If freedom of speech was really the Monopoly "Get out of jail free" card of life, then slander, libel, copyright, and many many other laws wouldn't exist.
There seem to be many rules for that freedom. I'd rather not get into it at risk of starting an argument, but it's definitely flawed.

I have to admit that Jack did at least a " 50% right 50% wrong" on this.

The right thing to do- He recognized that he may be attacked. He decided to do something about it.

The wrong part is- He tends to do things with a very poor method.

As much as I harbor very negative feelings toward Thompson, I have to agree. That kind of behavior from gamers, while kind of funny to those of us who understand the whole situation, doesn't look good to people outside of gaming circles. Not helping.

Jack Thompson likening himself to Barrack Obama - what ever next?
"But unlike Obama, Jack Thompson does not have Secret Service to protect him"
Yes, because Obama has probally ordered them to shoot Jack on sight >.<
And also, there is a HUGE difference between discussing assassinating the president (Which if you do, you are a FUCKING RETARD. The same retard that complains about the big brother program, then goes online and jokes around a bit realistically about doing acts of terrorism) And punching a fucking fundamentalist moron in the face.

Oh and Jack, did you actually study to become a lawer, or forged your certificate? Because any lawer with half an ounce of study power would see that numerous suites against yahoo and google (Even pre google purchase) have all failed due to the fact the content owner is not responsible for what people upload or link to.

Freedom of speech doesn't cover threats of physical harm. No matter how obviously ludicrous. You can say that you hope he loses his job and call him an arrogent worthless windbag who has bad breath, but you can't say that you're going to pay $50 to anyone who punches him out, or that you're going hit him over the head with a well-made, and sturdy games console.

I hope Jack trawls the internet looking for an excuse to take people to court. If he comes across this forum by any chance, Jack, you're an unbelievable douche.

People have their right to their freedom of speech to insult you and make childish jokes, and you're just making yourself look more like a douche by reacting to them.

This is just a great way for him to increase groups like this. He's just making himself hated more and more (if that is, in fact, possible).

Uh oh, soon enough he'll sue The Escapist for having Thompson haters on it.
As much as i hate to admit it, You could be right.

The thing is, This guy seems...almost untouchable.

All i want to do is threaten physical violence against him, But that would make us look bad, But the important question is what can we do[/I]. He's been Disbarred, And then everything else is classed under "Human Rights"...If he is human (i think he's more slime really).

Dear Mummy,

Some people on the internet said bad things about me! Bawwwwww!

Signed, Jacky.
There are actually people on the internet who have killed themselves because of what others say, Jack just happens to be the one to sue people for saying mean words about him.

I'm still waiting for the point when someone actually does something like bludgeon him in the face then goes and says "videogames made me do it."

This is the first time I find something come out of Jack Thompson's mouth (make of that what you will)that's halfway credible. Of course the Facebook suit is ludicrous, but the $50 bounty does make you wonder if there should be some kind of punishment involved, like removing the group, post, or thread that said it. In my mind, that's the worst they could fairly do. I don't believe the users should be banned for only starting a thread.

So if they make a thread removal and an apology, the world goes on spinnin'.
