I'm a hunter (and gun enthusiast)and i love me some good old fashion MW2 but, i have to agree: A lot of people think they know everything about guns just because they play a little CoD. However, i will say that it is also bringing new group into the world of gun enthusiasts.

Well the same people think Desert Eagles are "good weapons".

I laugh.
They are a good weapon.....for bludgeoning someone to death
Or if you're being menaced by a stationary melon.

I'm not a gun enthusiast. I've only ever fired an assault rifle modified into a light gun for training sim purposes and I could barely hit anything with that because of the weight. It too really annoys me when these wastes of oxygen go around spouting model numbers because CoD told them that's what gun it is. Some people at my Sixth Form have arguments about what gun is better and why. Utterly stupid. I play first person shooters but I know my knowledge about the actual damn things amounts to "A revolver is a poor decision for a shootout" and that's probably not even correct.

I also have a story like that. I used to go hunting sometimes with my father or my friend and we could be considered as "gun enthusiasts" a little bit. Well me and my friend were talking about the recoil that some guns make when they are fired and the proper way to hold the gun when fired. Next thing we know this kid comes in and says, "You don't know what you're talking about at all." Then he tried to explain how to hold and fire the guns, and did a very poor job at it. Then me and my friend ask, "Do you even know what we're talking about?" He said, "Your talking about Modern Warfare 2." After he said that we left because if we stayed any longer we believed that our brain cells might die. True story.

I can perfectly envision this guy in the gun store in my mind. I do play call of duty, but I would never claim to know anything about weapons, especially guns.

It's acommen misconception that we Americans can just waltz into a store and buy a military grade assualt rifle. M-16s aren't sold to civilians, closest one can purchase is the semi-auto to burst fire AR-15 or similar weapons. Them you need a permit for diffrent weapons and a few grand depending on the cost. It's not that easy to get a gun. Hell, here in Philedlphia, automatic weapons are illegal.

Easy, give the gun back to its owner, and hope he knows what to do.

MW2, because understanding a hand held killing machine is as easy as knowing it's name and firing speed.

and so ghetto douchebags (of any color at all mind you) take things from bad to worse . . . if it wasn't bad enough that douchebag fuck heads get their hands on guns to try and be intimidating, now they have the tiny enough bit of knowledge about the real thing that they know what to ask for to get their hands on even more DANGEROUS stuff . . .

I do not look forward to the future my friends . . . I only hope america stays gun totting . . . legally that is . . . the last thing we need is bored teenagers with tons of cash getting their hands on illegal guns and have no way to defend ourselves

Woah unto our world. Not only do we have morons running around, but morons who think they can operate complicated guns... we are truly the damned generation to be living in such times of madness.

You're also not mentioning that you have to wait for the permit to be approved at all, and the price of ammo, the fact that it's likely to raise more then a few eyebrows since a semi-automatic rifle isn't exactly "hunting rifle" material

you take your hand away from the trigger for damn certain, and clear out the chamber incase it's a jammed bullet, if it's not a jammbed bullet, well I'm lost . . . but I'm not actually a gun owner just related to alot of them XD

I am guilty of this, games like Rainbow Six Vegas made me really interested in reading more about the guns I was using, but I do have sense not to go ask an actual gun shop owner. Not that we have any gun shops in Denmark. So it turned into an airsoft obsession instead.

Finger off trigger, safety on, clip out, pull back the "bolt" or whatever you call them in English, check the chamber for stuck catridges. That's for an M4 anyways, but should apply to most assault rifles.

If that's wrong, then my time serving the army was a waste.

Actually, the Bushmaster ACR is soon to be released to the public at around $3,000. I was honestly a bit more fond of it back when it was known as the Magpul Masada.

Indeed, very much supportive. I have damn cool T-shirts and I will show them to the world.

Citizens, defend your right to bare arms!

And I've been looking for a MERV for so long already... the damn socialist government must have banned them. If I want to launch seven nukes at some mugger then god damn it sir I should be able to, it's for my own safety.

I do have an annoying habit of identifying guns on screen in films, just to show off that I can. I got this "identify the silouette" skill from playing videogames. But no. I know jack shit about guns. Suffice to say that guns are barely ever portrayed realistically in videogames anyway.

I heard there was a tapping technique, in which you basically rap the gun smartly, and recock it. Amiright?

That's pretty scary...Thinking of the n00b hunters buying REAL guns
I wouldn't be too concerned. Zero skill is required to kill in Halo and CoD (prove me wrong) with a sniper rifle, or anything really. They probably couldn't figure out how to LOAD the rifle to begin with! xD
It's easy. Push X/square XD. If you can answer this question you need a better hand gun: How do you strip and clean a glock?

I'll just stick to playing a game and wikipediaing the guns featured in them if I want to know more.
This.

When I'm modding for a realism mod, I'll often use Wikipedia as a source for the basic details (magazine size, RPM, caliber, etc). Sure I don't learn how to handle the gun, but I still know stuff about it. I also have a friend who is a HUGE gun nut, and it rubs off on me. My favorite thing to bug him with is to pick stereotypical "kick-ass" guns as my favorites (such as the Desert Eagle and Model 82).

I know gun enthusiasts like to think that guns are hard to learn and handle, but they're probably worse elitists then us PC gamers. Wow, you can pull a trigger and NOT get knocked in the face by the recoil, congrats. Now tell me how that makes you smarter then gamers?

I admit, not all gamers are the most informed people when it comes to weaponry, but most of us realize that shooting a Model 82 while sprinting is not realistic.

As for the finer points of gun handling, such as taking care of the weapon, that's what manuals/the internet is for.
