I report anything that breaks the rules. It takes two peoples reports to get it on the queue though, so really, if you're just spamming reports it won't work.

I PM links to the worst offenders to mods like Logan, they usually deal with them pretty fast.

I really think more people should be doing that, you'd be surprised by how much the whole system is streamlined by it.

I agree. I've been reported before, and I broke the rules. I may not agree with all of the rules but I understand the need to enforce them.
A lot of other sites are not moderated as well as The Escapist is. It is nice to be on a site where there is a large community of posters who add discussion value to threads. That is largely due to the mods and the rules.
If there were no rules we would be seeing "FIRST" and one word posts all the time. Sure, it still happens, it will never completely go away, but at least this site promotes discussion and punishes spammers.
I always report anyone who breaks the rules, just like the gentlemen above me does ^^

I've never on any forum felt the neccessity to report anyone. The obvious trolls tend to be ... obvious ... and the less offenisve stuff I will just ignore for the most part. I do wish these forums had a function to ignore users, though.

For the two of you these forums do have an ignore user function. I have never used it though so I can't tell you want it is like. Just click on someones name in their post and you have view profile, send message, add as a friend and ignore.

Yeah, I drudged up some old PS2 games the other day and nostalgia hit me like a ton of bricks...I really do miss the good old days.

I've never reported someone over a personal dispute (I don't see the point in doing so, it's like running to the police because "That man called me a bad name, waaaaaaaaaaah")

i have only ever reported people on the steampowered user forums. these people were trolls and some of them were posting porn on an otherwise clean forum

It is not that they get reported for having a different opinion. They get reported for insulting others who have an opinion that is different from theirs.

HAHA. You are right. I was brought up with the belief and value that you handle your own probelms and never snitch. It seemed like the kids who told the teacher were those who could not defend themselves. I'm trying hard not to make a comparison between those kids and many people on here.

It's kind of why I started this thread I wanted to see what reasons people gave for reporting. I know it doesn't do anything besides call mod attention, and it helps to keep the troll population down, but it still feels like snitching. And I don't feel I require stitches. Some of the reasons for reporting people are pretty trivial, and reporting someone for being homophobic or racists is still reporting them for having a different opinion.

On a favorite map thread for MW2:
"Um. I don't play call of duty because I'm not a fag"

Or on another PS3 vs 360 thread
"Pfff... Only morons play consoles, real gamers play PC, get some braincells asswipes"

I also have the urge to press the Big Red Button with stuff like this. Fortunately it doesn't happen too much.

yes. Oh dear God yes. Whenever someone pisses me off. Most recent in memory is the 4chan spammer during the Zynga v. Valve thread. I reported him about 20 times, because dear God was I sick of him.

The only site I've ever reported anyone on is IGN, and even then it's only those spammers who are constantly advertising some random online shopping store in broken English.
