The dark brotherhood. All of it was a big dissapointment to me. The armor looked really lame, the quests were all too easy and the culmination of it all was about as fullfilling as the Oblivion ending, instantly felt like killing everyone of the other members the moment i stepped inside the sanctum. I mean come on, a fucking kid in the dark brotherhood? Nothing made it feel like the DB to me at all. And also, why does no one respect me? I mean i am the leader of several factions and i kill dragons for breakfast, and yet people treat me like i'm a nobody. BAH!

I have a few issues with the game and, aside from the silly bugs I expected, they are purely from a UI perspective.

My biggest gripe with the game is a lack of a buff bar. There's no way to easily tell what buffs/debuffs that are active on you without going through 3 steps in a menu, and that's flat-out poor design. There needs to be a way to visually identify when your buffs run out or when you're affected by a debuff, the fact that it's not there is rather galling, especially since Oblivion did it relatively well.

Right behind that is the menu interface. I like the way it's designed, but it clearly wasn't designed (or tested properly for that matter) for a mouse and keyboard. I can reliably cause the selection thing to completely de-sync from my mouse pointer, and occasionally make the entire menu un-clickable. It's very poorly implemented. I like the look and simplistic feel of it (being a UI purist), but it's just extremely poorly done in this case.

My last "big" gripe is the lack of a breath bar or audible equivalent. There's simply no way to tell how close you are to running out of breath, which makes underwater exploring a bit of a pain. It's not a huge deal, and it's never been debilitating, but it is rather aggravating.

Loading screens

The inability to separate items in containers into categories

Frame rate drops

Quest markers getting confused

My shouts locking up during fights

That's about it really. Game is amazing.
Just about everything there, plus it's rather annoying when a dragon randomly spawns, then just flys away.
I kid you not, but I have chased down dragons that just refused to attack me.

Oh, and sneaking with dual daggers seems a bit overpowered.
Seriously, I'm one hit killing most threats.

The game doesn't fit my tv. Bits of text just hang off screen and I have no Idea how to fix this.

I just bought it last night, not too impressed to be honest. This may be due to fact that I could barely hear what the fuck was being said at the intro part, I then ran into a bug that made the loading screen freeze up but I could hear the game sounds and voices (managed to fix that) and then finally being released from the intro part to do whatever I wanted and looking out into the world and thought "Meh, Fallout 3 did it better".

Honestly, I'm dissapointed from what I've seen.

PC or console? If your awesome you'll have it for PC, and then you'll just save at the mouth of that cave you come out of. When you make a new character you open the console on that save and type "showracemenu". You may now create a new character, avoid the bothersome sequence at the beginning (know what you mean, have something like 10-15 characters now) and save yourself a lot of trouble! Now knowing your level of experience I'll also say that to open the console press the button on your keyboard that is next to 1 (not 2!). Don't be offended by me saying that, just in case!

/avid TES nerd =3
Or just make a save as soon as you step off the cart at the beginning, before you even step forward. Then make sure to keep that one as your start point for new characters. That's what I did at the very start anyway.
It actually automatically generates a save for you at that point, so simple enough... I'm talking about avoiding the tutorial bit as well, not just the "cutscene."=3

Grievances, grievances, where art thou? I'm serious, I'm having a hard time coming up with them. I'm not saying the game is perfect; it obviously isn't, but coming up with something sufficiently detrimental to the enjoyment of the game to be worthy of the term grievance has proven to be difficult. Of course, there were the occasional low level launches into the stratosphere by an ornery giant's attack to allow my sense of immersion to escape me like my character escaped Nirn's magnetic field.

Granted, I did have a few grievances right after buying the game, namely some noticeable FX bugs that made non-static and particle effects such as fire, webbing, flowing water and the like invisible, and some item models not showing up in the item interface. However, a third party patch I downloaded fixed 99% of those problems, leaving me with nothing but my enjoyment of the game, which despite its heavy system requirements ran more smoothly on High settings by a mile that Oblivion ever did with all the stops pulled out. Playing this long-anticipated game made me feel like I was in Sovngarde, swimming in mead. And there are no hangovers in the afterlife. If anything, the biggest grievance I can name is that by the time I get tired of Skyrim, my friends will probably have declared me legally dead.

All kidding aside, I feel I shouldn't cheat the thread topic and at least list a bunch of issues and nitpicks I have encountered.

1) Guards piss me off.

While it is nice that they have stock phrases to tell you depending on your affiliation, accomplishments and gear, you get mighty tired after a while for example of being addressed with "Oh, I remember now. You're that new member of the Companions. So you what, fetch the mead?" while I have finished the Yorvangr quest line long ago and he should be offering condoleances for my predecessor's death instead. Furthermore, the guards still have the same problem as in Oblivion, of drawing from an aggressively small pool of voice actors, although at least there are more than two this time. I like that guards may offer tidbits of information and directions to interesting landmarks in the surrounding area, though.

2) Helmets.

Hands up everyone who takes careful consideration in creating their character's face. Hands up if you don't want helmets to fuck up your look. The problem here is that for certain builds, helmets are quite mandatory to get the most out of your character. For example, there are two Heavy Armor perks that give you a 25% bonus to total armor rating each if you are wearing a complete set and a matching set respectively, of heavy armor (that is, head, chest, hands and feet). With all those perks in the bag, my level 30 waraxe and shield wielding Nord warrior in full Daedric armor goes from almost 600 armor to low 300's when you take his helmet off. The problem is thus; that daedric helm completely obscures the face you have painstakingly constructed for him. Gone is the squared, angular jawline, the embattled snarl, and the evocative war paint, replaced with an expressionless helmet that looks like it belongs in the same catalog Lord Sauron uses to mail-order his equipment. Since the face of your character is pretty much everything he or she has to set them apart from all the NPCs, this being a world-focused Bethesda RPG, you aren't left with much. You will want to parade that face around, held aloft in pride. Among the many helmets that completely conceal your head and face are the dwarven, ebony, and daedric variety. How will the dragonborn of legend distinguish himself without a face to inspire fear in his enemies?

Also, if your character has long hair (which, being a filth-encrusted Nord, should be a given), you will encounter clipping issues with certain unique and much more flavourful helmets, with hair sticking out of the meshes and all that. Also, I wish all the helmets in the game were as cool as some of the early ones like the horned iron and steel helmets, but sadly not. Which brings me directly to;

3) Tiered Armor Sets.

Having played a decent amount of time, you eventually come to categorize all that loot you find in an arbitrary list, somewhat like 'Leather/Iron < Studded Leather/Steel < Dwarven < Steel Plate < Elven/Orcish < Glass/Ebony < Daedric', and that's sort of... limiting. I don't hate the idea that certain armor types are inherently better than others, but I do sort of find the lack of variety a little disappointing. Instead of only focusing on the base armor value of an armor type, Bethesda missed the opportunity of putting in armors with unique benefits and disadvantages, or simply add much more varied equipment of every tier to the game in general. The game DVD was only like 5.1 gigabytes, so don't tell me there wasn't room for a little more content.

4) Chicken Factions and Crime and Punishment.

So who else tried to kill that chicken when they arrived in Riverwood, just to see what happens? Now I may be accused of taking chicken rights with too big a grain of salt, but I don't think one dead chicken warrants the entire village taking up arms to smite the evil Slayer of Chickens. Apparently the offense was so grievous that even putting away your weapon didn't alleviate the situation, or the continued and raucous hostilities to the address of yours truly. They wouldn't accept my yield and killed me over a dead chicken, then presumably roasted it over a fire for lunch a few minutes later while discussing how chicken punching had become a real social issue these days. In a strange contrast to this early-game excerpt, I murdered an imperial courier later in the game and yielded to the authorities, and got off with a show of stripes and a warning to my account. I guess the Empire should have hired chickens to deliver vital military documents.

And why was it called murder anyway, if the courier drew and struck first?

I'm sure there are plenty of other problems with the law and justice system in Skyrim than I have been able to find, but a useful fix would be to change the chickens' faction settings so they are no longer considered with the same reverence as the head of the family.

5) Disarming Shout

So, one day I was exploring a Nordic Ruin called Labyrinthian and came across my first Draugr Deathlord. Now, at level 15 on the Expert difficulty setting, that fight was slightly more difficult than licking your own elbow. They were one of the first enemies I encountered that had access to Shouts of their own, and there is one in particular that has invoked my ire. The Disarm shout, which rips weapons out of their wielder's hands and catapults them across the room, is quite nice to have when faced with a throng of threatening opponents, but it's not something that the player shrugs off too easily. Having your armaments torn from your hands is downright infuriating. With the limited customization points you have available, and usually carrying a main weapon that is much more powerful or valuable than the next best axe you carry, losing it is always a tense situation, especially in dark places where, if you survive the encounter, need to search for several moments to find it between all the clutter that covers the floors of most dungeons. What's more, losing an item scraps it from your favorite list, so you lose your goddamned hotkey. Dick move, Deathlord, dick move.

I may post my grievances about Skyrim 6 thru 10 some other time, but now I no longer feel like writing and would rather go back to playing the game

Dragon Priests. Dear god,DRAGON PRIESTS. Named ones only, though.

Vokun,Morkai, and Krosis were the only ones I fought so far,and they were INSANE! Their staves advertized far less damage than what was being belted out to me with them, and their natural spells were WORSE! And then there's the fact that Krosis and Morkai are partial to summoning tanky Frost Atronachs, while Vokun upped the ante with Storm Atronachs (I was a shock spec destroyer/conjurer). Finally,Krosis and Vokun liked to brainwash my summons.

The kicker? I fought them at level 20-28. I still died at least three times per.

I was at HALF THE FLIPPIN' LEVEL CAP,AND THEY STILL KILLED ME WITH 2 STAFF SHOTS,OR ONE NATURAL SPELL! I realize that they're supposed to be nasty powerful...But that's ridiculous. One slip...And YER DEAD! Resistances be DAMNED!
Dark brotherhood gloves + dagger with the backstab multiplier perk = dragon priest dead in one hit.
Or, be better at alchemy and drink resistance potions and use poisons.
With my enchants and my alchemy skill, I'm a single resistance potion away from being virtually immune to any element.
The damage that slip through is easily made up for with my 120%+ faster health regen potions.
The least effective strategy is charging headlong into the fight thinking you can just kill them faster than they kill you.

It autosaves just before the character creation part. Meaning you can always just load that up and skip the opening. Also, im pretty sure that you should have to go through the opening levels and such since they include levelling.

You can, though I don't know why you would want to. Just go to the stables at any Hold, and the cart driver will fast port you to any other Hold, regardless of if you've been there already or not. Though, if you did that you'd miss out on a shit ton of stuff that you get to see while traveling across Skyrim.

OT: I have only one complaint, and that's the awful awful memory leak. I can play for about a half hour to an hour, and then my frame rate will drop to almost nothing. At that point I have to restart the game. Restarting the game every hour or so gets quite annoying.

Also, I think I've spread my perks out too thin. Not the game's fault, but damn it if it doesn't piss me off. Where is the trainer so I can respec? lol.

My main concern is my lack of faith in the game. I LOVE Skyrim but there is this niggle in the back of my mind always "if I do that will I break the main quest?" "If I take out the disc will I lose more textures?" And so on. It is only because I'm so divested in this game that I'm so concerned. It has crashed the console several times, at least once every half hour (on average) which is annoying and does break the immersion.

The feeling I mentioned does permeate my Xbox experience after 4 RRODs on 3 separate consoles. (Yeah I got them fixed and eventually got new ones). My confidence in the experience is shaken and I half expect it all to break at any time!

That said wild mammoths couldn't pull me away from the game and if some of these issues (textures and numerous broken quests) are fixed it will be GOTY easily if not better for me.

There's no point in fencing(One weapon in one hand with no shield), which would be my preferred fighting style.

Dragons eventually become little more then highly aggressive roadblocks.

Story and characters still lack any real depth or emotional resonance. Which is a shame, cause Fallout 3 actually got me thinking, and I caught myself getting a little attached to some members of the cast(Like the residents of Megaton).

It's so big that sometimes you feel a bit lost. There's no telling how much reward(Fun or profit) a quest is going to net you. Sometimes things that don't seem important lead to great loot(Like The YouKnowWhat of YouKnowWho in that abandoned house, or the burned down house in Morthal), and sometimes quests that are built up to be epic and take hours to complete, only lend you items as good as ones you could have made on your own.

Like the Forbidden Legends quest. I spent hours hunting down the Dragon Claws for an amulet that gives me a little stat buff?!(I already had a ring that gave me stamina and a necklace that gave me health, and I don't use magic). And after the Journal I found claimed it made this one guy the envy of all, to the point that his family betrayed him out of jealousy?. I wouldn't stab a beggar over that thing, which I do for fun.

I just fought a band of mini-Falmer, I started at a high vantage point so everything looked right, as I made my way down they got closer but not larger. Pretty funny stuff until I got spanked by a skeever sized Falmer skulker.

You can get those to disappear by taking whatever arrows you have equipped and putting them in a container. It might also work if you simply drop them, but I haven't tested that.
i've tried dropping them, to no avail. i'll try putting them into a container and see if that works. Thanks.
I've heard attacking a guard and letting yourself get killed may work for some.

Though, this will probably be patched out soon. It's a big issue.

My one and only grievance?

Giants. They're OPed to a ridiculous degree. Goes to the point where my seeing one automatically resolves with me going "OSHITOSHITOSHIT" and sprinting or Wuld-ing the other way.

I am not a fan of some of the enemies clipping through the ground like a mage who keeps shooting ice on me when hes in the stairs and I cannot hit him. I love this game though, it has usurped the spot of my favorite game ever.

One of my favorite aspects thought is how characters look, argonians and khajit are awesome looking and orcs look more human so they seem more badass and less comical than other interpretations.

also i hate spiders and cant look at them, severe arachnophobia, but luckily im on PC and have a mod where spiders are bears instead. glad i chose PC over 360.

this. i was going to make a new character on a whim yesterday, but when i realized i couldn't skip the cut scene i "decided" not too.

i have this same problem with ME2, which is so god awfully long i wanted to shoot the development team every time i had to watch it. and you can't even walk away from that one as you can in skyrim since bioware made you reply to those few moments with whatever her name is and joker in the cut scene.

I've been thinking a lot about that, and I've decided I really don't mind dragons being too easy to kill. Otherwise, the designers would've had to make dragons really rare until high levels, which would basically mean spending the first half of the game killing nothing but rats and bandits. Sure, it's a bit weird, but I kinda like the fact I can spend the whole game having epic dragon fights...for once, a game really is as awesome as the trailer right from the start.

My biggest gripe is probably the arbitrary enchanting limitations. Why can my hat fortify my alchemy skill but not my clothes? And for that matter, why can my clothes fortify smithing but not my hat?

Strongly Disagree - My Double-War Axe-Wielding Nord in Legendary Dragon-Scale Armour with Legendary Daedric War Axes and Every perk on the One-Handed and Light Armour tree with a potion of the Warrior down his neck is usually one or two power attacks away from felling even the hardiest of Dragon Priests.

Generally it's a Twin Power Attack, followed immediately by an Unrelenting Force shout if that doesn't stagger them (if it does, then keep chopping until they're dead, or back on their feet and it's time for another Power Attack).

Bob's your uncle, Fanny's your aunt, one dead Dragon Priest.
