell yeah.

Don't get me wrong. He did some terrible things, but he also did many good things that had impact on a global level. If nothing, he deserved a trail, not an execution. And don't tell me you buy the bullshit he "died". The UN and USA didn't even try to catch him. They are even worse than Gaddafi.

Just as with Bin Laden I think someone shouldn't sink to his level and kill him without question, but be the better man and decide in court what is just. However, it is still better for the world that this mad man is dead. But if he is dead that means the rebels now have one hell of job to get the country back in order, I'd think.
I'm sorry, but this is what Lawful Stupids would do. Gaddafi's killed enough people to fill a small town, and getting capped by an angry gunman doesn't make that angry gunman as much of a villain as Gaddafi is. That's like arresting someone in a battlefield just because said someone killed another who tried to kill this poor someone for whatever reason, purely out of trying to goddamn survive.

Neither Justice nor Nature can kill someone like Gaddafi fast enough.
I didnt mean to say the guy who killed him is a bad guy. I just think that we should show them we're the better people and put him on trial instead of murdering him.
well few things, Daffy died from his wounds and osama was armed and wouldn't give up. good luck keeping them alive. also, we kept saddam alive!(shortly) so why's everyone complaining.

They weren't bombing him, they were bombing his army which threatened the lives of the Libyan people. They bombed the Libyan army and artillery. The UN wasn't aiming to kill. They were aiming to support the rebels while cutting off the Libyan's supply lines. That all said, do you know how you arrest a man with an army? You beat his army.

If it's so pimp how come only psycho-dictators and over-compensating bling enthusiasts ever have them?

OT: With Gaddafi confirmed dead, it is a bit of a shame. His trial would have been the "crazy psycho spouting moon logic" trial of the century.

Gaddafi has done a multitude of terrible things over the length of his time in power, hence his own people led this uprising.
He was also a leader who subsedised(don't mind my English..) bread for his people, making sure that none of his inhabitants went hungry while he had oil money, and he also made the educational system very cheap. Not everyone is pure good or pure evil. There are world leaders who would deserve it more to be dethroned.

IF this is true, good, Lybia can hopefully sort themselves out and form a government that works.

As to the discussion about whether Gaddafi deserved a trial or not, Would it have really mattered? The trial could have just been a show to the world, and still end with him dead, or some supporters that may still be out there could have waited for the trial, than launch an attack, freeing him and causing this conflict to continue.

Plus, I didnt think Lybia was in any shap to have a justice system right now...

Well, this certainly doesn't help Libya's "democratic" system. Capturing and putting Gaddafi on trial would have been a great opportunity to prove to the world that Libya will be a better country than when it was under dictatorial rule. Instead, Gaddafi was killed, apparently while he was trying to surrender, according to The Telegraph.

As Commander Shepard would say: "Is that your idea of due process?"
The man killed droves of his own citizens when they were peacefully protesting. As far as I'm concerned, death comes to tyrants.

There are no rules of war anymore. There is no due process on the battlefield.(a little over dramatic I know, but it's still true)

It's a fine ideal, that all criminals get trials regardless of their crimes, but when it comes to mass murderers who support terrorists, I really stop caring. Though I have to admit I only really stop caring in that extreme.

There is also the matter that he was probably not going down without a fight. He was found with that golden pistol after all.
Don't get me wrong; Gaddafi certainly got what he deserved. All I was saying was that Libya passed up a great opportunity to show how different things will be now that the dictator is gone. There are lots of people who think that this transitional council will go the way of Egypt and essentially become a junta of some kind. Executing the former dictator on sight, who was screaming "don't shoot!" as he was shot, won't help assuaging those fears.

I suppose he should have had a trial, but the outcome would have probably been the same.
It would have been a show trial but it would have really helped Libya's image internationally. I understand why they killed him but it would have been more beneficial for Libya in the long run if they had given him some sort of trial.

It doesn't really create hope for an easy transition into democracy (or whatever political system they plan on creating).

I'm pretty sure he's dead - there's a video of his corpse being dragged through the street on the guardian website.

OT: Things will only get worse for Libya - just you watch. Soon they'll be fighting amongst themselves and we'll all act surprised...
