How the hell do people like her stay employed? I doubt she'll be called up to testify for the Congress any time, at least with this track record. Next she'll be telling us that Bulletstorm is all a communist plot (the developer is Polish after all, and I'm sure there is a poll of 5 people, aka a study, somewhere showing that all poles are in fact communist agents) to create a nationwide epidemic of rapists. Supporting facts? She mentioned it at her dinner table, hence it counts a as a scientific, peer-reviewed study.

I'm curious as to the exact legal requirements to sue for libel - would that include speculatively implying that a dev's product will, or even could, cause rape?

Not that I would encourage casual lawsuits, but I don't see any other method of punishing those who pull a stunt like this.

So let me get this straight...first I'm a future serial killer, and now I'm a future rapist? Well fuck me media, don't insult me or anything. The worst thing about these kinds of baseless provocations is if you tried to respond with violence, you'd just prove their point, but thickies like this so called 'Doctor', won't hear a word of it. Its disgusting.

"Dr. Carole Lieberman, a three-time Emmy award-winning "media psychiatrist,"
claims that videogames are responsible for turning people into rapists"

I almost stop reading right there, it sounds like this woman who deserves to have her medical license pulled for this jumping on the Media hype bandwagon instead of giving actual facts. Since this woman is supposed to be a doctor, where is her evidence other than references to other studies. Dr. Lieberman's report sounds more like a High school or Community college essay rather than a real world findings. I honestly think back when I took English 101 at a community college, I could write a more compelling argument that this media-attention-whore. This is almost the came crap that got Dr Phil's license revoked by the medical board (yes Dr Phil is now only a Doctor by degree only).

If someone starting raping individuals base on exposure to any form of media, it is because that person is already unstable to begin with and less to do with the media it self.
How many people killed others in the "Name of GOD" though out all of history, should we abolish the Torah, the Bible and the Koran over this?

During Orson Well's Radio Show of War of the Worlds sparked public panic for being confused with an actual radio news report. Does that mean we need to burn all Sci-fi Writers at the stake?

Oh, this is wonderful, but i doubt that is the last we'll ever hear from "Dr" Lieberman though, as Duke Nukem Forever is soon going to be released

When the Columbine murders took place, there were national polls where people voted on what they believed caused the two young men to kill. Media violence ranked high on the list
Huh... Apparently to her a "national poll" counts as a "study."
ROIGHT! Well then I'm going to have a "national poll" over the cuteness of bunnies and then call it a study!

I R DOKTOR NAO.
Furthermore, if you read the actual studies that are posted in defense, the studies themselves have to do with the effect that violent video games have on an individual who already has a diagnosis of mental illness. "Men with high levels of psychoticism also tend to express greater levels of rape proclivity after repeated exposure to violent and nonviolent pornography" (Markey et al, Vulnerability to Violent Video Games: A Review and Integration of Personality Research). Oh wait there's more! At the conclusion Patrick Markey and Charlotte Markey go on to say,
"However, more recent research suggests that the notion that all, or even most, individuals who play VVGs will inevitably become aggressive may be unwarranted. Instead, it appears that it is crucial to consider various personality traits of the person playing the VVG when predicting whether or not the VVG will have adverse effects."

It's pretty obvious here that Carol Lieberman is grasping at straws in an attempt to keep her job. It is completely non professional to use a study in order to draw a conclusion that is no where to be found within that study. The first document is not a study at all, rather a prematurely drawn manifesto for the cause that she is representing herself in and reads like the ten commandments with footnotes.

These documents do not support her claims. You could go in there with a fine toothed comb and find that they will never support her claim. She has used her profession to misinform the general public and her license should be revoked.

Everyone needs an opportunistic target. I have no doubts, that if some opportunistic politician hadn't started the Sarah-Palin-GOP link to the Arizona shootings, some quack would have found some link to video games or music. It's sad. Apparently, personal responsibility just isn't interesting enough to these people.

Hmm... I think we need to sic the APA on her ass.

Hey, it worked when the Florida Bar Assoc. took notice of good ol' Jack Thompson.
Which APA? The one she pulled her crappy evidence from or the real one. Yes there are in fact two APAs and one of them literally writes the book on psychiatric medicine. Guess which one she pulled her data from...

Great... I just made the connection. "Media Psychiatrist" is just a fanciful term for "Spin Doctor". Just enough education in psychology to know what questions to ask, but the rest going to media manipulation to get 'credible' news sources to gobble it up and spit it back into our mouths.

10/10 to Dr. Carole Lieberman. We've all been trolled.

"where people voted on what they believed caused the two young men to kill. Media violence ranked high on the list"

They voted what they thought, which means nothing. You could poll people on where the Earth came from, and depending on where you did the poll, you'd get difference answers. Just because most people say "the big bang theory" or "god" doesn't mean that is what actually happened.

I think she needs to burn that Ph.D ...
I mean, so far, it seems like she just tore it our of a coloring book

EDIT: Oh, my dad agrees. I told him to look at her picture and say the first words that come to mind.
"Ugly *****"
Then I told him she has a Ph.D and he laughed his ass off XD

So... She DOES know something?

I loved how one of the "studies" she cited was a public opinion poll on the motivations of the Columbine murderers.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. I'm sure the public knows all of the details and can render an accurate verdict in what motivated the columbine murders.

How can she say something like this and still be called in to be an expert witness on anything, at all.

While it would be a nice shot against her she might think it awesome that the interwebs luvz her enuf to make here a meme. To which i would have to snap and go on a murderous rampage via UAV on every FOX building in the world.

Had i ever used a "study" as she describes it i would have flunked the paper.
I still think it'd be worth it =P

Did anyone actually think she would back down? She's on FOX. No one on FOX is ever wrong. Thanks for the condescending reply that still doesn't prove your original point.
