Thompson acknowledged to PCMag.com that he's not representing anyone as a lawyer, because he's not a lawyer anymore. "I am speaking on behalf of a number of people who believe that EA should not be selling such a game to minors, particularly one that allows one to play the role of the Taliban," he said. "Beyond that, I am not presently authorized to identify anyone. That may change in a day or two. I intend to stop the release of the game."
Your mom and invisible friend don't count.

Seriously, does he not understand that no one cares about him anymore?

I can't help but suspect that the game developers/publishers are actually paying Jack Thompson to do things like this so as to create publicity. I mean, why did he need to mention the release date? It seems pretty win/win as the games get publicity and so does Jack. He also never seems to achieve anything.
That actually makes sense... It's entirely possible.

I can imagine it now:

Ol' Jacky T is sitting in a fishing boat on some lake in the middle of nowhere. A chopper swoops out of the sky with the EA logo painted on its flank, and begins to hover in front of him. The door of the chopper flies open, a suit pops out - hanging onto his toupee so that it doesn't get sucked into the rotor, and says, "Mr. Thompson! We need you!"

Jacky T replies, "I'm retired."

"I can give you what you want -- no, what you need." The suit gestures inside of the helicoper to reveal a news crew, complete with a rookie cameraman.

Ol' Jack smiles, tosses his rod off the side of the boat, and hops aboard.
Wow I could actually picture that :p Nice work. Hey, if you write a story about him like that, he might just get the publicity he wants and then he'll leave us all alone =D
Thanks...

That's a good idea... I can imagine the book now. Full of double-dealings, lawyer-like intrigue, and peppered with torrid flings involving the soccer moms of the latest "video-game-related-massacre's" victims.

As a work of fiction, it would take the larger-than-life character of Jack Thompson, and make him even larger than that.

I'd really like to write it, too... If only I didn't have this blasted job sucking all of my energy away before I got home.

About the presales, When he says minors, does he mean people under 12? Because if so, id agree with him on that point and that point only. But i get the feeling he means people under 18. and thats just stupid.

Training? Realism? This is Medal of Honor, not ARMA, the only thing this would teach people is that camping is for noobs, and health regenerates in a few seconds. Fucking idiot.

Also, why the fuck is he sending this to the secretary of defense? Doesn't he have better things to do?
I think the secretary for the secretary for the Secretary of Defense looked at it, laughed, and threw it away, or will put it on his desk the morning of the 13th.

I have to wonder if EA didn't just bribe him to raise a ruckus about it, therefore increasing sales.

For the love of God, please stop giving this peanut brained jackass any more news time. Seriously, who gives a damn what some stupid ex-lawyer with an obvious mental illness (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder at the very least) has to say about anything. Stop giving him face time, the only reason he does this is for the attention.

"Training tool", hmm? I just came in here to voice my question: how the fuck Taliban are supposed to get their slimy hands on it?! Of course they won't buy a game for $60, especially a Western-made video game. And i'm not sure if they can even pirate it (OMG Taliban pirates videogames, run for your lives!), because most of them live in the caves! You know, the caves where there's NO INTERNET CONNECTION!!!

Nice try, Dr. Jackie, but this entire accusation is made of 100% pure, refined logical fallacies.

if I were ea I would issue a press release saying that "we have heard your crys and now we will replace the taliban in the multi player with other american troops and instead of recording kills it will record friendly fire incidents" see how that goes over
I just have to say... this is a genius idea. Or at least it would be if mass-media couldn't use this ironic retort out of context to villify games even further.

I say we give him an ak-47, and tell him to use it like a 360 controller, and see how far he gets through the obstacle course, really, just ignore his idiocy and move on.

I thought they proved that credit-cards were proper authentication as an age-gate, meaning that is not EA's responsibility if little Timmy steals Mummy's credit card and pre-orders the game?

I think it's probably more respectful to base the enemies off a real faction then create a "generic-istan" country full of turban wearing bearded AK-47 wielding men generated for the sole purpose of being killed.

The whole play as the Taliban thing really pisses me off. It's just a name and an image, that's all. Who give a shit? I certainly don't.
