"Games Cause Rape" Psychiatrist Defends Her Position

After nearly a week of waiting, Lieberman put out a statement today claiming that her response to demands for evidence was delayed because she'd filed them away on the assumption that "everyone already knew about these studies," and hadn't been able to get to them in a timely fashion because of her "obligations to patients and other professional commitments." Included with the statement were links to her supporting evidence, which included the American Psychological Association's "RapeLay [http://www.apa.org/about/governance/council/policy/interactive-media.pdf].

It should probably be noted that there are in fact two APAs. One of them (American Psychiatric Association) publishes the codex on mental disorders while the other (American Psychological Association) is essentially a paid club with fancy awards.

I dont know what the fuss is about the most sexual scenes Ive seen in games is in the witcher, mass effect, gta 4. Are totally tame by film and tv standards, and you have little to no control over what goes on in them, and its really laughable to call them sex scenes, they make softcore latenight porn shows look like some banned XXX power of over 9000 ,smuggled out of some immoral hole of a town of a hedonistic godless world.

Her studies are incorrect, they have been proved wrong several times, not only by other studies, but also by simple logic, and statistics, that show a decreasing amount of violence.

Ah, but that's the scary part. It tends to go that the most vocal group, minority or not, gets the most reaction. If you cry wolf loud enough and point at trampled grass, surely some people will believe it was a wolf and it will spread out from there. It doesn't matter how stupid or unfounded the claims are... Someone in the right place is bound to believe there really was a wolf and put everything they can into getting something done about it.

Yeah, it does scare me that people listen to these morons. But the main point of my post was for us at the escapist to not lose faith in all of humanity EVERY time it happens.
