My friend bought the original Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands. Then, when the Ubi servers were still down many, many days after the release, he just pirated it without a a shame, and I couldn't really blame him for that.
Another example - when Half Life 2 hit the shelves in 2004, not that many people had an internet in their homes, at least in Poland. So I wasn't even a little bit surprised, when so many of my friends (even those who already saved the money to buy the original) looked for an 'alternative way' to play it without Steam.
So as you can see - yeah it happens.
Thanks to those example above - I agree with this statement. Pirate will just wait for a crack on the internet, then shamelessly download it and won't have to deal with any problems. It is the legit consumer, who'll have to deal with all the bullcrap, the developer came up with to protect it from piracy. Also it never worked, and probably never will.
