I find it ironic that he mentions the sun. I have a theory that the sun IS God, since all major religions can trace their routes to the most basic of religions, the worship of the sun. And it kind of makes sense in both spiritual and scientific sense, since the sun is undisputably the most powerful entity in our solar system.

Anyway, I find some of his stuff funny, although I do not take his views seriously. Also, some of his comedy is too crude for my liking, beacuse I do not think profanity is a necessary component of comedy. But I respect that that was simply his style and that he would not have been as good of a comedian without it.

Sorry to burst your bubble mate but the sun is just a star surrounded by stars, a relatively small star compared to others, see for yourself.

Yes but you said you have a theory that the sun is god, god is supposedly in charge of the universe last I checked?

You mean his jokes? I never got the impression that he was being serious when he said things like "ever notice how all the women who oppose abortion, you wouldn't want to fuck in the first place?" (Or whatever the line was)
Yeah, I laughed at jokes like that, but then awkwardly stuttered when he started talking about his government views and how the media controlls everyone.

I particularly liked his rants on almost everything and anything he could rip from human culture and society. Not the best I've heard, but certainly one of the best.

Would you like to know why there aren't a lot of huge British comics, THEY AREN'T THAT FUNNY! Most of them aren't funny in the slightest, like that clip you posted. It's not funny, that's why he's on BBC and not Comedy Central.

Mother of Mercy, junior! Get to YouTube, check out some of these guys, and see if that doesn't change your opinion.
You left out Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry.

It could be that British humour is a little too sophisticated for his tastes. There is a preference for substance here, merely saying "fuck" over and over doesn't cut it. I get the feeling it is like this across the world though, hence the reason there is generally a flow of comedians from the UK to the USA, without the reverse happening.

Michael McIntyre, the guy in the vid, has had the fastest selling debut DVD [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_McIntyre] for a stand up comedian ever.
1. You don't mention Stephen Fry. It is automatically assumed that Stephen Fry occupies the highest point of any list, in any category, at ANY time.

2. Hmm..your "fuck" theory has merit. It might explain the popularity of the AVGN. Or could just be an age-demographic thing.

3. Micheal McIntyre is always fun.

Because Comedy Central is the bright and shining beacon of funny? ...No.

Anyway, still a shame to see him gone, I would have loved to see his material about the economy going in to shit.
They ain't been on HBO either. Those are the 2 big comedy outlets in the US, you want stand-up you go first to HBO, then to Comedy Central. HBO will only show people who are already big, Comedy Central shows the lesser known people. They show British comedians occasionally, but those are already big in the US through some other venue (like a TV show or a movie.)

Did he just say Comedy Central as though it was "the place" all comedians aspire to go to? I was led to believe that most of the comedians there are absolutely awful.

Where was Sarah Silverman's program based again?

The only regret is that I caught a special he did back in 2004 and I wasn't following him closer. I bought his "All my Stuff" collection and from morning till night one saturday I learned why so many people enjoyed, learned and even has been moved by his comdey.

He made me laugh and think at the same time. Few do that these day's and I personally enjoyed it.

I have no idea.

I am guessing you live in the UK. Personally I don't find much good on comedy central compared to Dave. South Park is great, but the rest of it I think is a bit crappy such as Two and a half men, The US version of The Office (compare it to the UK version), Scrubs (compare to The Green Wing), etc. Dave is far more entertaining on the whole.

I know. That is why I said it was the most powerful entity in our solar system.
Yes but you said you have a theory that the sun is god, god is supposedly in charge of the universe last I checked?
Yes, supposedly. But when all these religions were born, did anyone really know that there was a whole universe outside our world? Heck, the Bible states that God put all those stars up in one day, which would mean that he created the rest of the universe in a single day. If that is the case, why did it take him 5 more days to create Earth? Is Earth really the only planet in the universe that can support life?

Besides, I never said that the theory fits all religious beliefs and theories. Afterall, a lot of those beliefs and theories were made under the impression that God was a person....a he or a she, not an it. So of course you could find many things that do not fit. For example, the Ten Commandments. How could the sun state those if it cannot talk....or have a will for that matter?

The main point I was trying to make is that since many comparisons can be drawn between all major religions and the basic worship of the sun, almost all gods were very likely created as a consenquence of the worship of the sun. So if the worship of God stems from the worship of the sun, that makes the sun, in a sense, God. But that is not saying much, since you could say that the sun is Allah/Zeus/Ra/Jupiter/Apollo or whatever other god you can think of.

Of course, you are free to disagree with me. Afterall, it is just a theory.

Yes, McIntyre's scholarly foray into human psychology does indeed go beyond the intellect and sophistication of most of mankind.
Not only is McIntyre a genius and in all likelihood the herald of the Second Coming, but he doesn't offend anyone with his talk of pens, which is especially important for a comedian.

...

If Carlin's routines aren't anything but repeated fucks in your view, then you simply haven't been paying attention.

I think you are mistaken in your belief that the opinions of a few people on this forum constitutes "most of mankind". Maybe getting out more would help?

It could be possible that you misread my post, and didn't notice how I qualified the "most of mankind" by saying "I get the feeling it is like this across the world though, hence the reason there is generally a flow of comedians from the UK to the USA, without the reverse happening."

Mortagog said:

It is important for a comedian to be able to pick a topic which is funny and which everyone can relate to. Relating to a Carlin routine is difficult because frankly my life is easy enough that I don't feel horrified distain towards other human beings. This is probably the reason he never did a stand up in front of more than a few hundred or so people, as opposed to the three and a half thousand McIntyre managed to pack into the Apollo five nights in a row, or the half a million he performed for on his UK tour.
Mortagog said:

I have - maybe you should pay more attention. Find me a routine of his which wasn't simply a rant of some kind or other directed at some group of human beings he doesn't particularly like, and then I will re-examine my position.

I like to think of the sun as a combination of hydrogen, helium, iron, oxygen, carbon and neon, but hey to each his own... at least your theory is more fun than mine

Its also very bright apparently
