Please. Origins felt like it was a good size for it's content. Odyssey and Valhalla(from reputation), OTOH.......
I think Odyssey was okay in size too, because a lot of the map was just ocean so if you squeezed the land together it wasn't THAT big. It felt bigger due to the water imo.

Odyssey for me was the perfect, "oh i just wanna fuck around in a world for an hour" game.

I have wierd mixed feelings about Odyessy. I love fucking around in Ancient Greece(or at least a simulation of ancient greece) and sailing around. OTOH, the level gating is irrirating and the 3 plots are stretched willy nilly all over the map. Also, the true end to the Atlantis plot is locked behind 30 hours of DLC.

It's a game I really enjoyed and yet really don't want to go through again. If I want to sink so much time into a huge world, RDR2 calls to me a lot more since the story is meatier at the center of the Open world exploration.

I just want them to be on steam tbh...

But yeah smaller scale would be nice, greece was just way too big for nothing (very nice though, loved walking around the island). I'd also would like it if they moved away from level altogether, keep the skill tree and instead have new skill point obtained from doing activity around the world. But I hate going trough a million piece of loot every time I walk outside and I actually stoped playing it when I reached level 50 and realize that it wasn't the level cap anymore because of the atlantis DLC (evn though I didn't own it) I was really looking forward to be level cap...

TLOU Part 1 "Remake" reviews are coming in:

Common praises:
  • The game actually do look nice
  • New accessibility and performance features
  • The story is still pretty good
  • The audio is still amazing
  • Great for the first-timers
Common critiques:
  • If you played it, the game might not be worth the $70 at launch
  • Due to the way Part 1 was designed, ND's effort to bring its gameplay close to that of part 2's doesn't quite get there
  • While Remake does look nice, The PS4 Remaster still holds up
  • FPS drops can happen

So you know I can now confrim that this was in fact a cash grab, but also not a cash grab. I'm fucking confused to be honest. Because the amount of work in the graphics update looks genuinely insane....maybe? I dont know how much work simply pre-existed from TLOU2 development and that engine. The graphics look great and it's hard to really argue that.

But at the same time they made zero effort on the gameplay. Naughty Dog's been using the same gunplay system since Uncharted 1 it feels and even when game have slight improvements it's not really noticable or good enough to matter. Here the game feels shakier and worse outright than TLOU2 and I don't understand why they just didn't use TLOU2's combat system in this remake. It would have improved things, while not straying too far from the original game. It just feels like they transfered Part 1's code into Part 2's engine and called it a day in terms of the gameplay. Which comes across as incredibly lazy.

So it's a tale of two sides in that graphically it does look like a crazy good next gen game. But it plays like a PS3 game because under all the shiny graphics it basically still is a PS3 game.

Frankly the market for this game has to be very small right? First you need to have a Playstation 5 which is not yet massively everyone but still several million people. Then you also need to have NEVER played TLOU. Like full stop, that's the only way this game makes sense for you to buy it. Maybe you didn't have a PS3 or 4 or simply didn't care about this game when it came out because zombies are pretty boring now, but you want something shiny to play on your new PS5. Then and ONLY then could I see this being a justified buy.....though maybe even then wait for the price drop.

I like TLOU1 but this package coming out just makes me mad and sad.

I mean, if you had the game on PS3 but wanted to play it again but your PS3 doesn't work anymore, I could see that. But then again, it was on PS4 and you could have just gotten that version instead and PS4's are not hard to get last I checked. My PS3 is broke so if I wanted to play it again, I'd have to emulate it or get one of the re-releases. Not that I'm THAT into TLOU, considering I haven't been interested enough to pick up TLOU2.

Wait, is this just gonna be GTAV/Skyrim where they just keep re-releasing it to sate people in the long periods between anything new coming out? "You like this game huh? Well, good news, we're gonna keep trying to sell it to you again and again because clearly you like it so much"-Rockstar/Bethesda/Probably Sony.

I mean at least with GTA they added Online, and that online gets regular updates so you DO get a little extra continued development for the new versions.

Skyrim is worse because they don't even update the graphics on skyrim so at least TLOU has THAT going for it. Skyrim doesn't charge full price for re-releases though so.....

Is it true that there's bugs in Skyrim from the original release that still exist in the latest release? I've heard as much but being one of the five remaining people on Earth who has never played a moment of skyrim(the other four might be penguins and thus don't have the ability to hold a controller), I don't know for sure.

Yes. Bethesda does not fix their games, they simply release them because the modders will "just work" and fix the issues.

Probably because they'd have to completely re-rig Joel's character animation for that, along with the level lay-out, and enemy attack paterns. The Last of Us Part 1 is basically 'how can we change as much as possible without fundamentally changing anything'. Because there are actually a lot of changes besides the graphics, they're just small. Levels are slightly tweeked, with some of the "dead air" dressed up or cut, and some of the cutscenes are reframed. It feels like a beefy remaster with some remixed elements sprinkled here and there.

It exists in a weird space, because I don't think fans would genuinely want this game to actually be remade - they like the characters and the character beats too much as is. But by re-remastering it it feels like they're not changing enough to warrant it, so we get something that has a lot of changes to it but not genuine changes. It actually feels like it's somehow perfect for fans of the game that have played it multiple times, since they're they ones who will pick up on the numerous little changes and aditions to levels and cutscenes.

Then the argument becomes, would there even be any discussion over this if it only cost 30-40 bucks?

I think $70 for this is raw greed flat out considering the team at ND threw this together in about 18 months give or take, because it does piggy back off the work of TLOU2, and that engine. So any declaration of this remake being in the works since late TLOU2 development is likely bull, as it couldn't have happened any earlier than practically launch when you factor in the reports of terrible crunch at ND. Maybe some of the art team or engine people where fucking around with TLOU1 code in the new engine and some boss said, "Sweet let's do that shit too."

I think the most sensible story is that it was a way for them to get used to what the PS5 could do while also giving new developers (that are replacements for all the ones who left after the crunch of TLoU2) an easier project to step into. It's similar to Nintendo making Wind Waker HD to train their developers to work in high definition.

It shouldn't have cost 70 dollars, but then neither should Demon Souls for the PS5. I think the reaction to The Last of Us Part 1 and its pricing has a lot to do with the bad blood Naughty Dog has set with TLoU2. Had that game been generally regarded highly this re-remaster wouldn't have been received quite as bitterly. Probably not at all really. And I can say that because that's pretty much how I initially felt (and still somewhat do) about this new release; remaking the first game that I loved, but which was ruined by the sequel. As if to rub salt in my wounds.

Demon Souls for the PS5.
I don't wanna shill, but I'm gonna. Demon's Souls at least didn't have a Ps4 version on top of that. TLOU1 was already remastered, and has existed on every console generation since it's original release. Same at least can't be said about Demon's Souls and on top of that, Demon's Soul was very niche when it came out so a huge portion of people were playing it for the first time which also doesn't apply to the box office smash hit that TLOU was.

The Last of Us Part 1 and its pricing has a lot to do with the bad blood Naughty Dog has set with TLoU2.
This is probably very true. Sell a piece of shit, then turn around and sell the thing people liked back at them for a bit of double/triple dipping.

I don't know if I agree with that much. Maybe if the Ps4 version wasn't a thing, then I could see that being an argument for sure. But having the TLOU1 and 2 both on basically the same system, and then trying to remake 1 to look like 2 and charge $70 bucks again is a bit too brass imo even if TLOU2 was a banger. Now I'm sad that TLOU2 sucked.

Yeah, but it was also an old game that got a remaster and was sold back at 70 dollars.

No, I meant the negative reaction to The Last of Us Part 1 being in response to TLoU2.

Shadow of the Colossus was in a similar boat. We got a remaster on PS3 bundled with a remaster of Ico, then 4 or 5 years later we get another much more extensive remaster on PS4 without Ico but still priced the same. I think there was even initially some grumblings from PS3 owners that it wasn't going to see a release on their system. But seeing as that game and developer hadn't pissed away its goodwill people were generally positive toward it despite a third release quite close to the first remaster.

It could also just be a case of people being tired of this practice, with the 70 dollar price tag as a flick to the nose.
