Hmmm...

De mortuis nil nisi bonum..
Dont speak ill of the dead...

While this is the motto of those that instigate this kind of stupid shit, its good to remember that the common man is smart enough to know that these kind of statements are ridiculous...
When a person or group of people want to lampoon something for not following their unwritten motto's, thats not Pro-American, thats fascism. And yes, its probably true that im looking too deeply into this, but still...I think enough time has passed since WW2 that we dont need men in shiny shoes pointing out every little thing that dosent absolutely sympathize with their Pro-American ideologies. Dont pester the lives of the living for those who are dead.

Hmph

Sic transit gloria mundi...

Wow, I feel like an American (turning up to the thread late)

But I must reiterate (and drive my post count up) WTF do you put up for a Google Images D-Day thing? Perhaps spelling "Google" out in bunkers on the beach?

The complainer in this situation is an idiot.

Google is not a place to remember honored war veterans. Go somewhere else if you want remembrance.

It's obvious that D-Day was a crucial point in WW2, and that it should be honored accordingly, but should Google also have a special logo for the 9th of September ? WW2 was a tragic period in the history of mankind, but there are other ways to comemorate those events.

In Romania, we had a series of great battles at Marasesti. But should Google set up a logo for those who died ? One might claim that D-Day was a key moment to winning the war and is thus more important that other war efforts, but you really can't judge based on that. Marasesti is a lot more important to my country than any other battle in WW2, and of course nobody besides we here in Romania would care if Google were to set up a logo on that.

Tetris in an international, neutral, logic game. It effects the world, because anyone can relate to it. Even aliens could play it, and then it would be universal. Happy 25th Anniversary Tetris !

Its got nothing to do with importance, its to do with relevance. Google is an internet site that is for ALL audiences, from 10-100. Tetris is a more casual thing that people can laugh at, how would you do a D-Day logo thats family friendly and not offend veterans etc? TBH they were smart to stay out of the topic completly and anyone that trys to say their anti american should be ashamed of themselves, especially since there were more commonwealth troops that fought in the battle.
If they had done a logo that covered all of the contries that were involved and kept it family friendly then it would have been good, but how they could have pulled it off is the question, short of having each letter being the flag of each nation involved?

The day that marked the beginning of the end for Hitler's Third Reich,
Actually, I think you'll find that day was considerably earlier and happened in Russia, I wish westerners could at least give the Soviets their due. Yes communism is bad and the government was repressive and all that, but they still won the war, the allies just came in at the end and claimed much more credit than they deserved.
I don't give them much credit because their primary means of victory was drowning the nazi's in their own blood. They would've been fucked if Hitler didn't have such a boner for destroying everything with Stalin's name on it.
True, but they didn't exactly have a lot of options, the Soviet army wasn't nearly as advanced or as well trained as the Axis forces, all they had (initially) was numbers to throw at them. And regardless of method, if the Soviets had given up we wouldn't have made it far past Normandy.

I'm not saying I agree with their methods, but the Soviets did pretty much win the war single handed. The allies sped up the victory, without them it might have taken the Soviets another six months or maybe a year to win, but they still would have won.

Some people need to get a life... I'd prefer Tetris than 'Google' spelt out in dead bodies of people on a beach for fuck sake.
/sigh dumbass, D-day represents more than just dead people on a beach, it represents the beginning of the end of Hitlers regime.
/sigh dumbass, Holy shit really? Because I had no idea /sarcasm. My point was that to represent D-Day in an image on Google an internet search engine for fuck sake, would be completely tasteless considering it's about an event that killed millions of soldiers.

It's D-Days 65th "anniversary", not a meaningful date in the slightest. 75th, 100th? Fine, they are a quarter of a century apart and have significance.

Get off your fucking pedestal.

Interesting fact: D-Day was not the turning point of the war. That would be the battle of Stalingrad. America joined only because they didn't want russia to conquer all of europe.

/Sigh...

Sometimes I wonder if some people deserve to have a brain. :l
Excuse me, there's an assassination request for Mr. Huston.
...

...

...

Success.

But honestly, why do we need to be reminded of that terrible day? If your ex-girlfriend dumps you on a certain day, and that day comes up, you're not going to want to think about it. I don't want to be reminded that oh, today's the day when your great grandfather was killed by a machine gun while commencing operation Neptune & Overlord. I want to have some happy thoughts, and see cheerful faces! (Yay Tetris!) Not think of death and how evil Hitler was. I have Call of Duty for that.

Sure, D-Day was a landmark and deserve to be celebrated but it's more logic for an internet site to celebrate a computer game.

Also said countless times. It is kind off a partykiller to spell "Google" with blood and rotten corpses.
