Video games: Still blamed for people's inherit idiocy.
This is why irresponsible parents shouldn't be allowed to have kids.
More like: "This is why irresponsible children shouldn't be allowed to have video games."

I can all but guarantee this happens a lot with phones. The PSP had nothing to do with it really.

Great, more ammunition for the anti gaming groups. All because of one little child with less common sense.

This kid was obviously trying to one-up that dumb broad that fell into that mall fountain last week. The next guy to do this is gonna walk right off the eiffel tower or something. P.S. That looked really painful, cuz theres probably nothing but metal and gravel down there.

..For a moment, I read that as "Handheld game propels boy onto subway tracks".

That was a good "WTF?" moment, followed by an "Ooh!" moment..

I'm glad the kid wasn't hurt, although he was being incredibly stupid [sub]and apparently hasn't been playing handheld systems long enough to get good at multitasking..[/sub]

As towards all of the individuals shouting "Natural Selection!".. go back and read your science textbooks, eh?

I can watch him fall over and over again. That was hilarious, deserves a darwin award for lack of peripheral vision and terrible parenting. His fall reminded me of the euphoria engine, lol.

I have a friend who put his psp in his pocket ( a rather large pocket at that) walked to a store, walked back and took out the psp and the screen was broken. I think that qualifies as mostly fragile.
On multiple occasions, I've thrown my PSP into my work bag, walked to the bus stop, ridden the bus 40 minutes, walked to work, and shoved my bag into an undersized cubby-locker. I have yet to suffer any ill effects for it. (For the record, I have it in a case, but it's just a neoprene pocket... not really good for impact damage.)

I wouldn't say it's as sturdy as a DS, but PSPs are not particularly fragile, either. I'd say the big pocket hurt your friend more than anything else, becuase it gave the system room to build momentum. (I'm guessing coat pocket, right? )

Anyway- stupid kid is stupid. There's no excuse for this with a PSP- even if your game doesn't pause, you just flick the power and it does standby, no matter what you were doing at the time. It's one of my favorite things about the PSP, becuase it means I can stop whenever I need to and not lose progress. Hopefully, someone points that out to him.

Parents ought to teach him to stay still and to be more careful. Also, why don't they have a safety railing along the drop off there?

I'm glad the kid's okay. I'm glad that the police man saved his life.

And I'm certainly glad that FOX news hasn't gotten a hold of this.

But seriously, where were the damn parents?

Oh God. I am absolutely dumbfounded at some of these comments.

Would it have been different if he was reading a book when he fell? Texting? Petting a dog?!

How are we supposed to convince people that games don't densensitize people when people read this and say:

Sometimes we should let natural selection run it's course.
You know what bit of natural selection helped us get to where we are? Helping others in trouble! If you slip on a patch of ice and stumble into the street, and no one reaches over to grab you, I hope you remember what you said here as you get hit by a truck.

You've wrecked my day, thread. Shame on you!

Man, it's a good thing that cop grabbed him.
Remember kids, multitasking is not for everyone!

They are not!! My PSP-1003 is like a brick. I've dropped that thing a ridiculous amount of times, and the only reason its out of action right now is because a button broke, which can be easily replaced. A button!
I agree with you, my buddy accidentally dropped his down a double stair case at our high school, the kind that goes up one way, plateaus and then goes up the other way, it bounced down the one set (which was like 8 stairs), hit the wall, slid, and then bounced down the other set and it actually worked just fine, we were amazed at it.

OT: I kind of find the way he fell funny. Glad he's okay though, I'm pretty sure he will not make that mistake again (not paying attention to where he's walking).

Is this a true story that came out of the Mail? Surely not...
It's a paper called the Daily Mail, or if you frequent Fark, the Daily Fail.

I know right, the only way i could get rid of mine would be through some form of explosives. It's been through a typhoon in Japan and still works.
