Clearly someone forgot a deadline and quickly had to scribble something up 2 hours before they had to hand it over to their boss. That's the only reason they'd chose something that hasn't been edgey since 1970.

Either that or they're trying to pander to an audience too stupid to realize how over used that joke is.

This isn't really that sexist. You know what would be sexist? If the sign said 'Stop looking at this fucking sign and get back to the kitchen, woman.' But it just makes a girlfriend joke, I don't really see how that is "discrimination".

"Listen, it's not sexist. It simply states that buying a game at this price is cheaper than taking a woman out on several dates, buying her meals, gifts and things.... you dumb bint."

not fair. if it was an ad aimed at women, one that made men look stupid or dirty or whatever else, nobody would have a problem with it.

we have a double standard on our hands, gentlemen...

It's not sexist. It doesnt imply that women are cheap. Talk about missing the point OP. It means that women are expensive and the game is cheap. *Facepalms*
As if it's any better?

I'm struggling to think of an example of a good advert, they're either ridiculous or easily ignored...which would defeat the point. They're just entertainment products, you know?
:D
Unless you were only talking about games, in which case... no, I got no examples.
Robert Carlyle is a seriously charismatic guy, and that was masterfully performed.

As good as that is, it doesn't represent the beast that is everyday advertising, which is normally a 20 second long assault.

The irony of all this is that the ad implies that Gamestations core customer base have girlfriends.

Gamestation have now realised that gamers often have girlfriends, I'd chalk that down as progress. In another 10 years they may catch on that some females like to play games as well.

this is disgusting. whether or not the ad is sexist, is debatable. it could mean that having a girlfriend or boyfriend gets expensive but the used games arent. my immediate interpretation was, however, that it was implying that youre girlfriend is cheap but the games are even more cheap.

the ad doesnt bother me half as much as this thread, however. it seems like the majority of the people here are using this girls possible overreaction, as an excuse to make sexist comments. i thought the escapist was more tolerant and mature than that

In all honesty, this is about as offensive as saying "I'm wearing a black T shirt", maybe a little bit more, but when I say little, I mean microscopic.
People are offended far too easily.

It's actually kinda funny, even to me.

Of course, the whiner brigade shows up and tries to ruin everyone's fun.

God I hate our species.
really? You hate our species as we want some equality? My apologies if you're a girl (you're avatar is relatively ambiguous), but I know many girls who would take offence at this, and I would take offence at this about the way it talks about my girlfriend. It's an add that belittles one gender for the pleasure of another, and while there are many women who would not mind this (more power to them), there are also many who are offended by it, and as such, I wouldn't exactly call it appropriate.

Also, isn't it great how many of us strive to make this medium an art form, and then we have needless setbacks like this. Thanks gamestation, you make us proud
