I reported a guy when in the middle of a discussion he said "For all your computer needs, go to NAME". That kind of advertising does not sit well with me.

Also, I report everybody who behave in a way that's clearly offensive.

No. Never.
1. you just got reported because of a low content post. 2. you just got reported in order to prove a point that the report button is not nearly as serious as it may sound, and the fact that you have never used it in 400 posts scares me.
Fine. I've reported you for straying away from the discussion, and doing the same thing someone else did earlier in the topic.

Also, if straight answering a question is 'low content', than this is no content either. Seeing as it is nothing that could not have been said in a PM.

On-topic: I have reported someone, once. My reason being mentioned above. I don't feel any different.

Yeah, quite a few times.

Some guy kept making multiple accounts a few months back being incredibly racist. And other times I do for racism/homophobia/other -ism's, and if they're getting on my tits.

As many people have said before, I only report what needs to be reported. None of this "Report because they don't agree" bollocks, they only cause congestion in the moderation queue-thingy.

When do I use the report button. I usually only report low content replies that give nothing to the discussion what so ever. Of course offensive images and statements towards others usually draw me over to the button as well. I don't ever report people who happen to [or try rather] flame me. I figure I'm going into politics and law; if I can't handle some random person across the internet calling me an ass hole or something, then what the hell am I doing getting into those job areas?

In short I use the report button for what its for, not as a protection from the oh so cruel words that penetrate the internet every so often

Never!! On any site. Noone likes a dobber. If I don't like something I can just move on without getting my panties in a bunch over it.

Isn't that what mods are for anyway. If they dislike something they can act upon it.

Well, thankfully it doesn't usually work that way. Because it takes 2 reports for it even to show up on the mod queue, a single person disagreeing with another won't even register, it would take two people disagreeing with it. Now, this is just speculation, but I'd imagine if two or more users find a post offensive, as opposed to one, it's more likely to be something that is actually offensive.

It's a good system.
It's a good system, I agree, but I'm just saying that if you click the report button on something not needed then you make it so that it only takes one more person to click it to cause more congestion.

We have no place for those without any feeling of social responsibility here. Seriously, when you hit that little red button, not anywhere on the site is the name or IP of the person who hit that button logged.
Ok.Awesome..I guess I don't take this whole thing as seriously as you guys lol..Like I said when I first posted, I don't feel the need to get my panties in a bunch about whatever someone else has written.

Also "social responsibility". lol thats a good one. The internet is about as anti-social as it gets.

That been the case - how do they stop people going through reporting every single post no matter the content? I'd assume that the mods (or at least *someone* higher up) must be able to see who reports who. Or is there a limit to the amount of reports I can make in a given amount of time?

Incidentally I've never reported anyone, but thats largely because I only post sporadically (and then only really in teh community forum), I avoid most debates, and I don't mind the odd "this" post cropping up.

The Mods don't know who gets reported by who, they have a list called the Mod Que. If a post is reported 2 or more times the post gets put on that list and prioritised based on the number of reports. If someone goes and reports ever post he sees, it's only gonna get on the list if another person reports the same stuff. Like Furburt said, (it was furburt, right?) if it gets reported 1 time, it doesn't mean it's offensive, but if it happens more than that it's worth taking a look at.
Sooo... what *is* stopping me from reporting every single post in this thread and flooding the queue? I guess I could even make a second account and report them all twice so they get flagged as offensive.

I report often, but only because there are a lot more low content and offensive posts recently.

I have once, usually I ignore[footnote] or very rarely taunt-if I'm feeling playful [/footnote] the trolls and uneducated fools who would otherwise tick me off, tho.

I already have to deal with idiots in real life, I don't really care to acknowledge the online idiots, too.
