I'm actually surprised at how specific this thing can be. I've found that I can't actually shake it and have it work. I've had to tap it against, my leg/hand/table to the rhythm of walking to get it to actually count the steps though. I'm not to concerned though because with a combination of this and actually walking I managed to rack up over 7000 steps yesterday.

This, it takes a fairly solid thump too. Though I have noticed, it tends to count12-13 steps for every 1 I've been taking so hey.

Edit: Heh apparently the unlocks are tied to the save file rather then the pokewalker. One more level of suck if your save gets corrupted.

Hang it on a grandfather clock or something. Get something that swings non-stop and hang it to that.

I had something similar as a kid. I didn't know you were supposed to actually walk, so I spent hours and hours shaking the damn thing. By hand. Seriously.
Most men have something like that.
That caught me off guard and made me laugh quite a bit haha.

Yeah who walked around with that pokemon pikachu as a kid? Ya just shake it or throw it down the stairs!

OT: Looking forward to the game, had the original stolen from me before I got to the 2nd gym leader so hell yes I'm catchin' me some Pokemanz if not for nostalgia purposes.

ways to circumvent the pokewalker

step 1: find something that vibrates

step 2: tie pokewalker to said vibrating object.

step 3: turn on said object

step 4: go play something else while your miles accrue.

Does pedometer mean something different in pokemon culture or what? because I'm getting a very different image here.
ped - feet + o - connecting vowel + meter - measure = a device to measure steps taken.

It also looks like a homonym for a device which detects those who love children but that is only because Latinizing Greek ruins a lot of nuances in spelling.

From what I read they tried to make sure the device was at least marginally difficult to fool. I'm looking forward to taking the thing when I jog in the mornings. Not to mention all the incidental steps at school and work.

Normally I'm all for the correct use of the English language but damn some consideration should be taken into account for that name.

Please let me not be the only one who thought of this:
"But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more"

And people say that we don't design games for ladies as well! :D

I agree on the "elaborate Pokéwalker-cheating contraptions on YouTube in the near future".
It'll happen.
Yeah the elaborate device called shaking the thing.

ehe ehe ehe.

Also, if it hasn't already been mentioned, attaching it to the wrist and moving one's hand up and down would also work...

Ninja'd me by 5 minutes. But yeah, those guys [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tM0sTNtWDiI] would unlock everything.

Actually, if we're gonna play word salad here, wouldn't a "pedometer" be a device for finding children? If you wanna find a "pedophile" wouldn't the proper device be a "pedophilemeter"?
But pedophile is properly spelled paedophile, so this debate is over!

"Pedophilometer" would be more likely I think (Greek stems almost always take 'o' as the connecting vowel) but yes, that would be more accurate.

The confusion comes from the use of 'pedo' to mean the same thing as 'pedophile'. Dromometer would eliminate that although it is less accurate. Hmm, now I may have to break out my LJS to find a suitable replacement...

Also, now that accursed song will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Argh.

That means it would take 200 days at an average of four miles per day to unlock everything.
I think this math is wrong... 200 days with 4 miles make only 800 miles.
How did it take 18 posts for someone to realise this?
Because math is lame?

But yeah...I think Home Depot is going to be very unhappy that people are going to be coming in asking to put these in their paint shakers.
