... oh, where's your sense of pageantry?!

Probably true, though I don't know how pulse rifles are recharged, and while lasrifles can be recharged by sticking the mag in a fire, it degrades it and can cause it to explode. But, under the circumstances, with plenty of fires around (it's a zombie apocalypse after all) it's probably a good bet, and their cheap as hell, ain't they?

WRT small arms, I'd take the Avenger Shuriken Catapult (mono-molecular ammunition so light as hell) a few clips will last forever. In close combat, I'll have a Scorpion Chainsword plus Quin's Kiss... and I reckon I have the skill IRL to pull it off! =P
eldar weaponry is probably a good bet in terms of reliability and light ammo.
so my sense of pageantry just came back and i am going with a xv8 crisis suit(since my beloved tau don't have titans) with a flamer, burst cannon and fusion blaster. i can jump away and even if the zombies have tanks i can kick their ass.

i am not 100% sure about the pulse rifles but they have to be recharged quite frequently or at least the battery pack has to be replaced.in theory you also have to replace the storage compartment for the particles that are accelerated but this stops working long after the rifle deterioration far beyond being able to be used anyway.
wow, i really know more than is probably healthy about tau weapons.

Real Weapon Loadout:
My Dad's Taurus 9mm handgun.
My Dad's Badbutt 12 gauge shotgun. It has nice padding on the stock.
My Buddy's Bowie Knife

Fantasy ("Never Gonna Manage Getting These") Weapon Loadout:
Barret XM109 Anti-Material Rifle chambered with 25mm grenades.
Colt Python
Some manner of knife equipped with a chainsaw edge. (Think of the Ripper from the Fallout series)

A broadsword and a rifle. There's no real need to be fancy. if survival is key, then so is simplicity.

If I could choose anything, it would be this
Cause a red Star Destroyer is exactly what I want for christmas. And it belonged to a smuggler, which mean's it has all kinds of fun toys bolted on

Otherwise I'll just take an Infinite Bag of Holding and my New Vegas load out (Mercy, Annabelle, the Anti-Material rifle, 25mm grenade machine gun, a mini gun m, a light machine gun m, the .308 version of the marksman carbine, That Gun M, and T51b power armor with the Tesla Helmet

Ha, come on, at least you're not a Spehss Muhreen drone like a lot of other poor indoctrinated soulless... souls out there! I know more than I should about Harlequin Troupes... we are the last bastion against Slaanesh! Guard the Black Library to the last... actually, screw that, we're leaving!

Anyway, is that your normal load out for a Tau commander? Actually, that's one thing that's always bothered me about the Tau... the distinct lack of Inv saves.
