Finally. Buncha pricks.

I just hate this shit. If the servers are closing, just let them close. I can only imagine the hell that will be unleashed when the CoD4 servers are shut down.

EDIT: Since I'm being attacked for saying this in a manner I wasn't expecting...allow me to to try and clarify why I find these people to be pricks. Look, the PC version is still online. The game is old as hell at this point, and can basically run on any machine made in the last few years, so if you love it that damn much, just move on to the PC version.
Yeah....still makes you look a lot of a twat. It's not harming anyone, it doesn't effect anyone besides themselves, they're not being mean to anyone, and they were just doing to see how long they could stay online for a LAUGH, sheesh.

A prick is someone who's being irritating and annoying on purpose, if this annoys you that much, then christ you have problems.

It takes one to know one....so I guess you would be the king of that.

I salute what they did. Sad to see such an excellent game go.....but it will not die....I can promise you that.
do you find that stupid cat of an avatar funny because its retarded
onyx has twice the inttllengence that you do and is entitled to his own (right) opinion and your entitleed to your own (wrong) opinion and im entitled to my own (retarded) opinion
And defending someone who is more than capable of defending themselves is just "retarded" as well. Onyx doesn't need your help, and you don't need to tell anyone else on here that their OPINION is wrong or right. Don't try and get in good with some "veteran" on this site.

Get out of here you troll.

OT: I'm proud of these guys. Its really cool that they went the distance like that. I never thought I'd see such dedication in gaming, but thats one of our ways to show it. Did they have to stay active so they wouldn't get kicked by the way? Because if thats the case...then damn, those guys are hardcore.

Yeah, my thoughts on this have been made abundantly clear, but I think Graham Stark said it best

'turning what should have been a triumphant last hurrah into a prolonged death rattle.'
That's one way to see it, I suppose. To me, it sounds more like turning an unceremonious drop into a prolonged last stand, but to each their own.
That's just the thing, it wasn't an unceremonious drop. It's been running for 5 years, Bungie knew the end was coming, let people know it was coming, and from what I hear organised events, specials, things to do, letting people really celebrate the fun times they had, and then when it was all over, they tried to let it go out with a dignified last 'wake me when you need me'-esque send off of shutting it down, a suitable caveat to five years of gameplay, letting it end on the highest note since it began, and these guys turned it into a small group whining 'but we still want our five year old gaming platform which is near hopelessly antiquated.'

It stopped it from being the glorious last goodbye Bungie intended, which they deliberately set up to avoid having people think it was an unceremonious drop, and made it a farce.

So you think it would have been more triumphant for everyone to just sign off instead of a few people testing the limits of how far they could go for a game they loved against all odds? Meh, fair enough, but in the words of the great Lebowski: "That's just, like, your opinion man." :)
It's not my opinion, it's Graham Stark's opinion, I quite deliberately put that in the sentence before the one you quoted.

And yes, it would have been more triumphant to let the servor finally shut down, and would even have added a nice meta-fiction note to the Halo story, echoing the final game, the Master Chief, having fought many battles and done great things, being allowed finally to rest in peace, knowing his task is done.

I'm going to quote someone else here, 'if you're a true fan of the game, you know it didn't need a sequel.' And it's the same principle, if you really were a true fan, instead of someone who just wanted their own way, you'd realise that this was a fitting end.

This would be really sad if it wasn't also pathetic.

I admire their spirit, but this whole event went above and beyond a few determined fans that wanted to keep playing. Part of life is learning to let things go, and keeping Halo 2 in digital hospice for a month was just a cruel waste of bandwidth and server cycles.

The above statement reflects my personal opinion, and should be considered a subjective viewpoint on this topic. Reader discretion is advised.

veteran would imply that theyve actaully done something. it was a joke you fool did you not notice that my own opinion was stated as retarded

a troll is someone who trys to get a angry response out of another person i was mereley trying to make a joke you on the other hand made this post to piss me off (narscisist and proud of it) so who is the bigger troll and what the hell are you talking about veterans i dont give a shit about how many posts bagdes and whatnot they have i dont like anyone here except furburt and saving princess.

so fuck off kid
And you fuel the fire. Your attempt to call it a joke is pitiful at best. You called someone's avatar retarded and you try and call your own opinion retarded and not only that, but you failed to comment at ALL on the article. I'm not responding anymore to you. Feel free to pm me if you wish to continue this, but I'm not doing it because I'm narcissistic, I'm doing it because there was absolutely no need for your "retarded"(as you call it) opinion.

We should all be proud of what was achieved at the end of Halo 2...it proved that people can put aside trash talk, and just get along and be part of a proper community, and that online gaming can truly be a wonderful thing..and that taking part in online battles, even with people you've never met, can create friendships and memories that will last a lifetime....
That post just cast this in a whole new light for me. These people enjoyed a paradise of XBox Live without the scourge of immature bigotry and hatred. Stubborn, lucky sons-of-bitches.

I understand your point, but it was for kicks. They weren't hurting anybody, and even Microsoft gave them props for being the last ones to leave XBL. Could they have left? Yeah, but they loved the game and didn't want to see their favorite game die. Also, maybe they didn't want to play it on the PC? Halo 2 originally came out for Xbox, so that's what they played it on. Nothing bad about it.

I love how he played solo for another 6 and a half hours. Does this event just say something about the recession and subsequent job losses at the moment that 24 players could play for a week straight and 2 people play for nearly a month!?

I SUMMON OBAMA TO CURE THE PROBLEM!

Excuse my bad language, but thank fuck that's finally over. Maybe now they'll be smart and get the game on PC where it (apparently) still works fine.
Better yet, maybe they'll get a good game and a bit of a social life.
Got to be non-conformist and agree with Onyx here.

So there we have it, Apache N4SIR wins Halo 2.

I still think it's a joke that they've cut friends and invite matches 'for the sake of progress'
Matchmaking fine, that actually puts some demand on your servers, but point blank saying you can no longer play this game because we don't feel like it anymore is plain dickheadedness.

In other news, watch out Halo 3 and Modern Warfare players, you're next.

Yep. Although why you would want to play old games, is another matter entirely. I for one, will likely not miss TF2 when TF3 comes out.
