I hate to say it, but I agree with Jack this time around. That mod is so bad for the gaming community that it could potentially set us back years if the Supreme Court gets wind of it. The developers aren't even defending it in an artistic manner, their sole goal is make a game where you murder civilians in a hauntingly familiar fashion FUN. Even Uwe Boll made his killing spree film in an artistic manner that put us in the head of the shooter. Uwe fucking Boll.
Please, 98% of everything is shit. I bet there are horrible gore-fest movies out there that don't have any artistic ambitions either. At the end of this day this mod will get most of its attention for its shock value, not because of its actual gameplay or anything, and after the situation has calmed down, everyone will forget about it and pretend they save America from an Acceptable Target somewhere on this or another globe.
This is a different situation. They not only stated that they would be surprised if the California game bill didn't pass, they said they WANTED it to pass. That's not a joke or an exaggeration. Then they come out with this piece of garbage that does nothing but give people ammunition against us.
Just have to say, I agree with your stance on this. I'm always one for freedom in art forms, especially with games.
But honestly, I side with Jack on this one (not necessarily the way he goes about it) as this mod sounds like nothing more than a sick abomination that I can't imagine anybody WANTING to play, there is clearly a limit, you know? They have made no effort to explore themes or make something other than just for the sake of shock value and controversy.
Also, good example with the Boll thing, I've actually enjoyed some of his stuff and it usually has awesome mocking value even if it does crap all over the term "cinema".
