Am I the only one who thinks it's a little bit stupid that they did this? It seems like a 4 year-old stomping his foot and saying no.
They like the game, I get that, but leaving on your system for an entire month? That's crossing the line of stupidity for me.

I just hate this shit. If the servers are closing, just let them close. I can only imagine the hell that will be unleashed when the CoD4 servers are shut down.
THANK YOU!

Wow.

Such a simple, harmless thing to spark such weird and aimless hate. Did they take a dump in your cereal bowl?

Anywho, it's interesting to see this story finally come to a close. Awesome little bit of dedication this was

EDIT: Since I'm being attacked for saying this in a manner I wasn't expecting...allow me to to try and clarify why I find these people to be pricks. Look, the PC version is still online. The game is old as hell at this point, and can basically run on any machine made in the last few years, so if you love it that damn much, just move on to the PC version.
Good for you for saying what you truly belive. Then the idiotic escapist celebrity bullshit thing sets in. OMG Onyx you can't be mean, we all "know" you.

After reading your edit. I agree with you. It was selfish on the player's part to do what they did when they could just as easily play it on PC like everyone else.

I respect you now more than ever for saying they are fucking pricks. Its just sad that this is a community that can't handle the slightest bit of negatiivity.

Agreed. Couldn't have said it better myself. Regardless of the fact there's another version on another gaming platform, the fact is the company wanted it shut off. They paid to rent time on those servers and have to respect the fact that the company wants to discontinue said service, regardless of their emotions. Squatting on something that doesn't belong to them is criminal and utulizing the fact that Halo 2 is a well known product to cause a PR issue is even lower than low.

I'm sorry, but you come across as something of a consumer drone, with all the "Do as the dev say!" and "Move on to the next game regardless of quality!" talk. Why on Earth are you so into just doing as you are told?
Why are you so into acting like a child? Part of being a productive member of society, or being an adult as I prefer to call it, is accepting some truths to this world. One of those truths is loss. Proper individuals can accept that nothing great lasts forever and that it must come to an end eventually. Learning to accept this is apart of growing up and the sooner you can realise this, the better for you and everyone around you. Sadly, these individuals have not come to this conclusion and neither have you, apparently. Your hippie attitude of "stick it to the man" is bland, even if you see it as refreshing. It's been done and to no effect because at the end of the day, people still need a hiarchy, whether we like it or not. Someone needs to run Microsoft and make billions of dollars and someone needs to pick up everyone's trash. That's life. The sooner you live with that reality, the happier you'll be, as you can then work within the system to achieve what makes you happy.

More to the point, I find it disgraceful that these people just leeched off something they loved for an entire month. With the effort Bungie put into giving Halo 2 a last hurrah, you would think the fans could respect that it was just Halo 2's time. But no, they need to disgrace the efforts of the developers by squatting on the servers and impeading progress. Microsoft wants to update their servers so million can enjoy added benefits. Instead, these people could only see what was infront of them and decided that they'd have to rip it away from them instead of letting it go. To this end, Microsoft has been unable to update these servers properly for an entire month! That a lot of lost profit and whether you want to admit it to yourself or not, potential for more jobs in an economy that's just crawling out of a slump. These few have hurt others just to gain their own satisfaction for a period of time that was unjustified. I could see maybe a few days, to give Bungie a last hurrah from the fans, by the fans, but this has gone on far too long indeed.

That being said, I still have to appreciate what these guys and gals have done. Everyone at some point has lost something they wish they never had and have wanted to keep it forever. This is definately a testament to that sentiment and I have to at least salute them for that. For those moments in life you have lost your love and had to move on, this is the empitome of crying out to life and saying "No! You can't have it yet..."

To those Spartans (and Elites) who fought the good fight to the bitter end...

But not all is lost, for one must always remember: "Spartans never die, they're just Missing In Action..."

What you have here is not an opinion. It's an attempt to look smart by disagreeing with others.

And, yes, disagreeing with a majority CAN make you intelligent. Unfortunately, your position here amounts to "HOW DARE THEY BE HAPPY, I HATE HAPPINESS, FUCK YOU GUYS!!1"

Congratulations.

You don't know me very well. I'm not disagreeing with the majority to seem smart or cool or edgy.

I don't give 2 shits what people think of me.

I feel like I'm missing something here. How does your insulting disagreement with what these players chose to do with their time make them pricks?

As far as I can tell they weren't hurting anybody. They weren't insulting anyone by making their little protest/last stand/whatever label you'd like to put on it. They were having fun and giving their game a sort of final send-off. I've seen many people do many sillier things over the years; I'm sure we've both heard of pricks doing truly obnoxious and damaging things, too.

So what is it about their choice to play this game online to the very last possible moment that makes them pricks?

To paraphrase Graham Stark, they turned a last hurrah into a death rattle.
I think you're looking at this the wrong way, I think it was a tribute to how much they liked the game, not something malicious.

Bungie and Microsoft seemed flattered, they understood it was a COMPLIMENT, not a slap to the face.

Indeed. If you have any players willing to keep playing, while there's a sequel out, for weeks after you pull support, there is no way to take that as anything but a compliment. I think its very impressive and incredible that these players decided to do what they did. Especially Windex and Apache. Well played, good sirs, well played. I, and apparently Microsoft and Bungie, applaud you.
