Yeah. I for one make sure the second a windows update is released I go and download it IMMEDIATELY. I HATE having to click confirm, which is why I love it when refusing to update makes the same goddamned message pop up every thirty seconds until the crack of doom (or until you shut off autoupdate) I mean SURE, downloading updates without finding out what they do first has bricked my computer over and over and over and over and over for DECADES, but hey, I'm sure blizzard knows what it's doing. 'cuse the important thing is making money. Screw the consumers!

As far as piracy goes, stuff like this will *not* put a stop to it. It will only serve to bother players who pay for the game.
I'll go one farther: stuff like this will cause it.

The thing is, he's right. If you've got a big enough marketing budget people will buy anything from you. Diablo 3 will be a success and it looks as if a lot of developers will be following in their footsteps. I will not be purchasing Diablo 3 and I will attempt to encourage as many gamers as I can to not spend their money on this piece of crap.

I didn't buy Left 4 Dead 2, MW2 and I won't be buying this.

Rather simple, I stick to what I say. I don't have an alway on connection, and the few that do in South Africa have terrible speeds and tiny download caps.

This changes absolutely nothing for me, well, back to checking the inbox for a beta invite.

Oh, if you want to complain, go complain to your shoddy internet provider.
ISPs only listen to the head of state. They never listen to consumers.
Well, you could always vote with your wallet, oh wait, you couldn't get online then, aaawwww!
and you'd possibly be in breach of contract, slammed with bills, legal fees and take massive credit history damage....not to mention possibly having to go without a landline too, the hassle of having to update folks on your new contact info, maybe take that hit at work because your now less contactable/able to work from home/less communicative at all hours.

other than that though, good point.

I'm suddenly remembering something horrible but hilarious that happened with one of the Eve-online updates...god if that had been an auto-update....brrr :(

. I'm all for that. If we could force people to always be connected when you play the game, and then have that be acceptable, awesome."
If we could force people... Hold up, i play what i want, when i want because i WANT to, not because i am forced to. They are a games publisher not a bloody government it isn't upto them to force anything on anyone and the for them to think that worries me.
Im not even bothered about the need of an internet connection so much as i dont want to have to be logged in to something to play single player. Call that a stupid reason, but how long before every game does this?

Fail Troll is Fail.
It's more of a comment on the nature of boycott. I see people taking a moral and ethical high ground on this thing because it's easy, you don't have to buy it, but you'll get to torrent it eventually and basically lose nothing.

On the other hand, when you ask those same people why don't they vote with their wallet when it comes to their shitty internet, they just shrug and say they can't do anything anyway. Why, because if they refuse to pay for poor internet service, they would actually have to sacrifice internet access, and who would really want to do that?

Bweh. I find the biggest advocates against "online only" that shout they won't ever play the game for that reason, will be the players picking the game up on release date.

Kinda reminds me of that "boycot MW2 because there are no dedicated servers! steam group" screenshot with everyone in it playing MW2..
Except I passed on C&C4 and Silent Hunter 5 for the exact same reason. SO while I was looking forward to this game, the always-on DRM will keep me from playing it. Now if they were to patch in offline single player in the future, then I'd pick it up.

'FORCE' people to love it? No! Fuck you! That's abusive thinking right there!

Have they learned nothing from the disaster that was Assassins Creed 2? Assuming that peoples internet connections will allow this sort of thing is ridiculous, and will cost them dearly.

Remember a few years back, when MS shut down all the Halo 2 servers? There was a news piece here about it, IIRC.

Now, imagine that those servers were REQUIRED TO PLAY THE GAME, EVEN IN SINGLE PLAYER.

Also, on top of that, internet outages DO happen, and they are frequently the times I MOST want to play a good SP game, because I can't just surf the web. In short, always on DRM can suck my farts and die.

Hehe, the reason I passed on both of those is because they were utter garbage.

Silent Hunter 3 is still the best!

I dont see a problem with it.
Nor do i see a problem with the cash auction house in game.

Both are problems on the players end. If you cant have a stable internet connection, dont buy the game. Then you arnt paying 60$ for something. And if you dont like people being able to buy power, dont play PvP. Or play with a group of people who also refuse to use it.

I think DRM is smart. It stops pirating. And while im not 100% against pirates ((those who use it for legitimate reasons, such as downloading a game you cannot purchase, or just to try out the game)), there are to many pirates out there downloading for the wrong reasons.

I seriously need to come find where all you people are living where you have such internet problems in 2011. I've been dropped from a Starcraft match once I think because a storm took out my internet.
I'm on the Chicago Grid. The joke is, and always has been that you have to pay extra to get the 'S' in 'ISP'. Some neighborhoods and suburbs just get shitty service due to the near-constantly morphing nature of ISP ownership.

Among my region, the original Cable provider was Time-Warner Cable (towards the end of the AOL-era). Then it became Insight Digital. Then it became Comcast. Now it's Frontier.
All of that in the span of about 8 years.
So, wanting to get off the Merry-go-round of cable, I went to DSL; which sucks, but it's a kind of suck that doesn't cost 100+ a month.

Doesn't matter either way; I'm done with all these games moving into unilateral contracts, and welcome the opportunity to more closely focus on my work.

Why not go over classic games? Personally this year I didn't find a single game that interest me, so I went over Might and Magic and Chrono Trigger - awesome ride.

Anyway, there will always be companies that fight this sort fo behavior (CDProject Red comes to mind).

If this is the future, Onlive's not looking bad.
Ok, forgive me, but wtf? You're upset about a game that charges you once to play and then requires a constant internet connection. Given that, you are lauding a company that charges you once to buy a game then requires a constant internet connection? I don't get it.
The difference is 60 bucks to "own" the game vs 10 bucks a month.

It totally depends on how they do it. If it is the "you get kicked the instant your internet goes fucko" then no, its a piss poor design. If it waits for you for a minute and possibly lets you rejoin the server if you can get back in a reasonable amount of time, then sure.

Even when I played Diablo 2 solo, I played online. My reason for doing this was simple: If I wanted to play with other people, I didn't want to start over.

Adding DRM to the mix does not change how I play, but the lack of choice just gives me indigestion.
