If you could pick ONE game from your past to remake, what would you choose?

Man... such a tough question. Deus Ex could reeeaaally do with the graphical reboot. I'd LOVE a remake of Final Fantasy 7... imagine how absolutely epic that could be... oh my god. The thing is I'd probably give my right kidney for a remake (specifically JUST the graphical reboot) of either of the first two Tomb Raider games... I know they remade the first game for tomb raider anniversary and I really liked it but they also updated the gameplay and changed certain things... I want the exact same gameplay but with just better graphics.

So yeah... my answer is going to be Tomb Raider 1.

Oooh... several things to add I do

First, congratulations for taking 41 posts before Final Fantasy VII was suggested. I love that game (and would like seeing it all dolled up) but I was worried I was going to see way more posts about that than it deserved.

For those talking about Jet Set Radio Future needing a remake, I am sad. I think that the reason for no more Jet Set was that I thought it was weaker than the first game on Dreamcast.

As for me, I would have to say that I can't decide between 3 games:
Contra from the NES
NHL Hitz 2003
and
Final Fantasy VI

I know, we're getting a prequel - a prequel published by Square Enix without the work or input of a single member of the original creative team (and designed by French-Canadians of all people).
Wow. Just wow. I'd call you out on stupid rascism but I don't have that much time on my hands.

I would like to point out however that Between EA, Ubisoft, Bioware, Eidos, A2M, Gameloft and about 20 smaller companies the French Canadians amde some of the best games this past decade. Splinter Cell series, Assassin's Creed series, Rainbow 6 series, couple of SSX games, Prince of Persia, some NHL games, Mass Effect (although done mainly by Bioware Edmonton) to name but a few.

(1)Hey, Firstly I had a brief look via the search bar and didn't find a thread similar to this thread, at least not from the recent past anyway.

(2)So If you had the choice of a game remade with today's polish and graphics but EXACTLY the same game play, what would you choose?

Personally I would choose GTA San Andreas as that game in my humble opinion had very very few flaws game play wise, if they remade that with today's graphics I'd pay full price for sure.
(1) Thanks for doing that. More people, emulate this guy! I'm so tired of seeing the exact same thread with slightly rearranged words for two weeks in a row.

(2) I was going to say either Megaman 2 or Megaman X, until I read the full content of the OP. So I'd have to say Ocarina of...what?

***Murmurs, whispers***

...never mind.

/signed for Arcanum and X-Com

But what I'd love to see:

Evil Genius

with random island maps, more varied base items/tech, actually participating in missions maybe...

Legend of Dragoon. PS1 four disc RPG epic with a creative take on the JRPG turn based combat system that Final Fantasy standardized that kept me interested and entertained the entire game... including the hours upon hours of grinding I put into every RPG. Masterful game.

Was mentioned already, but 100% Deus Ex. There is no game I'd rather replay in current gen tech than that. its been over a decade, and no game has surpassed it yet in terms of depth and variety.

Crap, this thread is too limiting... There are so many games from my past that need a facelift without altering the gameplay.

The problem is that once you get back to the NES/Atari 2600 days the core gameplay will fundamentally change with a simple graphical overhaul, or a simple graphic update will highlight how simple the gameplay was. I'm don't think that Pong, Donkey Kong, or Pac-Man would be better games if they only had better graphics.

I will choose M.U.L.E. (Multi-Use Labor Element) to be redone. This game was simple, fun and educational (it's still one of the best lessons on supply-side economics that Ive ever experienced).

But I'd also like to see a rerelease of Earthbound, X-Com, Wing Commander, TIE Fighter/X-Wing series, Double Dragon, Final Fantasy 3 (VI), and the Adventures of Lolo.

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines
A game with beautifull environments, a killer story and solid characters.
Its problems were a poorly used engine, loads of bugs and iffy gameplay
if this game came out tomorrow with current gen polish it would be the rpg of the year

Many people have probably said this already, but I would have to say Legend of Dragoon, it's my all time favourite JRPG.

Off topic: Has any one noticed that spell check doesn't recognize the Canadian/British spelling of favourite? (Favorite to you Americans, see now that's just weird.)

Yeah, I am tempted to go for San Andreas too, tho with controls a bit more on the Red Dead side of 3rd person shooters, other than GTA4's slow and clunky version.
I know GTA4 was just a prototype, which is exactly why I'd want RDR's shooting.

Other than that tho, I'd personally want either GTA: Vice City or War of the Monsters to be remade. If I had to choose, it's probably be War of the Monsters, since another GTA is as inevitable as the damn tides. WotM was deeply unique at the time, both in gameplay and setting, and the characters were designed on such a fundamentally good level that I can remember each of them and all of their alt. costumes off by heart even to this day.

Resident Evil 2 because it's one of my all time favourite video games, and I think it was a perfect example of just how well a Survival Horror game can incorporate action into a frightening, Urban setting. Oh, and let's not forgot Leon.
