Beat Pokémon, beat Dragon Quest, it's wild just how popular these squidkids are.

I'm curious what it would take to get close to that popularity over here
It's like Nintendo's version of Call of Duty. I mean you could show me gameplay of all three Splatoons side by side and I could not tell you the different between any fucking one of them. Much the same way i couldn't tell a CoD apart without a jumppack or some shit.

The reason why Splatoon is more popular over in Japan compared to the West, is the emphasis on teamwork while there are plenty of Splatoon fans in the United States & Europe. Imi America especially; you had a lot of people who are trying to play it like it was Call of Duty (solo everything or just expect the other team members to do most of the work) or they didn't work well with the team at all. This was really noticeable when the original game launched. When the sequels came out, more people knew what to expect or adapted.

Well I'm glad they are enjoying it. I'm sure we'll see many more Splatty's to come as well.

Oh...wait AC is going to Japan? Ugh Ghost of Tsushima already beat them to it, that's gonna be a wack move Ubisoft.
Why let being late to the party stop them? We're talking about Ubi here. They've been sitting on Skull and Bones for Almost a decade.

Oh wait, they couldn't figure out how to make Black Flag 2.0 somehow. Same difference.

...have I misunderstood the EA Originals program, or did they change it while I wasn't looking?

My understanding was that EA Originals was titles of studios independent of EA, whose development was funded by EA, and whose profit went to EA until they had their initial investment cleared and afterwards went back to the developer itself (meaning EA would in the best of worlds make zero (0) dollars), and EA allowed for a great deal of creative freedom. The reason they do this I am merely speculating about, but it ought to be to foster a future partnerships, get insight in the sales data on what sells, make EA Origin customers, create goodwill and make additional games exist. Partnering with an internal studio of a competing publisher sounds made to ensure they'll just turn to their own label for future partnerships.

The program has been running for 6 years at this point, so they must be thinking it is worth more than it costs.

On the other hand, looking over Koei Tecmo's output they are relatively small fish.

I also think I should mention: It Takes Two is one title that is part of the EA Originals program, a game that has won several awards and which has sold over 7 million units, and was a big hit in China.

Babylon's Fall closing shop a day shy of 1 year after release. The 4.1 people still playing it sometimes will be devastated.

With BF's death, a new and better chapter for Platinum will begin.

I knew about this move, and I was not even offended. There were already jokes about it. It's move that can be done on anyone, including in a mirror match. I find this dumb and unecessary.
