Nope, just that there is some reason why Gollum could only be played by a Jewish actor, like you asserted in the first place.JDKJ said:So you're requiring proof beyond all reasonable doubt and question?
Reductio ad absurdumLike were in murder trial?
What you provided was scholarly research suggesting that Tolkien's inspiration for the name was there. At least I provided you substantiation of the fact that there's scholarly research suggesting that Tolkien's inspiration for Gollum was Golem.
Oh, you'd like evidence? Well, it's never mentioned, it's never hinted at, Smeagol's ancestry is from the same area as Middle Earth - which was based around Europe, Golem's are tall, stoic creatures made of clay that carry the words in their head - can't speak - and have carvings on their head that can be removed to render them immobile; Gollum, on the other hand, is a short, thieving, murdering creature that lives in the dark, feeds itself on fish, can't stop chattering to itself and used to carry one of the great gifts of the evil god. What have you provided in support of your contrary position? A whole lotta nothing, best as I can tell.
That and the fact that Gollum was originally called Glip; and not Goldburg, or some of the more usual Jewish names.
Just a thought for you to be going on with. Trying to find evidence that the Pope and Sandi Toksvig aren't related would be equally difficult because most people would accept that that was crazy just by the sound of it. You wouldn't really have to have a whole lot of evidence to prove that.
