Let me get this straight. If something is not pro-American, than it's suddenly anti-American? Google is an international company and not a front-end to American zealots.
"If you're not with us, you're against us." Some conservatives still hold the Bush doctrine to heart, stupid as it may be.

And yes, I much rather celebrate the oldest game still in production that brought joy to far more people than the ones who died a meaningless and horrible death on the beach of Normandy. If that makes me anti-American, well, cry me a river. I'm Hungarian and I don't have to care about your holidays, nor does the rest of the world.
I agree with you here, but I contest the meaningless of the deaths. World War II was one of the few meaningful wars, and they did help bring down the Nazi's.

BTW, I'm really sorry for all the sane and sensible Americans, because obviously their country is doing everything in it's power to incite the whole world against the USA. And they are dumbfounded to see that everyone starting to hate the shit out of their country. I wonder why...
Apology accepted, and I and fellow sensible Americans are in no way represented by Fox News or the Bush administration.

Every day commemorates some sort of battle in history, what the hell is google supposed to do? And I've never seen them ignore a major holiday, they always do stuff for Christmas, Easter, and a bunch more.

As said earlier "anti-American"? What about all the British and Canadian troops.
Just a little quote to educate everyone. I know it did for me on the sheer scale anyway:
On D-Day, the Allies landed around 156,000 troops in Normandy. The American forces landed numbered 73,000: 23,250 on Utah Beach, 34,250 on Omaha Beach, and 15,500 airborne troops. In the British and Canadian sector, 83,115 troops were landed (61,715 of them British): 24,970 on Gold Beach, 21,400 on Juno Beach, 28,845 on Sword Beach, and 7900 airborne troops.

11,590 aircraft were available to support the landings. On D-Day, Allied aircraft flew 14,674 sorties, and 127 were lost.

In the airborne landings on both flanks of the beaches, 2395 aircraft and 867 gliders of the RAF and USAAF were used on D-Day.

Operation Neptune involved huge naval forces, including 6939 vessels: 1213 naval combat ships, 4126 landing ships and landing craft, 736 ancillary craft and 864 merchant vessels. Some 195,700 personnel were assigned to Operation Neptune: 52,889 US, 112,824 British, and 4988 from other Allied countries.

By the end of 11 June (D + 5), 326,547 troops, 54,186 vehicles and 104,428 tons of supplies had been landed on the beaches.
And when people say ignorant comments such as "WTF is D-Day. Isn't that gay". I'm sure it is more important than a computer game even if it was a landmark. Thousands dying to stop a reign of terror spreading and basically ending a war that had already been going on for 5 years at this time... or a computer game... I hope you can see the winner.
In a hundred years people will have ended all war, all violence of any kind, in fact, by genetically modifying people to be able to play Tetris in their head. People will be too busy playing it to do anything else.

While WWII was a big historical event, it's ludicrous to say Google is anti-American for not using the logo to celebrate it. The Google logo is far from one of the most serious places you will find, and what they put up there really doesn't matter. If you are saying that everyone is being an ass by not commemorating D-Day, especially if you didn't do anything yourself, then you're being ridiculous. This isn't even taking into account that Americans weren't even the only people involved.

This is stupid because one crazy hobo found a job at a news station and gets pissed when people don't act the way he wants them to.

It's Anti-American, ay'? What about all the English troops?

And for that matter, surely this is shaming the soldiers. They didn't get in the war for props, they got in the war to protect their country. I doubt they'd care if they weren't part of a banner for a website.
No no, that makes perfect sense. Neo Cons just need something to complain about. The extremists on either side are the loudest, just don't think we're ALL like that.

So... nothing else is ever allowed happen on June 6? Every 6th of june you have to sit around and do nothing, apparantly.

"Last summer, on June 6th we went to..."
"Shut the hell up, you asshole, that's D-Day!"
"Uh... right. You know what, nevermind."
I now have the perfect excuse to take off from work for the rest of my life. Thanks!

It's been said before, but Google is an international company. As an international company, it is in their best interest to be seen as neutral in all matters political, religious, and otherwise. They're also not owned by the State, and as such are not obligated in any way shape or form to celebrate national dates-of-remembrance or anything else for that matter.

While the tone of it is all wrong, understand where these people are coming from. Google choose to commemorate the universe of an iconic videogame, over one of the most important dates in history, whether it be American, British, Canadian, Australian, German, French, or Russian. The day that marked the beginning of the end for Hitler's Third Reich, and the liberation of those conquered lands (since the french couldn't hold their own.)
And how, exactly, would you expect Google to commemorate this important date?
Blood, bullets, and dead bodies all over the logo? Yeah that would surely show decency.

Of course I understand where they're coming from, but they're blowing it way out of proportion. Besides, anti-American? Seriously? Well I didn't celebrate Independence Day either, quite possibly because I'm not from the US, does that make me anti-American? Of course not, it just makes me not American.
I mean the fact that I can access Google from over here in Germany and read it in my language should be proof enough that Google most certainly isn't American.
Seriously, that's like saying Sweden is anti-American because they're not called the USA.

I think the news papers missed a big opportunity here; non of those dumb-ass writers are smart enough to find out that Tetris came from behind the Iron Curtain therefore Google are Communists. I would have thought any inflammatory biggot journalist with some professional pride would have been all over that like a rash....

Google isn't an arm of the American government, therefore, it is not required to celebrate every little holiday by displaying 1000 American flags, as it is not owned by the American public.

Also, I believe Google's HQ are in Switzerland, so it doesn't matter x2.

The patriotism Americans display sickens me. They're so primitive.
Thanks for being a stereotyping jerk. Fucking Canadians. Primitive fucking Canadians. Make me sick.
I'm not a Canadian, I'm German. Anyways, I'm saying Americans are primitive in that they foolishly pledge allegiance to a nationality, which is no better than doing so in a tribe. Tribalism is what causes a good portion of wars.
Sorry, your profile has a Canadian flag, so I went with that. Sorry. How are we foolishy pledging allegiance? Because it's something school children do? That nobody gives a shit about? Or what?
I didn't know how else to put it, I meant ignorantly taking your Nation's side in every matter, and thinking of those who do not display patriotism at every possible chance as "un-American". The phrase "If you don't like my country, you can get out" is alarming as well.
Did you ever think that maybe not everyone does this? Again, thanks for stereotyping an entire country. Nothing quite like it. Hey, what other country blindly followed it's leader's orders? Oh fuck, wasn't that Germany, circa fifty years agoYou

Did you ever think that some people actually go and look at the issues and choose which side they go with?

The phrase "If you don't like my country, get out", makes sense. If you don't like someplace, don't fucking be there. For both common sense and the national defense. I wouldn't want people who didn't like my house in my house. They might break some thing or something of that class.

HAHAHA. That was funny...

I live in Britain and have even just studied the D-Day landings yet I didn't even commemorate the D-Day landings, possibly due to the fact that it's shown a lot as a purely American acheivement.

Note that a Conservative columnist does not equate to the entire American government.

This is quite sad, though. I really hope they call Google out on being anti-human-race when groundhog day comes around.

At least, I don't put it past them.
