After nearly a week of waiting, Lieberman put out a statement today claiming that her response to demands for evidence was delayed because she'd filed them away on the assumption that "everyone already knew about these studies," and hadn't been able to get to them in a timely fashion because of her "obligations to patients and other professional commitments." Included with the statement were links to her supporting evidence, which included the American Psychological Association's "RapeLay [http://www.apa.org/about/governance/council/policy/interactive-media.pdf].
It should probably be noted that there are in fact two APAs. One of them (American Psychiatric Association) publishes the codex on mental disorders while the other (American Psychological Association) is essentially a paid club with fancy awards.

I dont know what the fuss is about the most sexual scenes Ive seen in games is in the witcher, mass effect, gta 4. Are totally tame by film and tv standards, and you have little to no control over what goes on in them, and its really laughable to call them sex scenes, they make softcore latenight porn shows look like some banned XXX power of over 9000 ,smuggled out of some immoral hole of a town of a hedonistic godless world.

"When the Columbine murders took place, there were national polls where people voted on what they believed caused the two young men to kill. Media violence ranked high on the list, so I, obviously mistakenly, assumed that people still knew about the studies showing this connection - and believed them to have proven the link"

So if something bad happens, and people believe that it is (for example) videogames fault, it proves the study correct?

Ps. She were really condescenting.

Pps. She kinda took a low road, she wants the bloggers (etc.) to mention her sources, but she hadn't mentioned any sources that proves her wrong, like the studies from the Texas A&M international university. We show her sources, (and kinda bash on them,) but she dosen't show ours? (Not even to bash on them?)

It's hard to take middle class white americans like this seriously when numerous times in the past they've persecuted, well, fun.

Her studies are incorrect, they have been proved wrong several times, not only by other studies, but also by simple logic, and statistics, that show a decreasing amount of violence.

How come her studies are correct suddenly? Is it because, dat dem studies are on da teevee? Da teevee never lies...

This stupid ***** pretty much fits in well with the idiocy Faux Noise spreads so its really no surprise that she's taking the "block out incoming arguments and state she is fair and balanced" like they do.

it really is utterly sickening that there are so many idiots in America that follow that horse shit of a "news" channel.

If she's so freaking smart I want to see scholarly article by this lady. I want to see a "Works Cited" page, my 12 year old cousin knows this stuff already. Do doctors and specialists actually write peer-reviewed articles? If someone knows of any please send me some links.

Great... I just made the connection. "Media Psychiatrist" is just a fanciful term for "Spin Doctor". Just enough education in psychology to know what questions to ask, but the rest going to media manipulation to get 'credible' news sources to gobble it up and spit it back into our mouths.

10/10 to Dr. Carole Lieberman. We've all been trolled.
But she cant troll! thats a term used by people that play games, and make memes, if she trolled people, she could easily become a rapist!

Huh... Apparently to her a "national poll" counts as a "study."
ROIGHT! Well then I'm going to have a "national poll" over the cuteness of bunnies and then call it a study!

I R DOKTOR NAO.
Your avatar mixed with that last line made me lol IRL so hard xD

But yeah, this lady clearly has no idea what the hell she is talking about.
This "apology" reminds me of Jessi Slaughter and her "plea" for trolls to stop trolling; all it does is make things worse.

See? She has personal experience with the media turning people into rapists! All the proof she'll ever need.

Ps. shes still wrong, and she dosent know what shes talking about.

Also, this ***** is not likely to be listened to beyond morons with no political power. Stop thinking this ***** will make a difference, she won't. She most likely represents a very small, stupid minority.
Ah, but that's the scary part. It tends to go that the most vocal group, minority or not, gets the most reaction. If you cry wolf loud enough and point at trampled grass, surely some people will believe it was a wolf and it will spread out from there. It doesn't matter how stupid or unfounded the claims are... Someone in the right place is bound to believe there really was a wolf and put everything they can into getting something done about it.

I know there are some professional studies about that phenomenon somewhere around here. Let me check the old file cabinet and get back to you on it.
Yeah, it does scare me that people listen to these morons. But the main point of my post was for us at the escapist to not lose faith in all of humanity EVERY time it happens.

I believe that some politicians bash on games, because it is an easy topic.
A politician can just say "games are bad, and they should be illegal," and BOOM he just got one thousand voters.

So she just "assumed" we'd know about all the studies supporting her point?

Is that anything like how we assumed she should've known that even more studies show the opposite, and that rape rates have been decreasing over the last ten years?

I LOVE how she avoided the fact that her book is about as senseless as her claims.

I can see the new amazonbombs now: "Well, I was was going to give my negative opinion on this book but I figured that everyone has read it and knows how bad it is so I tossed my sources on an open fire fueled by my ego""
Haha, that would be quite a good amazon bomb =)

WHAT THE FUCK!? You claim to be a professional! In what way does a group of people, who's knowledge of the tragedy comes entirely from network news, saying "I think it was video games" constitute proof that it WAS the cause?

Why do people listen to FOX news anyway?
isnt it just "Democrats are dum"
and "thats left wing propaganda"
and if it isn't that, then some kind of fuel for the republicans?

Honestly? I don't think there's much we can do besides wait for these kind of people to just die and hope that our/next generation will have a different mind set.

Now someone just needs to make an "Ignore evidence to the contrary" Lieberman meme in the style of advice dog...
While it would be a nice shot against her she might think it awesome that the interwebs luvz her enuf to make here a meme. To which i would have to snap and go on a murderous rampage via UAV on every FOX building in the world.

Had i ever used a "study" as she describes it i would have flunked the paper.
I still think it'd be worth it =P
