It appears bananas is another one of those words that trigger the most insufferably unimaginative types of pun-obsessed writers, along with cats, dogs, bears and cheese.Yes, you read that headline correctly: a boss in Elden Ring has been beaten using an actual banana.
Not content with playing through Elden Ring with a Ring Fit Adventure controller, streamer Super Louis 64 is now playing through the game using a banana controller.
So far he's even managed to beat Godrick without slipping up, one of the game's early bosses that many players have struggled with.
Let's peel back the method. Essentially, a bunch of bananas are hooked up to a PC and linked to a single input when pressed. There are four bananas for movement, a jump banana, an attack banana, etc.
It's also not new for Elden Ring - Super Louis 64 is known for playing games with whacky homemade controllers. He previously played through Dark Souls 3 in 2017 with the same setup (he's since changed his name).
Since then, he's done Dark Souls with bananas, a Ring Fit controller, and even DK Bongos.
Between this, sub-50 minute speedruns, so-called cheesing techniques, and selling runes on eBay, the Elden Ring community has truly gone bananas.
My heart's racing. Palms are sweaty as I grip the controller in anticipation. My sign is down, but will my dealer turn up? Or will my cash be wasted?
Then the screen turns to black: I have been summoned.
A quick look on eBay is enough to see that runes are being sold for actual, real-life money. Runes - like souls in the Dark Souls games - are the currency of Elden Ring. They allow you to level up your character, or buy items and equipment. Now you can buy them on the black market.
In actuality, what you're buying is the promise of a trip to another world in the game's slightly convoluted summoning mechanic to pick up a pile of Golden Runes, an item that can be used to gain runes ready to spend. Prices that Eurogamer has seen range from a fiver for a million runes, all the way up to around £60 for 20m runes.
After making my purchase on eBay (£11 for 2m runes), it's down to the seller to contact me with details and summon me into their game where they, presumably, will be waiting, Golden Runes in hand.
Without a physical product to send to me - postage, thankfully, is listed as free - is there any guarantee I'll receive my prize? Or is this all just an elaborate scam?
The process itself was easy enough. The seller contacted me. We exchanged a password, a time, and a location for the sordid deal. I laid down my summoning sign and waited.
I feel like I'm meeting a drug dealer.
Thankfully, they upheld their end of the bargain. Entering their world, a quick spin of their character and I follow them to a pile of gold awaiting me. A few celebratory jumps and I'm booted out, back to my own Lands Between 2m runes richer.
Here I am, a fresh Vagabond with over two million runes to spend.
Was it worth it? No.
I'm not one to cheat - especially not in this form - so I created a new character especially for this personal quest. With my newly acquired runes I swiftly levelled up from 9 to 94, boosting my Vagabond's strength stat from 14 up to 99.
I then sauntered over to the Tree Sentinel - the first major boss enemy you encounter - expecting an easy battle. But, of course, levelling in Elden Ring isn't quite that simple. Despite my high strength, my starter equipment was too basic to scale up and make the most of my new stats.
What's more, each level up costs exponentially more runes. The final instance left me with a huge excess of runes it'll take far too long to add to at the start of the game and there's no way to bank them.
Worse, as with all Souls games, die and you risk losing those runes if you're unable to recollect them. All that hard-earned cash, wasted.
Tree Sentinel down, but with too many runes in excess to use.
Buying the runes, then, was far from a quick win - you're still required to play the game, learn the systems, and gain better equipment.
Instead this is just scammers preying on the game's high difficulty to make a quick buck.
If you're wondering how they do it, there is an item duplication exploit from Dark Souls 3 that works the same in Elden Ring, allowing an infinite number of high level items that are now being sold for real-world profit. But we won't go into that here.
My advice? Don't be fooled! Elden Ring is the most approachable Souls game and there's no one way to play it. But cheaters never, ever, prosper.
Now I'm off for a cold shower. I feel dirty.
A game can never be difficult enough.Banana arts

Difference being that when the RE4 prototype became DMC, Resident Evil still continued to exist as an IP.That's the Capcom method and their old MO. Change in to a new IP, because it's tonaly and plays completely differently. That is how we got Devil May Cry and Haunting Ground. Both were based off of old prototypes of RE4 that never came to be, and thus became their own games. Exoprimal is most likely no different. What was supposed to be a DC game, becomes a new IP. I am actually glad Capcom is bringing back its old ways of making new IPs.
I don't buy the "it's just a videogame" argument. No-one would seriously argue "it's just a book" or "just a movie," I don't see why videogames should be held to a lower standard when it comes to their storytelling. As for the "stupid" vs. "silly" debate, I'll quote Max_Dood: "It's a video gamey ass video game!". Most games back then and even now, did not make much sense in context of why these monsters or weird creatures are there other than to stand out or look cool. This a practice that still goes on, when you stop and think for a few minutes. Nowhere near as much as it used to be, but still can happen.
I'd argue that there IS a different from Dino Crisis though. Dino Crisis is a Prometheus-type story. Everything bad that happens is down to humans messing around with stuff beyond their control. Yes, it brings dinosaurs into the present day, the majority of which are carnivores (for whatever reason), who are insanely aggressive (how many dinos did I kill in DC2? I dread to think), but there's at least the core concept, however rote, of "you messed around with nature, now suffer the consequences." It's hardly Jurassic Park, but it's still got the same conceptual nugget.Don't question it, or think too hard. Who knows where the dinosaurs are coming from? For all we know, these are dinosaurs from some alternate dimension being cloned for some dumb reason. It's nothing more than a bare thread excuse to kill dinosaurs and cool looking reptiles. No different from Dino Crisis, and especially no different from the Monster Hunter franchise.
I know.....Difference being that when the RE4 prototype became DMC, Resident Evil still continued to exist as an IP.
I mean, I've never been a big Dino Crisis fan, but it strikes me as a wasted opportunity.
I am not talking about being held to a "low standard". From what I am seeing, Exoprimal is video game that is not afraid nor ashamed to be a video game. No different from classic Devil May Cry. Don't get me wrong, DMC is way more structured in story and reason by comparison, but it's embracement that counts.I don't buy the "it's just a videogame" argument. No-one would seriously argue "it's just a book" or "just a movie," I don't see why videogames should be held to a lower standard when it comes to their storytelling.
That is fine and all. I never said it could not be criticized, and the lack of story does not bother me either. Honestly, I wanna see what wacked story scenario they cooked up for this for the laughs.Of course, it's probably a moot point to criticize Exoprimal's story, when as far as I can tell, it's not really attempting one, but even so, I'd argue the point remains. Even if a game's backstory is, well, all backstory for instance, if the backstory doesn't make sense, then it's fair grounds.
You're not wrong, but at the end of the day, it's to bring context to the horror. This was the era of when Shinji Mikami was in charge of producing, and story was usually a means to an end, or not the most important factor to a video game at the time for Capcom. Ever since RE1, Mikami was all about "I want cool monster or creatures in my game!". DC1 and DC2 is no different in that regard. DC2 especially. DC2 is basically RE3's mercenary mode and proto, guns only, DMC1 as a full game.I'd argue that there IS a different from Dino Crisis though. You are over thinking it. There is thin line between "silly" and "stupid" I stopped caring about years ago for the most part. Sometimes it's best just to have fun, and see where the game goes.Yes, I'm probably thinking about it too much, but still, we're in "stupid" rather than "silly" territory.
Only if you ignore the presence of the global trade network that Pokémon has. Collectors and long time tragics - myself for instance - buy both games because it’s what we do. However as kids my mum bought both because I had a younger brother and it meant we could have our own games. Possibly this logic continues to prevail since one concession to modernity Pokémon has not embraced (to my knowledge) and should, is multiple save files per cart. And believe me, as a parent, buying both games is a viable strategy to prevent arguments over who owns the game and whose turn is it and he wiped my game etc ad infinitum. So they're going back to the double-game scam? "If you wanna catch 'em all, gotta buy 'em both!"
I completely forgot this was a thing. When did they announce this thing again? We havent heard a peep out of it since the reveal iirc.Perfect Dark is in trouble
Announced in 2020.I completely forgot this was a thing. When did they announce this thing again? We havent heard a peep out of it since the reveal iirc.
Oh that isnt even that long then. For some reason i thought it was revealed pre pandemic. Covid has made everything feel like forever.Announced in 2020.
I hope it’s been a smoother experience for PC players after the rough patch (no pun). Can’t complain on PS4, but will probably get it on PC eventually during a Steam sale.

WWHHHAAATTTT???? Putting actual effort and time into creating a single player game gets better sales and reception? But I thought EA said these weren't profitable, and I turst EA! /s
I've been playing PC with a slightly better then min GPU and a bit better on CPU and RAM. Honestly not having any notable gameplay issues. Apparently my graphics are set to high by the game. Game takes a moment to boot up but once it does it's quite responsive.I hope it’s been a smoother experience for PC players after the rough patch (no pun). Hard game needs easy mode or it wont sell. Accessiblity!!!!!!

It would seem it's how the game loads data given the larger world, on an engine that's been duct taped quite a bit over the years. Could also be drivers or something not kosher with the latest DX. Would be interesting to see HDD vs SSD comparisons too.I've been playing PC with a slightly better then min GPU and a bit better on CPU and RAM. Honestly not having any notable gameplay issues. So happy about that. I know a lot of other people have had horror stories about how bad it is or complaints about stuttering. I don't know if those people are trying to run in super high graphical settings or not.
