Guys... guys, guys, guys...

"fox news"

haven't we yet learned to expect utter, lunatic-spec bullshit once those words come into play?
All further explanation or discussion is like trying to find meaning in the babblings of a madman.

Right now if you'll excuse me I'm off to go play GTA for a while then head out for an invigorating evening of rape and ultraviolence on the streets of jolly old london.

I wonder how people end up being this ignorant, I really do.

I know theres people of various ages on this lovely community, and I wonder if age has anything to do with the transformation into a monster, seems that when people hit a certain age, they get a stiffy for ruining peoples fun for no reason at all with no evidence, then continue to make up stories and 'facts' to support their crusade.

Jack Thompson was his name, wasn't it? Anyone remember if he was old and gray?

Maybe is the color gray, like gray hairs, that sets them off?

Who knows...

So Columbine's shooters were "inspired by" violent video games, and so violent video games inspire school shootings?

Correction: Columbine's shooters were inspired by the Oklahoma City bombing, and literal psychopathy was the biggest reason for the shooting.

I could understand if some idiotic average actor trying to pass as an expert made a BS claim like this regarding Columbine, but this is someone with an MD that specializes in psychology and psychiatry. She doesn't have an excuse. She might say "the polls indicated this," but if she's any sort of a scientist whatsoever, /especially/ a media psychologist, she probably should also know that what most people think is mostly influenced by the news they watch, and this news isn't always correct.

All in all, she's proved she doesn't do her research very well, she is unable to overcome her bias, she bases the bulk of her conclusions on her own opinions, and she's got a skewed view of the media (which she's supposed to be an expert in). In the work she's done attempting to re-credit herself and her BS claims, she's practically proven that she's the exact opposite of an expert.

Isn't that picture from the Halo parody commercial for the game? And not the actual game?
It's Fox News, that pretty much sums it up...

Just going to throw this out there, as a female, reading/hearing her pathetic claims makes me want to rape someone out of sheer RAGE.

"Sorry I didn't have sources, I assumed everyone already knew them already, here let me throw some inconclusive studies together last minute that don't support my claim, but it is somewhat relevant (Read: Would come up on the first page of a google search)."

I-I just...Just give me a few hours. My brain can only process so much wrong at one time.

When the Columbine murders took place, there were national polls where people voted on what they believed caused the two young men to kill. Media violence ranked high on the list, so I, obviously mistakenly, assumed that people still knew about the studies showing this connection - and believed them to have proven the link."

WHAT?! You are using a national poll as evidence that video games cause violence. All that really proves is that people (who are inherently stupid) have listened to your verbose prattling for far too long. As impressionable creatures people like to latch onto any argument as long as the person making it can draw any similarity between their argument and actual reality. I can't wait for the day when people like this have finished dying off and the media industry can be free from these yammering know-it-alls.

There is no defense there is either a gray area where the individual has to make a choice or anything that gains mass belief or opinion is dangerous and harmful to the public! Such as the bible, do it your self books and her book.....

Huh... Apparently to her a "national poll" counts as a "study."
ROIGHT! Well then I'm going to have a "national poll" over the cuteness of bunnies and then call it a study!

I R DOKTOR NAO.
well bunnies are cute. Also how does media violance explain anything? what is media violance, is it the video games, the MEDIA, or some other 3rd thing?

so in other words she's a cook. GO figure a crackpot on Fox, never seen that before.
She can prepare delicious foodstuffs? I fail to see how that's relevant to the article and discussion.

"I have worked in the area of media violence for many years. This included testifying before Congress on the issue, doing numerous media interviews, stopping the 'Schwarzenegger rocket' that was to have had an ad for Last Action Hero on it, being invited to contribute an essay on video game violence to Larry King's book Beyond A Reasonable Doubt, etc.
This drives me absolutely bonkers. She rattles off media accolades like they were professional or academic recognition! I wonder if she really can't see the difference.

Hun dosen't matter how violent we make video games, your not getting any any time soon. On a more serious note :D personal opinion does not count as fact, Study and poll are two very different Things . Just because 90 percent of my school thinks that jimmy hendrix is the current P.M of France does not make it fact. Dam, are these people so anxious to ban video games that they throw their own education and reputation on the line.
