This made Me listen to the Tetris theme and realise I will one day drink Russian Vodka while listening to it as a thing to do before I die.

I think it's a refreshing change remembering a videogame over a violent event.

The world doesn't revolve around America. To all the people up in arms over this, I say create your own search engine and cover it in American propaganda.

Jeez. Google isn't just for America, guy who wrote that article bashing them. Why not say that they have a pro-Russian agenda if you say that they're anti-American?

Isn't Google an international company?
I mean really.. Oh boohoo, Google doesn't celebrate the D-day anniversary. What, does every American celebrate Hanukkah? No they don't..

My country is full to the BRIM of jackasses..

Yay for stupidity!
Hooray!

At first I hung my head at this stupidity, then I laughed a bit.

Get off you high horse America, may be uncaring or whatever but to say un-american well thats just stupid in my opinion.
And you are similarly stupid to blame all of America when it's just one conservative dipshit.

My bad. Apparently, it's two.
My point still stands.
Agreed.

More importantly, what were they supposed to do? Use the corpses of soldiers to arrange their letters?
Once again, agreed.

Calling things like this, "anti-american" reminds me of the red scare, and other blots against freedom. It's ridiculous.

OMG Seriously Google probably screwed that one up some guy was probably there saw that tetris was commemorating its 25th year and thought that would be great on the homepage, probably completely forgetting D-Day. Come on D-Day was the most important moment of the twentieth century, but google were hardly being unpatriotic to the U.S. It was a major global event that was made up of many allied nations, if most prominentley the U.S.A, Britain, the Free French and Canada. If you want to really get your blood up have a look at that fascist Nick Griffin putting up the V-sign after his gains in the european elections, as Charlie Brooker so well put it "pissing on the graves of all those who fought and died to oppose his nazi ideology". What kind of idiots are people who forget what so many great people sacrificed to save us from and it makes me ashamed to be British at the moment. Anyway rant over its silly of google but i dont think they were being deliberately antagonistic

Do you know how hard it is to make the google logo out of bulkheads, landing craft and blown off limbs? Of course they are going to do tetris, far easyer.
Also, it wasn't only americans there thanks lol, and no one else gives a f*k. Also i feel it would be anti german. So easyer just to not pick a side for google.

Yeah ya kinda gotta point there. Although I don't really know which side to take in this argument, so I guess none. Maybe they could've used a Tetris style American flag though.

Boy aren't conservatives interesting?

"In U.S., A's for apathy
Not bulls**t democracy
Red white and blue is all you see
But does it mean you're really free?"

Since when was D-day an American thing? Somthing tells me that that google is being more anti Canadian/British if anything, since they had 3 beaches shared betwen them and the americans had 2.

Though D-day does deserve some sort of reference, those guys went though hell.

oh...for...fu-----

Anti-American? Ermm... I may not have been on those beaches all those years ago, (unless you count games) but I'm pretty sure there were UK and canadian soldiers frighting too.

Besides, Its not like you can only pay your repects when google alters it logo to something which marks D-day.

They can be free to celebrate or commemorate whatever the hell they want on their homepage.

Anyway I reckon Tetris has somewhat more *right* to be on googles homepage simply because.... well they share a day but for tetris is a 1/4 CENTURY! which is a lot more of a milestone date than the 65th which is somewhat random.... so when you factor in the fact that I don't believe that google has *ever* yet commemorated D-day or tetris I think tetris deserved it a bit more.

Yea hate me whatever but even if you dislike my second point my first will stand.

Conservatives make me ashamed to be an American. I could just imagine hearing this story on Fox News.

Well, the difference between remembrance day and D-Day is that remembrance day is a day of remembering the dead, whereas D-Day is a day of remembering a massive military victory.I think google just doesn't want to be seen as non-objective. An lets not forget, British, Canadian and French also took place in D-Day, and you don't see them complaining.
To be fair, you don't actually see Americans complaining, either. It's just a couple of conservative columnists on a slow news day.

You do realize this man and site do not represent America as a whole, yes? I mean I'm fully aware taking Normandy was a combined effort of all the western Allied Forces, and personally I don't see why Google had to memorialize it with everyone else, especially since they are a bunch of nerds and Tetris appeals to a bunch of nerds more.

Furthermore yes, we as a nation do have to get over our importance in WWII, just as the rest of the world needs to shut the fuck up about us "getting there late". Technically all of you got there late compared to goddamn Finland if we're going to go by that logic. I suppose you'd rather we'd never had shown up and you'd all be goosestepping your way to Buchenwald? Didn't think so. In short, The world needs to get the fuck over WWII (but not the Holocaust because that was some seriously messed up shit).
